The application for a WKU on-campus apartment is a separate application from applying for a residence hall room. If you are a current on-campus resident and are planning on living on campus during the upcoming academic year, regardless of WKU apartment application status, please ensure that you also re-apply for on-campus housing in February/March during housing renewal.

Once you access the WKU Housing Portal through my.wku.edu , select " Apply for Apartments " from the top navigation bar.

Select the appropriate term dates and choose " Apply ." Follow the prompts.

Applications will be given priority based on the date received .

Offers for apartments are made by email. Correspondence will be sent to the student's WKU email address. Applicants are to respond through their WKU email.

To accept an offer, the applicant must respond to [email protected] by date stated in offer and without delay.  The appropriate leasing personnel must receive the required documents and monetary consideration as stated in the offer, or the offer will be considered void.

A one-time $75 application fee is required upon acceptance of an offered apartment to any resident new to WKU Housing. If you currently live on campus, your previously paid application fee is already on file. 

** Students with a past due account at WKU at the time of leasing will not be offered an apartment. Bills must be paid in full before an apartment can be offered. Contact the Office of Student Billing & Account Services  at (270)745-6381 if you have questions about your bill. 

  Students will sign an individual lease upon receiving notification via email that their application has been received, an apartment is being offered to them, and the $75 application fee has been received to hold the apartment. 

After the apartments are full, the remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list that is active for the semester.

The waiting list does not roll over each semester ; students must apply each term to be eligible to live in the apartments. 

Changing Accommodation Preferences

After submitting an initial application, some applicants may consider changing their accommodation preferences. If you would like to request a change, please send an email to  [email protected] .

Many properties are accessible for students with disabilities. If you have special needs because of a disability, you must note this on your application. The Student Accessibility Resource Center can help you with more information and resources.

Temporary flex housing faq, what is temporary flex housing.

Temporary flex housing guarantees a permanent housing assignment for the fall. However due to high demand, you have been assigned a temporary space until your permanent housing becomes available.

Where is temporary flex housing?

Temporary flex housing is a placeholder status while we wait for your permanent fall assignment with Boise State Housing. This assignment is not location specific. Our team will be working diligently to get you placed in your fall assignment.

How long will I stay in temporary flex housing?

We expect students with temporary housing to have a permanent assignment before Move-In Day.

I applied within the lottery window, why was I placed in temporary flex housing?

You have been placed in temporary flex housing due to high demand for on-campus housing. Temporary flex housing guarantees a permanent housing assignment for the fall. Using the lottery results, we have placed a select number of students in temporary flex housing.

Will I be charged differently for temporary flex housing?

Housing charges will not be applied to your account until you have been placed in your permanent housing assignment for the academic year. If you need to estimate what your costs will look like next year financial aid purposes, we recommend using the university’s Bottom Line Estimator . We recommend using your application community preferences to get a sense of your estimate.

Will I be able to match with roommates in temporary flex housing?

Students assigned to temporary flex housing do not participate in roommate matching. When your permanent assignment is official, you will be able to message roommates through the Housing Portal and get to know them through their Roommate Profile. To help you get connected to campus, take a look at our various Student Life groups !

Can I request specific accommodations while in temporary flex housing?

If you need a specific accommodation while living on-campus, you can request it through the Educational Access Center . Availability will dictate our ability to make housing accommodations.

How will I be informed when my permanent fall housing assignment is available?

You will receive an email to your BroncoMail notifying you of your permanent assignment. Your assignment will also be visible in your Housing Portal .

Can I make arrangements for moving into my permanent fall housing assignment while in temporary flex housing?

Yes, you can start preparing for your transition to your permanent fall housing assignment while in temporary flex housing. During the summer, we will send you a packing list so you can start preparing for move-in.

What should I do if I have concerns or questions about being in temporary flex housing?

Nearly 500 Texas prison inmates suffer from flawed punitive housing system, lawsuit says

Criminal justice advocates want nearly 500 Texas inmates certified in a class action lawsuit against the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, alleging the state’s prison system is assigning inmates to punitive, unsanitary housing for longer than allowed.

In a petition Monday, the Texas Civil Rights Project alleged the state's prison system keeps inmates in higher-security housing units for much longer than the 10 year-expiration date while some live in unsanitary conditions that include flooding with raw sewage, pest infestations and other health and safety risks. Others remain in their cells anywhere from 20-24 hours a day, the lawsuit said.

The group accused TDCJ of assigning the housing in a “rote, automatic process,” not notifying some inmates when they’ve been reassigned to higher security housing or not allowing them access to the proper appeal process, in violation of their constitutional due process rights.

“There's just no meaningful review of these codes," said Randy Hiroshige, a TCRP staff attorney on the case. "It seems like TDCJ is just like, 'let's place it, and now you're stuck with it,' and then these people just get pushed to the margins and placed in punitive custody."

TDCJ assigns inmates with a history of certain security incidents with Security Precaution Designators or codes. This requires incarcerated people to reside in high security wings, with administrative segregation or solitary confinement being the most restrictive. These include codes for previous attempts to escape custody (ES), one for a history of taking individuals hostage (HS) and one for a history of seriously assaulting staff (SA).

TDCJ rules state if 10 years have passed, an “offender is no longer considered an immediate security risk” and the corresponding code can be removed from their record unless “extraordinary circumstances exist.” But TCRP alleged nearly a third of inmates with ES, HS or SA codes have been assigned those codes for more than 10 years, some without proper review for removal.

The federal suit originated in 2021 with plaintiffs including Curtis Allen Gambill representing themselves. Gambill escaped from a county jail in 2002, was retroactively assigned a code and put in solitary confinement.

After later being confirmed as a gang member, he was to remain in solitary confinement indefinitely without a chance to renounce his gang affiliation through a mandatory TDCJ program that would let him to do so. Because of that, the suit says, he spent 14 years in solitary confinement and 22 years total with a code on his record.

Other plaintiffs include a man who was allegedly told by a warden he’d “never get an SPD removal” and another who’s had his code for 17 years and allegedly hasn’t been able to access the programs necessary to allow him parole.

The state argued the plaintiffs fail to prove the SPD code system goes to the extent of violating inmates’ rights under the Constitution. A TDCJ spokesperson said in an email to KERA News the agency does not comment on pending litigation.

Hiroshige said TCRP believes strongly in its class action motion.

"The more we've learned about TDCJ, the more we've learned that its abuses of the system are pretty uniform across across every unit," he said.

The two apartment buildings are located on Kentucky Street next to the Alumni Square Garage, and are owned and operated by the WKU Department of Housing & Residence Life .
