Based on a beloved manga of the same name, The Case Study of Vanitas follows Noe, a young vampire, and Vanitas, an overpowered human, as they grudgingly team up to rescue vampires from the corruption of their true name, while investigating disturbing mysteries in the vampire world.

To complicate matters, the enigmatic Vanitas makes life difficult for Noe, who, however, can't help being intrigued by his new companion. But as the two embark on occasionally hilarious adventures, there's still a shadow looming over their partnership. Noe, who narrates his story from a later time, reveals that he killed Vanitas at the end of their joint journey.

Episode 13 starts by reintroducing Noe and Vanitas' new mission; to investigate the Beast of Gedauvan. In the 18th century, the Beast was responsible for the deaths of at least one hundred people and has now been spotted again.

True to his overly excitable personality, Noe is ridiculously giddy about the trip, while Vanitas is his usual grumpy self, reinforcing the dynamic we know and love. All fun stops, however, when the Noe, Vanitas, their companions, and the local soldiers, encounter the Beast in the flesh. Vanitas surmises the Beast is part of a complicated malnomen curse, which includes the manipulation of time - given that the monster has only recently resurfaced.

Amidst the chaos, Noe loses Vanitas and bumps into Astolfo, a young paladin with very strong opinions against vampires. Thinking that he can befriend him, as he did with Roland, Noe gets very much beaten up, as the young man is much harsher.

Jeanne, who failed to slay the Beast years ago, arrives at the scene unexpectedly and attempts to finish the business despite Vanitas and Noe's protest that the vampire whose name has been corrupted might still be saved.

Of course, it would all be resolved a little too easily if Jeanne succeeded in her task, so she had to be interrupted - and how! The Charlatan and his troupe arrive and taunt everyone once more. Even the famed book of Vanitas fails to save the day, and our main characters find themselves incapacitated. The episode ends on an enigmatic note, with a young man and woman we've yet to properly meet, finding the book and taking it with them.

The premiere was a feast of colors and stunning visuals. As always, everything that happened looked prettier than any vampire fight has the right to, and I didn't know that I'd missed the banter between Vanitas and Noe until I had more of it! The new cour promises to maintain a high quality and we're excited for more!

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 14 is going to air next Saturday, the 22nd of January 2022, in Japan. Those in Europe, Canada, and the US will be able to watch it from Wednesday, January 21.

Episode 14 is titled "The Witch and the Young Man," so it will likely introduce the two characters we glimpse at the end of episode 13.

We expect The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 14 to come out on Saturday the 22th of January at midnight in Japan. If this timeline remains correct, here's how it translates in different time zones:

Case Study of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 13-14

How would you rate episode 13 of the case study of vanitas (tv 2) community score: 4.4, how would you rate episode 14 of the case study of vanitas (tv 2) community score: 4.4.

Who was the Beast of Gévaudan? No one really knows the answer. Historical records claim that between 1764 and 1767, some sort of dog-like beast killed a large number of people in Gévaudan, France, and that King Louis XV did in fact send musketeers to hunt it down, including the one specifically named in episode 13. Because the 1760s relatively far removed from the werewolf panics of the Middle Ages, no one really questioned the Beast as being anything but a regular killer dog/wolf/hyena.

But this is The Case Study of Vanitas , so we can hardly expect it to be just a regular old canine with a taste for human flesh, can we? Especially not if Vanitas and Noé have left Paris to investigate its apparent return in the 1890s. That doesn't mean that we should have expected them to be whisked back through time to the 1760s, of course, but here we are.

As a fan of time travel stories, I think it's a very nice touch, and it certainly blurs a few more lines between what is real and what is not—are they still in the 1760s in episode 14, for example? It seems likely, since Chloé, the cursed vampire who becomes the Beast, is still able to retain her human form, but there's a lot we still don't know about the vampire aging process, cursed or otherwise. And Chloé is very, very old; Jeanne met her when she was a child, but even then the other woman was older than Ruthven even if she looked about fifteen. Her depredations as the Beast in the 1760s may have been because she couldn't control herself, but as we see with her attack on Noé this week, it's possible that she simply no longer wanted to control herself. She absolutely knows that it's wrong of her to drink Noé's blood without his consent; she just doesn't give a damn. In fact, she has to be physically removed by Jean-Jacques to stop her, indicating that if he hadn't come in, she would have kept right on assaulting Noé. She's as much a beast in human form as in animal shape.

Episode 14 is actually quite the episode for not-entirely-consensual acts upon our heroes. Noé's attacked in his sleep, and Vanitas is also treated to some forced proximity and kisses courtesy of Jeanne. The latter is arguably much less of an issue, because Jeanne is trying to save his life by getting him out of his wet, cold clothes and keeping him hydrated by kissing water down his throat, but it's also hard to say that Vanitas is in a good state of mind; in fact, he's very standoffish with Jeanne. He could be trying to be a gentleman, but I think the bigger issue is that he's feverish, poisoned, and emotionally distraught by the loss of his book. (And Noé. Probably.) He's just not in the headspace for Jeanne to suggest they lay down on the bed like some terrible blanket fic from the early 2000s, something she does realize in the light of day. But he also needs to stay alive, so this is a much trickier area, especially if we consider 19th-century medical knowledge.

What's perhaps more to the point is that Vanitas has been robbed of his book, something so important that he literally kept it chained to his body. While Astolfo bears the brunt of the guilt for the book's vanishing, what's more worrisome is that Chloé now has it. We don't understand what's going on with her enough yet to know how she could use it to her benefit, but I somehow doubt that she wants to destroy her Malnomen. It seems more likely that she'd use the book to enhance her beastly powers, and I'm not sure that Noé alone could stop her—or that Jean-Jacques would . If she's the big bad wolf, Noé is definitely Little Red Riding Hood, which also fits her attack on him; some scholars believe the tale is a metaphor for sexual assault and one early French variant even makes it clear that the wolf is, in fact, a werewolf.

Noé is in danger. Vanitas is not in his right mind. Dante has been withholding information, Astolfo is still out there, and everyone may still be stuck in the 1760s. (And if Jean-Jacques turns out to be Jean-Jacques Rousseau, I'm going to scream.) It's an eventful start to the second half of the story, so grab your wolf repellant and hang on.

Oh where to begin. My simple review is: It was made for people who haven't read the manga. The story was lacking. In the best way, it was too soft. Vanitas' issues were downplayed. Especially during the ball and he was reduced to "Silly looking Vani wants to play doctor." It's supposed to be bread crumbs. A slow fall. Important things were dropped. Things in the catacombs were dropped. Foreshadowing is a key player here. Animation was good. It kept the pretty boy style and didn't rob Jeanne of her shape. I really have nothing to say about sound. Characters, characters, characters. Yes I love the characters but not as much here. Vanitas went from angry at him self to sad boi. Domi had more to her character. Her obsession with Jeanne was not simply to dance and make Noe upset. Olivier... I won't start on him. Characters had corners chisseled off. They were ironed out. They were watered down. It's disappointing. What saves this and gives it a better review? Animation and sound. But a note to everyone getting upset about the ending being given away in the beginning: It's a history. That's why episodes and chapters are called memiors. Adding on as RIPAnime suggests: I find the characters watered down because there wasn't enough time to explain the issues they have. Parts that could help were skipped. Vanitas has issues with his past and he has those issues today. Dominique isn't upset simply because of Noe not returning her feelings. She likes and cares for Jeanne genuinely, but the affection isn't there enough. Character development does happen later, but it seems like it will be harder without these starting pieces. While we don't get to the bottom of their past at the beginning, we haven't gotten far from the surface when we should be digging a hole.

Vampires in Paris, The City of Flowers, beware, something evil lurks, hunting for your true name. Child or elder, it matters not. Parade of Charlatan will twist you, make you a monster. You're own family will be your feast.   Your only salvation is the infamous clockwork grimoire, The Book of Vanitas or death. Noé Archiviste searches for the book, only to have it come to him via a charismatic, unhinged young man calling himself Vanitas, a vampire doctor. Whitty, bloody, and sexy (but not ecchi); it's quite the fun ride. As the series progresses we learn more about the characters' dark, blood splattered pasts all with beautiful art and comedy mixed in.  If you like this series, I recommend reading the manga of the same title to get deeper into these characters. The anime is nearly all canon, but there are a few things that are glossed over.   I rate it 16+. A child is beheaded right in front of their friend. Lots of blood and thoughts of suicide.

The Case Study of Vanitas

There once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a blue full moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the "Book of Vanitas," a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes at least. Vanitas no Carte follows Noé, a young man travelling aboard an airship in 19th century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas. A sudden vampire attack leads him to meet the enigmatic Vanitas, a doctor who specializes in vampires and, much to Noé's surprise, a completely ordinary human. The mysterious doctor has inherited both the name and the infamous text from the Vanitas of legend, using the grimoire to heal his patients. In nineteenth-century France, humans and vampires coexist. The young vampire Noé is traveling to Paris in search of The Book of Vanitas, which is said to be capable of unleashing a curse upon all vampires. On an airship, he finds himself embroiled in a strange incident. It is Vanitas, a human calling himself a vampire expert, who appears before Noé in the ensuing chaos. In Vanitas’s hands is the very book that Noé has been searching for: The Book of Vanitas… Following this encounter, the curtain is set to rise on this tale of vampires, curses, and salvation…
