Verizon business phone plans: What are they and are they worth it?

If you're on the search for Verizon business phone plans, here's a look at what the carrier offers

Verizon business phone plans

When it comes to business phone plans, Verizon stands out as one of the best options around. Filled with features, backed by some excellent coverage and heavy on the discounts for added lines, there's a lot to like about what Verizon has to offer.

As with standard Verizon phone plans , the best Verizon business phone plans won't be the cheapest option. But if you're looking to stack up on lines, you could end up with some pretty affordable prices for your business.

  • Compare the best cheap cell phone plans
  • What is 5G ? The definitive guide to the 5G network rollout
  • Best prepaid phone plans

Verizon keeps things simple, offering just three cell phone plans in its business section. All three options offer unlimited data, calls and texts; the more you pay, the more features that get chucked in.

These extras include security features, mobile hotspots, more advanced 5G and priority data. Verizon also offers business phone deals and 5G internet service. In some cases, Verizon business phone plans can also get you discounts on tablets and phones when you sign up for different plans.

What Verizon business phone plans are available?

The choice in Verizon business phone plans is pretty simple: You can choose between three options, all with unlimited data — Unlimited Start, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Pro. You can stack the plans up for added discounts with the price falling by $5 per line the more you add.

Image

Verizon Business Unlimited Start Verizon's cheapest business plan, the Unlimited Start offer, features unlimited calls, texts and data with 5G nationwide and 4G LTE. While you do get unlimited calls, texts and data, the plan is otherwise pretty limited. A Call Filter is included for screening potential spam), but you won't get mobile hotspot data or access to Verizon's faster Ultra Wideband 5G network.

Verizon Business Unlimited Plus Jumping up in cost, the Unlimited Plus plan sits in the middle of the Verizon business phone plan offerings, blending features and affordability. You'll get the same basics as the above plan — unlimited calls, texts and data — but you'll also get 60GB of premium network access, giving you priority when there is congestion. You'll also get a unlimited mobile hotspot, access to Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband and, enhanced security features with Verizon's Business Mobile Secure .

Verizon Business Unlimited Pro

Verizon Business Unlimited Pro Finally, Verizon's most expensive business plan — the Unlimited Pro. This plan, just like the two above, includes unlimited calls, texts and data, but it brings your premium data up to 120GB. Other than that, this is almost identical to the Plus plan above with the only other difference being that you can also get 50% off Business Unlimited Pro Tablet plans.

Why choose Verizon?

Verizon business phone plans

As the biggest carrier in the U.S., Verizon has the infrastructure, speeds and connections to offer impressive wireless performance. It takes the number 2 spot in our best phone carriers guide and for good reason.

While Verizon has some pretty pricey plans, that's in part because Verizon offerings tend to be packed full of features across all of its plans, including its business options.

Through our tests, Verizon has come out on top for LTE speeds and its Ultra Wideband 5G connections reach more than 80 cities, capable of reaching 1 Gbps download speeds. Verizon's nationwide 5G network isn't that fast, but it does bring coverage to 230 million people.

Among the features included with Verizon business phone plans are Call Filters, enhanced security features and the possibility of additional plans for devices and internet service.

Which other carriers offer business plans?

While Verizon does have some of the best business plans around, it isn't the only provider catering to businesses. The other two major wireless services and many MVNOs offer business plans in some form, some focusing on affordability and others on features.

Like Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile put their priority on feature-filled business plans...at a high cost. With unlimited data, add-ons and a host of features around data prioritization, these are the options if you've got a bit more budget in your business.

Alternatively, if you're looking for something more affordable, a number of MVNOs offer plans that will work well for a business. Mint Mobile for example is one of the cheapest providers in the US and while it doesn't offer specific business discounts, it will likely be the cheapest option for smaller businesses; just don't expect discounts on multiple lines like you'd find with Verizon business phone plans.

Our Verdict

Verizon Wireless’ Business Unlimited is so named because there are no limits on plans featuring talk, text and data. Companies get 5G or 4G quality data transmission (LTE) where available. Verizon provides customers with mobile hotspot data and a call filter spam blocker. In addition to phone service, customers can purchase compatible devices or switch and bring their phones and preexisting numbers.

  • Unlimited talk, text and data plans
  • Data for mobile hotspot
  • Call filter that blocks spam
  • Price discount if you sign up for autopay
  • Somewhat expensive
  • Not as many communication options as alternatives
  • Must upgrade for better quality streaming

Verizon Wireless’ business phone service provides extensive phone service to customers nationwide thanks to the advanced quality of its 4G and 5G networks. It is one of the premier telecommunications providers in the industry, having won numerous awards, including 31 consecutive wins for network quality from J.D. Power.

In addition to calling and texting, Verizon Wireless lets you create a hotspot using high-speed data, ensuring you and others can connect to the internet even with poor Wi-Fi.

Despite Verizon’s widespread popularity and reliability, its business phone system will not be the best fit for every company.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited Is Best For:

  • Strictly voice communication: Unlike many VoIP services providing voice, chat, video conferencing and internet fax capabilities as part of an all-in-one platform, Verizon Wireless’ business phone system is best suited for those who anticipate only needing reliable calling and texting capabilities.
  • Reliable phone service: Because Verizon has such a wide range of coverage across North America, it is ideal for ensuring you are always reachable and that you can easily make and receive calls.
  • Mobile hotspots: The ability to turn your phone into a hotspot ensures that you and others can remain online during a Wi-Fi outage.
  • Avoiding spam calls: Thanks to the call filtering feature, you can better conduct business and answer important calls without worrying about constant spam or robocalls and scam attempts.

Verizon Wireless’ mobile hotspot is a welcome feature for those who want to ensure constant internet connection for other devices or their co-workers. Still, at a time when rival communication services routinely offer multiple streams of collaboration at far lower prices, it may appear somewhat limiting by comparison.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited Is Not Recommended For:

  • Those operating on a tight budget: Though you could get a discount when you add so many lines, a single line costs $70 per month; it gets discounted to $65 per month with autopay. As such, it can be an expensive option for sole proprietors or small businesses compared to other communication services.
  • Individuals or small teams: Though service is available starting with a single line, discounts begin once you purchase at least two lines. At this point, the pricing makes it such that a small company should seek a more cost-friendly alternative.
  • All-in-One or UCaaS-like service: Some companies want to make calls, host video conferences or collaborate in chat, all through the same service provider. While Verizon is reliable for calling and texting, it is limited compared to services such as RingCentral or Zoom , which offer multiple communication streams.

If you are a business solely searching for excellent call, text and data support, then Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited may be an ideal solution for you. Should you need more than voice and text, it is best to consider other service options.

Verizon’s award-winning reliability is perhaps one primary reason so many customers rely on and remain with the service. Its 5G LTE ensures high-quality calls are made and received with ease, and even where 5G is not available, its 4G LTE network means that you should hardly ever find yourself dealing with poor quality or dropped calls.

Unfortunately, another factor setting Verizon apart is that its plans are among the most expensive, and that may often be due to the virtual monopoly it enjoys in some locations. If you want the ability to make calls through a professional business phone system, there are far more affordable options available. With a VoIP service provider , you may not pay as much or be impacted by a potential lack of competing telecommunication service providers.

There are a few significant features that customers should consider before signing up with a business phone service provider. These items are often the deciding factor in whether your investment will represent good value for your purchase.

Verizon Wireless offers devices that are compatible with its service. This includes a range of smartphones, tablets, laptops and hotspot hardware, all of which may be purchased directly through the website. You also have the option of signing up for Tablet Start and Tablet Pro for plan options that combine Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited with a device of your choice.

International Calling

Much of Verizon Wireless’ service is concentrated in North America—specifically, the continental United States. However, it is still possible to make or receive calls through your Verizon service, even when traveling internationally, but you may incur additional fees or run into limitations while abroad. One way to avoid this issue is to use TravelPass when out of the country.

The TravelPass costs $10 per line per day as an add-on service, or you can get it as part of either the Business Unlimited Plus or Business Unlimited Pro plans. When included with your service plans, you receive between two and four days worth of unlimited calling and text. You also get 2GB of high-speed data, which converts to lower-speed data after you exceed the allotment.

TravelPass is available in over 210 countries, though your device must be 4G or 5G capable. If unused, your TravelPass days will not roll over to the next month.

When you sign up for either Business Unlimited Plus or Pro, you get access to advanced security tools. Plan perks include anti-phishing support, Wi-Fi network protections, management and controls across multiple devices and dedicated chat-based personnel. Please note this feature usually costs an additional $5 per month, but the cost may be offset by a $5 credit with a qualifying plan. The added security is a necessity for many companies desiring data protection.

There are additional security features that may be purchased separately. For instance, Verizon Cypher protects calls made on commercial smartphones, even when making calls across differing phone networks. Contact Verizon’s sales team for a complete list of premium security add-ons available to businesses.

Third-Party Integrations

Because of the nature of this service, it is not designed for integrations with popular apps, such as Salesforce , Slack or HubSpot . This is something you are more likely to get with a unified communications as a service (UCaaS) provider ; if you want a more robust collaboration and calling experience paired with third-party integrations, there are better choices than Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless is often an easy service to use, with the ability to activate your phone relatively quickly. The only thing to be mindful of is if you attempt to sign up for service with an older flip phone or another device that is not up to date. In that case, you would likely need help from customer support, as it may be too challenging to get the equipment to work on your own.

Verizon Wireless offers extremely high-definition audio quality, which has only improved with its 5G LTE availability. From our expert’s experience, calls made or received tend to have sharp, clear audio; we could hear the caller easily and be heard and understood. There were no odd sounds or echoes.

Business Unlimited Start

Verizon’s standard Business Unlimited plan supports talk, text and data for customers across the United States. Unlimited calling and text messaging are available in both Mexico and Canada. Please note that if the percentage is greater than 50% each month, services in those countries could either get removed or limited.

Customers also get 5GB of 5G or 4G LTE mobile hotspot data; if you exceed your monthly allotment, data quality drops to lower speeds (600 Kbps) for the remainder of the month. This plan provides a call filter option to help you cut back on spam calls. As for video streaming quality, Business Unlimited Start supports 480p high definition, which is remarkably lower than the quality available at higher service tiers.

If you need a good quality calling plan for reliable service throughout North America, Unlimited Start does work. However, it is notably limited compared to other pricing plans and, for the cost, needs to represent better value for the money. You could increase your per-line savings substantially by getting at least five lines and utilizing autopay; if you are willing, you are better off upgrading and getting additional features.

Business Unlimited Plus

The Unlimited Plus plan has everything in Start while adding a few key features. For instance, you get 5G Ultra Wideband, which provides the fastest possible network experience, though you must have a device capable of 5G. You also get 100GB of premium network access per month and 100GB of premium hotspot data.

Additionally, this tier adds Call Filter Plus, which improves on standard call filtering by including a caller ID feature, spam look-up risk meter and a personal block feature that removes callers by category. This plan has a monthly TravelPass, giving users two days per month of international calling and texting with 2GB of data. Customers also see their streaming quality increase to 4K HD and enjoy enhanced security through Business Mobile Secure.

Altogether, Business Unlimited Plus offers a better range of service features that make it a much better value for money than Start and probably the better investment, especially after applying various plan discounts to bring down the overall cost.

Business Unlimited Pro

Verizon’s Business Unlimited Pro plan improves on Start and Plus by providing unlimited premium network access all month long and 200GB of mobile hotspot data. TravelPass is increased to the equivalent of four days per month, and customers get 50% off on the Pro Tablet plan. Though this highest tier has the most going for it, its price per line might not make it worth the investment compared to the Plus plan.

When we reached out to customer support with questions, we were able to connect with a member of the team without too long of a wait. The agent who answered our call was professional, helpful and able to guide us through activating our service and ensuring that everything was in working order.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited vs. Grasshopper

Verizon’s business phone service relies on a more traditional telecommunications system to ensure high-quality calling and texting. At the same time, Grasshopper is a virtual phone system that operates using an existing phone service. Verizon customers can rely on up to 5G LTE for data, making it possible to use the internet without a traditional connection. As Grasshopper is a virtual service needing an existing phone line, you must add it to a current phone service.

If you went with a more affordable phone service provider than Verizon, it might be possible to pay as little as $14 per month. In such a case, you not only get calling and texting capabilities but also enjoy additional features, such as a professional number and phone system, internet faxing, custom greetings and instant response. Grasshopper is the better choice, as it comes with more business phone system features.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited vs. Vonage

Regarding pricing and features, Verizon and Vonage are each ideal for medium to enterprise-level companies. That said, at $13.99 per month, Vonage has a far lower starting cost than Verizon’s Business Unlimited plan, even with Verizon’s potential discounts.

The Business Unlimited plan could work for businesses mainly operating in the U.S. with some occasional need for international calling. Vonage has better international calling support while having other collaboration-friendly features, such as video conferencing, internet faxing and voice mail to email. Moreover, Vonage has popular third-party integrations that allow your business to do more than send and receive calls or texts.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited provides a high-quality voice and internet experience. Still, for larger companies that need more communication, especially for team engagement and learning, Vonage will offer more features, making it the ideal choice.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited vs. Zoom Phone

Between the two, Verizon Wireless offers better-quality audio during calls; that said, Zoom provides the ability to make audio and video calls, which opens up collaboration potential considerably, especially when you need to share documents and other visual data with clients or team members.

Zoom Phone only provides unlimited domestic calling once you upgrade to the highest tier. Even in doing so, you will pay less for service than Verizon Wireless’ most affordable plan. Still, Verizon does offer unlimited calling, texting and data from its lowest tier. If you want a few additional features, such as video conferencing and call monitoring and more affordable pricing, Zoom Phone is the better option.

Verizon Wireless phones and services are very reliable, and we were able to make and receive calls and text messages easily to people located across the country. Even when calling internationally, we found few issues when using the service.

verizon business plans 2 lines

That said, while Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited represents reliable traditional phone communication, businesses should strongly consider value for money and the availability of more comprehensive collaboration tools. For instance, some competing service providers provide video conferencing and voice and text messaging. One can collaborate in chat rooms in real time and share screens and files.

While Verizon Wireless works as a straightforward phone solution, if your company needs a wide range of channels for communication and collaboration, consider an alternative service that can give you more ways to stay in touch with customers and peers alike.

Does Verizon have business lines?

Yes, with the Business Unlimited plan, you pay a starting price $65 per month for one line (if you sign up for autopay). If you get five or more lines, the price drops to $30 monthly for each line.

Is Verizon Business the same as Verizon?

Verizon Business is targeted at professionals and companies needing phone service, while Verizon is the overall company with plans for business and non-business customers.

Does Verizon give small business discounts?

While we did not find discounts for small businesses specifically, Verizon does offer discounts to qualifying customers, including deals specifically for veterans.

Frequently asked questions

Is a contract or service agreement required with a Verizon business bundle?

Verizon Fios for small business is available with or without a contract or service agreement. Customers can choose to sign a two-year contract and pay less each month or forgo the contract and pay slightly more. If you opt for the two-year contract, there is an early termination fee for canceling service before the end of the term.

Do I lose phone service if the power goes out?

Verizon’s small-business phone system is digital. This gives the service the advantage of powerful features at a more affordable price. However, since it’s digital, electricity is required for operation, whereas a traditional landline still works even without electricity. To help offset the chance that your business could lose phone service when the power goes out, we provide a battery back-up system with all Verizon business bundles that helps maintain phone service for up to 24 hours in the event of an outage.

Can I choose my phone number with Verizon Fios?

Yes, you can choose any number you like for your business phone line when you purchase a Verizon business bundle. Your phone number is an important part of branding your business, so Verizon offers several choices for small businesses. You can keep your existing number or choose a toll-free number or local number for your business.

With the widest 4G network coverage in the United States, Verizon is one of the largest and most popular network carriers available. The top-performing carrier offers a vast range of business cell phone plans and services to suit businesses of all sizes.

Compared to competitors AT&T and T-Mobile , Verizon leads as the network provider with the strongest and widest reach , making it the ideal choice for businesses with teams in remote and urban areas. However, strong network coverage comes at a price. Verizon is currently one of the more expensive options, with plans going up to $1,000.00 per month.

Verizon offers strong network coverage, 5G access, and adaptable plans that can meet the communication needs of businesses , individuals, and families. The carrier is a great choice for remote teams or individuals that travel a lot. Verizon's international plans provide unlimited data and texting in over 210 international countries.

Verizon's biggest shortfall is the price . While the network provider is one of the best carriers for businesses with multiple teams, it does cost significantly more than its top competitors and won't be ideal for startups and businesses with small communication budgets.

Our Verizon Business Internet review

Verizon offers one of the most varied collections of business internet plans in the nation with four very different service options: Fios (fiber), 5G, LTE, and a premium enterprise option Verizon calls Internet Dedicated. Because pricing is relatively static across Verizon’s various business internet offerings, accessibility dictates which you should choose. While we think Verizon is one the best internet service providers (ISPs) in the nation, some of its business services are certainly better than others. All things considered, Fios is by far our favorite Verizon Business Internet service; it provides more speed and a superior connection for the same price as Verizon’s other business offerings.

Verizon 5G Business Internet

Verizon lte business internet, verizon internet dedicated, fees, equipment, and contracts, bundle discounts, compare verizon business internet plans and pricing.

Which of Verizon’s several business internet types is best for your business will mostly depend on what’s available in your area. Without a significant difference in pricing, the Fios plans offer the most value and the highest-quality service. However, 5G and LTE may be solid picks for locations outside of Verizon’s fiber footprint.

Key Features:

  • Fastest speeds
  • Most reliable
  • Symmetrical bandwidth (faster upload speeds)
  • Unlimited data

Verizon Fios is a fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) service, which delivers symmetrical multi-gigabit speeds via high-bandwidth fiber-optic cables. Symmetrical speeds mean you get equally fast download and upload speeds that are important for applications like video conferencing and large file transfers. As for reliability, Fios is as good as it gets. Even among other fiber ISPs, Verizon stands out, having earned the top reliability ratings from customers two years in a row. Fios’ main drawback is its lack of availability: It’s mostly limited to the East Coast.

Fios is the best choice (if you have access to it), given Verizon’s business internet pricing doesn’t change much across its different tech types. It deals out faster download and upload speeds and is more reliable than Verizon’s 5G or LTE. That isn’t to say those services are not good, but Fios rests on one of the most impressive and well-maintained internet networks in the country. There’s not much that compares.

Key features

  • Very convenient (no cables)

  • Fast and reliable

Verizon now offers business internet through its superior cellular network, which has been considered the best in the U.S. for over two decades. According to the FCC, Verizon 5G Business Internet reaches most of the U.S., so if you can’t get Fios, this is a great option.

5G internet’s main strengths are simplicity and convenience. Because the service runs over cellular networks, self-installations are quick and incredibly easy. And if you are going to power your internet connection with a cell network, you can’t do better than Verizon’s when it comes to speed and reliability. 5G internet has received excellent feedback from customers across the board, earning several top scores in our most recent customer satisfaction survey .

  • Most convenient (no cables)
  • 1–3 year price guarantee

Verizon’s LTE internet service is a good pick for businesses in more rural areas or locations without cable, fiber, or 5G internet. For areas with few connectivity options, LTE services can be a game-changer for businesses and even open up new areas for expansion that were previously off limits due to no or poor internet access.

But, in no circumstance do we recommend this service above any fiber, cable, or 5G internet service. Verizon’s LTE is similarly priced to its other offerings with substantially slower speeds, a limiting 300GB data cap, and throttled speeds after your first 50GB. This is not a service for companies that rely on high-bandwidth connectivity. But if you just need to send and receive emails, process payments, and access the web, Verizon’s LTE can get you there.

Internet Dedicated is a premium business internet service for organizations that critically depend on their internet service. Verizon provides dedicated symmetrical bandwidth, guaranteeing a certain level performance 24/7. When other companies are suffering from typical network congestion, Internet Dedicated customers circumvent the issue using its direct, guaranteed bandwidth.

This is heavy-duty corporate internet service, suitable for organizations with multiple data centers and complex connectivity needs. These services are highly variable and customizable, so you’ll need to discuss your needs with a Verizon representative in order to get a rate quote.

Plan details vary considerably from one plan to the next. Verizon’s 5G business plans are the most generous. The LTE plans have the strictest policies. The Fios fiber plans fall somewhere in between.

All Fios and 5G business plans come with unlimited data. But Verizon’s LTE Business plans have monthly data caps as low as 300GB; that’s another reason why the LTE plans are only suitable for businesses with modest connectivity needs.

Installation

Verizon Fios will likely require a professional installation, which is common for fiber internet. The 5G and LTE fixed wireless service usually only require a quick and easy self-installation, except for the 400Mbps 5G Business Internet plan, which requires a professional install. With all services, additional charges for inside wiring and more complex installations may apply.

Bundling your Verizon Business internet with a business mobile plan can introduce very substantial savings. If you combine any of Verizon’s wireless business internet services (5G or LTE) with a Verizon Business Unlimited mobile line, you save $30 per month for every internet line attached to the account (up to six lines). This offer is currently limited to Verizon 5G and LTE business internet.

Verdict: Which Verizon Business Internet service is best?

Normally this is the part where we say you should match your needs with the right plan, but, if you have access to Verizon Fios, there’s little reason to go with anything else. You get more speed for the same price, plus the peace of mind of being on what’s arguably the most reliable major internet network in the nation.

If you don’t have access to Verizon Fios, Verizon 5G Business Internet should suffice for most use cases. 5G internet is still young, but in the last few years, we’ve received exceedingly positive feedback from 5G customers. Latency and speed don’t seem to be an issue, and the convenience of a completely wireless service is second to none.

Verizon’s LTE business is great for connecting business in low connectivity areas without many other options. But given the prices, data caps, and slower speeds, LTE won’t work for everyone. It’s far too limited for a busy office, but shops and service stations in remote areas may find just what they need with Verizon LTE.

FAQ about Verizon Business internet

Where is verizon fios business internet available.

According to the latest FCC data, Verizon Fios Business Internet availability is mostly limited to the East Coast with service in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, Delaware, and a very small coverage area in Mississippi. FCC data is usually at least six months behind current coverage, so certain coverage areas may not be represented with 100% accuracy.

Is Verizon Fios better than Verizon 5G Internet?

Yes, Verizon Fios is a superior service to Verizon 5G. Fios speeds are not only faster but also symmetrical, meaning your upload speeds are much faster than they would be on Verizon 5G. Fiber networks are also more reliable and have lower latency for time-sensitive applications like video calls. The final nail in the 5G coffin is the pricing; 5G doesn’t come with a reduction in price—you actually pay more per megabyte of speed.

Verizon Launches 2.0 Business Smartphone Plans – More Premium and Mobile Hotspot Data

Posted on: October 7, 2021 / In: News Stories , Verizon / By: Jen Nealy Leave a Comment

Key Points:

  • Verizon introduces "2.0" versions of their Business Unlimited smartphone plans
  • The 2.0 changes include more mobile hotspot data and higher network management thresholds

Verizon rolled out some changes to their lineup of Business Unlimited Smartphone plans, adding more mobile hotspot data and higher network management thresholds but otherwise keeping other plan terms the same.  These new plans carry the same names (Start, Plus, and Pro) but with a "2.0" added on.

Table of Contents

Verizon Business Video Overview

Verizon Business Unlimited Smartphone Plans

Verizon Logo

Since that time, both AT&T and T-Mobile upgraded their postpaid plan lineups to offer better features than Verizon, such as more data for hotspot use and better network management terms.

While Verizon did recently introduce some new and attractive prepaid data plans, Verizon's smartphone lineup has lagged behind the competition - until now.

Today Verizon rolled out the "2.0" version of their business plans, bringing them more in line with what their competitors are offering.  Although these 2.0 changes are only for business plans, we hope that Verizon makes similar changes to the consumer versions of these plans soon.

Business Unlimited 2.0 Plan Changes

The plans are now called Business Unlimited Start 2.0, Plus 2.0, and Pro 2.0. The "2.0" moniker is appropriate because the changes are not new plans, but upgrades to the previous versions.

Here are the 2.0 changes:

More Mobile Hotspot Data

On the previous plan lineup, the Start plan had no high-speed mobile hotspot data, the Plus plan had 30GB, and the Pro plan had 60GB.

With the 2.0 lineup, high-speed mobile hotspot data for each plan is increased. Start 2.0 now has 5GB of mobile hotspot data, Plus 2.0 has 50GB, and Pro 2.0 has 100GB.

As before, once the high-speed mobile hotspot cap is reached, speeds will slow to 600 Kbps while on the 4G and 5G Nationwide networks, and to 3 Mbps while on 5G Ultra Wideband (5G Ultra Wideband applies to Plus 2.0 and Pro 2.0 only).

Network Management

Additionally, the network management thresholds for the Plus 2.0 and Pro 2.0 plans were increased.

On the Start plan, data was always subject to network management deprioritization and that doesn't change with the 2.0 version - all data is still at a lower priority.

On the Plus plan, the network management threshold was increased from 60GB to 100GB.

On the Pro plan, the limit was 120GB but with Pro 2.0, the network management threshold is eliminated, meaning that data use is never deprioritized - all data will be premium data.

Verizon Business 2.0

Other Plan Details

Other 2.0 plan features remain the same from the previous plan lineup to the 2.0 versions including the price - however, there are greater multi-line discounts for 5+ smartphone lines, which are now $5/month cheaper. Pricing for 1-4 lines remains the same.

Other terms that remain the same include video streaming speeds (480p for Start, 720p for Plus/Pro), 5G access (5G Nationwide for Start, 5G Nationwide, and Ultra Wideband for Pro/Plus).

Of note, the 2.0 changes only affect smartphone lines - the features of the Business Unlimited tablet, data device, and smartwatch add-on plans and options remain the same.

Comparison to Other Available Plans

Since AT&T and T-Mobile made improvements to their plan lineups months ago, it's nice to see Verizon finally catching up. While these changes are welcome, and Verizon has recently introduced some new prepaid plans, at this time they have only made changes to their Business Plan lineup for postpaid.

We expect (and hope) to see Verizon make similar changes to their consumer postpaid plan lineup in the near future.

We picked the best cell phone plans for unlimited data, nationwide coverage, hotspot data, family discounts, and sign-up deals.

✰ Best-value plans from our recommended partners ✰

Tyler Abbott

Choosing a cell phone plan has never been harder: There are just too many great options.

Between T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and the plethora of prepaid carriers like Visible, Mint Mobile, and Consumer Cellular, there are over 200 cell phone packages available in the United States—many of which include excellent pricing, generous data allotments, and 5G coverage.

We keep tabs on the latest plan options and follow developments in the mobile world closely. Take a dive into this guide to get the scoop on the best cell phone packages. You can find details on which plans deliver the best coverage, most competitive prices, greatest deals on hotspot data, juiciest discounts for families, and more.

Best cell phone plans at a glance

Here is a quick breakdown of the plans we highlight on this page:

  • Best unlimited plan for a single line: T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus plan gives you everything you could need in a phone plan and more: Unlimited high-speed data, 50GB of monthly hotspot data, international data and texting, plus a yearlong AAA membership and subscriptions to Netflix and Apple TV+.
  • Best cell phone coverage: Verizon’s Unlimited Welcome offers the best cellular coverage for a fair price, so you’re more likely to get a clear connection whether you’re in a network-congested city or a remote rural area.
  • Best overall value : The $25 Visible Plan doesn’t cost much but still delivers reliable 4G LTE and 5G coverage via Verizon’s networks. You also get unlimited hotspot data, albeit at maximum speeds of 5Mbps.
  • Best deal for new customers: Mint Mobile charges only $15 per month for the first three months of service for unlimited talk, text, and data with a 40GB data cap.
  • Best family plan : The AT&T Unlimited Starter SL plan comes with ActiveArmor security, a nice chunk of hotspot data, and lower rates per line as you add more lines together.
  • Best budget option for a single line : Tello sticks to the basics with its 10 GB Data + Unlimited Talk & Text plan. For just $19 a month, you get a solid chunk of high-speed data that works over T-Mobile's 4G LTE and 5G networks. You can also use the data for your phone's hotspot.

How did we pick the best cell phone plans?

Reviews.org does extensive research to compare and contrast prices on cell phone plans—but price isn’t everything. To determine the real value of a good cell phone package, we pay close attention to important factors like the coverage you get and data speeds on the carrier’s network. We go into more detail on these two driving factors and others farther down on this page .

After looking over the fine print for pricing, speeds, high-speed data, and more, we reach out to folks in different areas of the country and scour platforms like Reddit and Quora for firsthand accounts giving us insights into the cellular carriers and plans we want to highlight. We also try to get hands-on experience with cell phone plans when it’s possible to do so. With all those considerations, we can make reliable recommendations.

T-Mobile Go5G Plus: Best unlimited plan for a single line

Cellular carriers have been leveraging partnerships with streaming companies and other brands to offer “everything but the kitchen sink”-style phone options lately, and T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus is a perfect example. One of T-Mobile’s flagship unlimited plans, it offers truly unlimited high-speed data, 50GB of hotspot data along, and some major perks, including subscriptions to Netflix and AppleTV+ (with 4K streaming), a free one-year AAA membership, and T-Mobile Tuesday discounts.

This is a perfect option for regular travelers and others who regularly need phone and internet while away from home. A Wi-Fi hotspot data cap of 50GB gives you a lot of flexibility for streaming, gaming, and remote work on multiple devices. The plan also includes unlimited texting and 5GB of priority data when you travel internationally—and 15GB of data for Canada and Mexico.

It’s well worth considering a lower-tier T-Mobile unlimited package (such as Go5G or Essentials Saver) if you don’t need all the bells and whistles that come with Go5G Plus. But no other carrier compares to T-Mobile when it comes to mobile perks, and all of the flexibility, firepower, and extras you get on this plan more than justify the higher cost.

Pay half price for the same T-Mobile coverage

If you want to get a good cell phone plan that operates on T-Mobile’s network, you can always opt for a prepaid carrier. Prepaid carriers (otherwise known as MVNO or mobile virtual network operators ) use the same networks as the major carriers, but charge significantly less for unlimited plans.

Tello’s unlimited data plan costs only $25 a month and uses T-Mobile’s network for service. Just know that Tello's unlimited plan comes with a 35GB data cap, and once you pass that data allotment, your speeds slow to an absolute crawl. Stick to Wi-Fi as much as you can, and you shouldn’t come close to passing the data cap.

Verizon has long held a strong reputation for cellular coverage, and it still delivers excellent service across most of the country today. Verizon’s 4G LTE network covers 55% of the country ( according to federal data ) and it gets the best ratings for coverage experience from Opensignal, an analytics organization that monitors cellular networks. That makes Verizon’s Unlimited Welcome plan the way to go if you need an ultrareliable cellular carrier or live in an area that otherwise gets spotty service.

Francisco Ruiz, an avid road tripper living in Los Angeles told Reviews.org about an experience where Verizon’s coverage made all the difference. “We blew a tire on the I-15 freeway near Barstow and were miles away from the nearest town,” Ruiz said. “I was the only one in our group who used Verizon—and the only one who could get a signal to call AAA.”

Verizon takes a thrifty approach to perks

The Unlimited Welcome plan also offers discounts and benefits as part of a unique slate of $10 per month add-ons. Services include mobile hotspot data, TravelPass credits, and subscriptions to platforms like Apple One and the Disney Bundle ( Disney+ , Hulu , & ESPN+ ). Some of the discounts are pretty slim, and it would be nicer if you could get the benefits for no additional price. But the $10 add-on structure makes it so you can pick and choose. It also brings down the overall price of an unlimited plan, letting you cover all the important fundamentals (like 5G Ultra Wideband access and unlimited high-speed data) at a relatively affordable price.

Pay half price for the same Verizon coverage

Verizon’s cell phone plans can be costly, but you can get a cheaper unlimited plan on Verizon’s network with a prepaid MVNO carrier.

Looking for an alternative to Verizon? If you already pay for Spectrum or Cox internet , you can bundle your internet and cell phone packages together for a discounted rate. Going with one of these providers is a great option if you need a simple, low-cost cellular plan that still delivers solid cell service over the best 4G LTE network coverage in the country.

The first thing you notice about Visible is the price: An unlimited phone package for only $25 a month is absolute steal. The fact that you get unlimited talk, text, data, and mobile hotspot data for such a low fee makes Visible one of the best value cell phone plans on the market.

As you can read in our full-length Visible wireless review , you do have to accept some limitations with this carrier. The baseline plan operates on Verizon’s network, giving you the best cellular coverage in the United States. However, you don’t get access to the fastest data speeds on Verizon’s Ultra Wideband 5G network—that requires an upgrade to Visible+, which costs $20 more per month.

The hotspot data on this plan is also capped at 5Mbps. But you get unlimited hotspot data, and in a switch from how things used to be, Visible allows you to connect more than one Wi-Fi device at a time. Slow it may be, you still enough speeds to stream in standard definition and browse the internet—a handy option if you’ve got a toddler in the backseat who just has to watch Disney+ on their iPad during a long drive or you need to do some work while at a hotel.

Currently, nobody can beat Mint Mobile 's unlimited plan that costs just $15 per month for the first three months of service. Even after those three months are up, Mint's $30 unlimited plan still has most cell phone packages beat when it comes to price. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need good cell phone service for at least a couple of months, look no further.

You won't always get the fastest data speeds with a prepaid carrier. But since Mint uses T-Mobile's fast 5G network—the fastest and most widely-available 5G in the country —that means you can get download speeds on your phone up to 50Mbps.

Occasional data speed throttling

Mint Mobile customers might occasionally see their data speeds throttled during peak-usage periods or when the network gets congested with too many users. If tons of people are accessing the internet at the same time on T-Mobile's network, the carrier gives priority to its brand-name customers and sends prepaid customers to the back of the line.

You're much more likely to run into data throttling in a big city or at a crowded concert or sports game. But if you're out in the suburbs or living in a rural area, you’re less likely to see slowdowns.

AT&T Unlimited Starter SL: Best family plan

On its own, the AT&T Unlimited Starter plan costs $66 a month, but the price per line drops significantly when you add more lines. Three lines or more make the plan just $45.99 a month per line, and you can get it down to $35.99 a month per line when you get a family plan with four or more lines together.

The total savings on this plan adds up to $380 every month. AT&T has a lot of great cellular plans , but this one hits the sweet spot because you also get unlimited data, 5GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data every month, and you can even get a free phone with the trade-in program. What sets this AT&T family plan apart from similar plans offered by T-Mobile and Verizon is the extra security features. All AT&T plans come with a feature called ActiveArmor that alerts users for suspected fraud and spam. If you’re worried about family members getting scammed, this feature offers some peace of mind.

Tello Mobile 10 GB Data + Unlimited Talk & Text: Best budget option for a single line

A prepaid provider running over T-Mobile's 4G LTE and 5G networks, Tello gets you a simple deal that's perfect if you make a few calls a week and use your data for standard social media scrolling. T-Mobile has the biggest 5G network in the country and excellent coverage overall, so you can get reliable cell service on this plan for a bargain price.

The plan costs just $19 a month, and while it doesn't give you as much data as you get from other carriers, 10GB a month is still enough to get a modest streamer or social media scroller through the month. You can also use your phone's hotspot with this plan; just be careful how often you use it, since the hotspot data comes out of your total 10GB monthly allotment.

If you need more data, you can always upgrade to the unlimited plan, which gives you 35GB of data for just $6 more a month.

What to look for in a cell phone plan

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when deciding on a cell phone plan:

A reasonable price: The average phone user spends $66 a month on a cellular plan from one of the “Big Three” carriers (T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T). But many cellular customers would be just fine paying $39 a month for a prepaid plan from an MVNO like Visible or Mint. Make sure to compare prices and think through what features you really need before committing to a phone plan.

Enough high-speed data to last you the month: About 10GB of high-speed data a month is a great start for many users, but consdering the average person checks their phone 144 times a day , you may need more or less depending on how often you use your phone to go online. Many cell phone plans are advertised as “unlimited,” but they come with a cap on high-speed or “premium” data that gives you a fast connection over 4G LTE and 5G networks. You may need to look at the fine print to figure out how much high-speed data you’re getting.

Adequate coverage for where you live: Not all mobile providers have reliable service in every part of the United States. Verizon has the best 4G LTE cellular coverage in the country, but T-Mobile has the biggest and fastest 5G network. See our breakdown on the best carriers for coverage to get a sense of which carrier works best for you.

Mobile hotspot data (if you need it): Do you like taking your laptop and working on the beach? Some cell phone plans offer designated high-speed hotspot data every month, and you can also sign up for a separate data plan that lets you power a mobile hotspot device capable of hitting faster speeds and connecting more devices.

A discount for two lines or family plans: Many carriers offer a discount per-line when you open two lines or more on a package, giving you a break on the overall cost of your monthly bill. This is usually referred to as a family plan discount, but you can add anyone you want on an extra line—including friends or even neighbors.

Which wireless carrier has the best cellular coverage?

Verizon has the best cell phone coverage for 4G LTE users nationwide, while T-Mobile gets the best 5G coverage.

Analytics company Opensignal credited Verizon for offering the best 4G LTE coverage in the country. Those results track with our experience comparing the top cell phone coverage in the United States. While usage of 5G phones is on the upswing, 4G coverage is still more prevalent than 5G. So you’re best off with a plan on Verizon’s network over AT&T and T-Mobile for coverage.

Network coverage experience

Verizon9.55.4
AT&T9.05.8
T-Mobile8.57.4

Opensignal’s “coverage experience” rating measures “the extent of mobile networks in the places people live, work and travel,” according to its report. Taking in both percentage of land and population covered by cell service, the rating reflects the users’ experience as they travel around areas where cell service should be readily available.

Every cell phone plan we recommend uses at least one of the Big Three major networks: AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon. These networks stretch across the United States but can offer wildly different experiences depending upon your exact location. For example, a Verizon customer in Des Moines, Iowa might get better cell reception than a T-Mobile customer in the same city.

The best way to find out what coverage to expect in your neighborhood is by entering your zip code in our coverage map and swap between the networks to see what network offers the best coverage for you.

Which wireless carrier has the best wireless speeds?

T-Mobile gets the fastest data speeds on average, according to Opensignal. The analytics company rates speed through the Download Speed Experience metric, which measures users’ everyday experiences with 4G and 5G wireless networks—and T-Mobile blows the competition out of the water.

Faster internet speeds mean you can download and upload files faster and watch YouTube videos without buffering. But fast speeds also make it possible to do more things on one device. For example, fast speeds mean you can download an app in a shorter time while also getting up-to-date traffic info on your GPS app in between streaming YouTube videos.

Average download speeds

AT&T45.5Mbps
T-Mobile113.1Mbps
Verizon38.1Mbps

Recap: What’s the best cell phone plan?

There isn’t really a one-size-fits-all best cell phone plan. That’s why we break down our recommendations into categories. Here are our best-in-choice cell phone plans for our top six categories:

  • Best unlimited plan: T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus plan offers unlimited high-speed data, including 50GB of hotspot data, for $90/month per line. Go5G Plus customers also unlimited international texting, 5GB of international high-speed phone data, free subscriptions to Netflix and AppleTV+, and a free AAA membership for a year. And with T-Mobile Tuesday deals, Go5G Plus’s perks are practically unlimited.
  • Best coverage : Verizon offers the most reliable coverage no matter where you go in the country.
  • Best overall value : Visible gets you unlimited hotspot data (with max speeds of 5Mbps) for just $25 a month, making this a nice plan for small families and road trippers.
  • Best deal for new customers : Mint Mobile offers its unlimited talk, text, and data plan to new customers at half the price for the first three months of service.
  • Best family plan : The AT&T Unlimited Starter SL costs $66 a month on its own, but the price plummets down to $36 monthly if you get a family plan together with four or more lines.
  • Best value phone plan for a single line : Tello’s 10 GB Data + Unlimited Talk & Text only costs $19 a month and gets you a solid little chunk of data and excellent coverage over T-Mobile's 4G LTE and 5G networks.

Getting Ready to Retire? 3 Options for Your Business

Rosalie Murphy

Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money .

Retiring is a process. It involves preparing your finances, your relationships and yourself. And if you’re a business owner, there’s an extra step — deciding what’s next for your customers and employees.

As soon as you start thinking about your own retirement, start thinking about what will happen to your business, says Paul Tramontano, executive managing director and wealth manager at Cresset Capital, a financial advisory firm that works with entrepreneurs.

“You have a lot of optionality as you think about transitioning your business to the next generation or selling it,” Tramontano says. “The earlier, the better.”

In general, there are three paths business owners can take as they prepare to retire: finding a successor, selling the business or closing it down. Here’s what might lie ahead.

1. Find a successor

If you hope to leave your business to a successor, “build a team early on that can carry on the business,” says Keith Schiller, a retired attorney who specialized in business succession and now advises entrepreneurs with business mentoring organization SCORE.

You may go into your business with partners, anticipating from the start that one will run the business someday and creating a buy-sell agreement to clearly define the transition.

“If you have two or more partners or shareholders, you should be thinking about succession on day one,” Schiller says.

Or you might identify employees who are interested in running the business and have the capacity to do it well. They can learn on the job and develop relationships with your clients and business partners, giving you confidence that your business is in good hands.

If any family members are next in line, the process requires extra sensitivity.

Schiller recommends consulting not only your accountant and banker, but also a life insurance agent and an attorney who has experience in business succession. You can even seek out a family dynamics consultant, who can help address the personal and financial complexities between family members during a business succession.

“I see families disintegrate when the powerful principal owner dies,” Schiller says.

2. Sell the business

If you don’t choose your own successor, another option is to sell the business to someone who will continue operating it.

“If a company has ongoing income and cash flow, there’s a buyer somewhere,” Tramontano says.

There are three categories of business buyers, Tramontano says: employee successors, who already know the business and want to try their hand at operating it; strategic buyers, who can add your business to a portfolio and realize efficiencies; and competitors, who can expand their footprint in your market.

“Generally, the strategic [buyer] is the one that can pay you the most, because they can get synergies from operating efficiencies,” Tramontano says.

A business broker, especially one who specializes in your field, may be a helpful resource in valuing your business , finding a strategic buyer and negotiating a sale.

That doesn’t mean the strategic buyer is always the right choice, though — especially if the buyer doesn't align with your values.

“Maybe there’s an entrepreneur who’s been serving the community for a long time, and they want to make sure that the business stays open and stays available for the community,” Tramontano says. “Those kinds of things can really come into the calculus.”

3. Close the business

Schiller closed his law practice when he retired several years ago. He hadn’t found a successor prepared to take it over, and no potential buyer felt like the right fit. “It was a control issue,” Schiller says, because he had a specific vision for the business.

Instead, Schiller spent the last years of his practice referring his clients to other attorneys. When he retired, he liquidated the business.

This was possible in part because he could afford it, Schiller says — he wasn’t relying on the business’s value to fund his retirement .

To give yourself this option down the road, start by creating a self-employed retirement plan and investing a portion of your income there. That will help you build a nest egg, just as you’d have with a company-sponsored retirement plan.

“Start as early as you can,” Tramontano says. “The better you plan, the more options you have at your disposal.”
