Personal Narrative Essay: How Music Changed My Life

Everyone has a passion for something, whether it be sports or public speaking. Well, for me, that passion is music. I have always loved music, and that love has increased more and more over the years. From being in music classes for most of my high school career, I have felt a lot of love and support from my friends and teachers. When I had realized the family bond there is in musical groups, I never wanted to leave. As I was often in either band or choir, I would often see the joy of my teachers when things went according to plan and when we played or sang something amazing. One piece in particular comes to mind. While in my junior year of high school, I was in the chamber choir. My choir director had introduced us to a Christmas piece called “Go, and Tell It on The Mountain.” This arrangement of the song was a very jazzy version of the original piece. After several days of practicing in class, my director stopped us and asked us if we had thought about the words and what they meant. This really took me back, as I had never really been asked such a question before. This experience let me gain more gratitude for the words we were singing, and it helped me to be more expressive and have a love for the music. By the end of singing this piece at our concert, my friends and I were tearing up at the message of joy that the song gave to the audience. I want to help students realize the joy of music and the way that it can touch the souls of the people who listen to them. I want them to feel that they can be united as a family of musicians, that, no matter what part they sing or play, each one of them matters and contributes to the ensemble. I also want them to feel how blessed they are for being able to create music with the talents that they have.

I have felt deep emotions when singing in choir in high school, but nothing has compared to having the privilege to sing in the Brigham Young University Men’s Chorus. Several times I have felt overwhelming joy or deep sadness from singing songs in that choir. For instance, one of the first songs we sang was an arrangement of “How Great Thou Art.” In that song it spoke about the wonderful creation of the earth, the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us, and the power of the Atonement in our lives. Every time we sang that in class, I nearly wept with immense sadness and deep joy at what we were singing about. Countless times our director, Rosalind Hall, would also be in tears because she could feel the joy of music radiating from those men who sang the truth of Jesus’ Creations and His Atonement. From this experience, I have felt the power that music has in our lives and the way that it can change people.

In high school, I always considered myself lucky to be in such amazing groups with such amazing people. When I wasn’t doing as well as I thought, I would often ask myself if it was worth the effort to be in these good ensembles. When I thought about it, I would always think about what my middle school band director always said to us. He would say, “Each of you has a part to play here, each one of you matters. To this ensemble, to me, to your friends, your parents. But you should always matter to yourself.” This has stuck with me throughout all my years in junior high and high school. Even to this day, when I don’t feel like I’m worth it, I always remember what my band director said to us. I want kids to feel like they belong together, and that they matter. Not just to an ensemble, but to me, their peers, their parents, and most importantly to themselves.

I have always been told how talented I am. I’ve gotten comments from my friends, my teachers, and even my parents. Often, my parents would tell me that I should share the talents that I had with others. I had always learned in church about sharing our gifts with others, so I had always kept a high standard when I practiced, so that I could share my talents with others and make them feel happy and to help them feel joy. I have many younger siblings, and when they were all little, I would always sing to them to make them happy. This was especially apparent when I would sing to them as infants. Many times I would have to put them down for naps or calm them down when they were screaming. When I did, I would sing soft hymns to them and within a few minutes, they would calm down or go to sleep. I would often pray to God for allowing me to have this gift of music and to have the opportunity to be able to share it with others.

Music has changed my life in so many ways, and it will continue to change my life as well as others’ lives. I have seen the ways that it can bring joy into not only the lives of the audience, but to the lives of the performers as well. I have seen the ways in which people can contribute to the ensembles that I have been in. Often people don’t think that they matter or that they have an important part, but in reality, everyone is important. I have also learned about how using our talents for good purposes can bless the lives of others. Overall, music has influenced many of my decisions in life, including what college I wanted to attend. I want to be able to share the effects of music with everyone that I meet.

How Music Heals and Inspires Us in Challenging Times

Making or listening to music, especially with others, helps keep us going..

Posted July 19, 2021 | Reviewed by Devon Frye

  • Research shows that music, especially singing collectively, has positive social benefits.
  • Music has been shown to reduce depression and anxiety, even in high-stress jobs.
  • Music can help us to be resilient by reinterpreting difficult experiences to be less threatening.

Do you have a certain song that helps you weather your life’s storms? Whose lyrics capture your feelings, or whose beat shakes you out of your rumination? Do you listen to music to reflect your mood? Or maybe even to change your mood?

Think about how, during the dark depths of the early pandemic in 2020, people across Italy , Canada , and the United States would open their windows each evening and sing together. And how those in other countries also found ways to share music—including people singing together virtually online.

Collagist/Pixabay[dot]com

Their collective music-making was a remarkable testament to the human drive for survival. It was also a powerful reminder that our individual survival is linked to the solidarity we find in our shared humanity. Openly participating together in expressing the hope that keeps us going feels natural in the midst of a scary situation affecting everyone.

What the Research Shows

Research suggests that singing together fosters both individual health and social bonds among those who join in. Put simply, the endorphins it releases in our brains make us feel good. They also increase our ability to tolerate pain—including emotional pain, like that we experienced seeing such disturbing pandemic images as the tractor-trailers used as overflow morgues in New York City because so many people were dying of COVID-19 in the early months of the pandemic.

A group of scientists who met back in 2006 at Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics noted that research has demonstrated that music with a strong beat stimulates the brain and ultimately causes brainwaves to resonate in time with the rhythm. On the other hand, low beats encourage the slow brainwaves that are associated with hypnotic or meditative states. Faster beats may encourage more alert and concentrated thinking.

Listening to music has been found to reduce stress and anxiety even in critically ill hospital patients . One study found that even front-line nurses—a profession already high in stress and higher than ever in the pandemic—can reduce their stress by taking a break and listening to soothing music. In the study, one group of nurses listened to soothing music of their choice for 30 minutes while the other group simply rested quietly in a chair for 30 minutes. Researchers found after the 30-minute rest the nurses who listened to music had lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone , than those who had simply rested.

Recent research demonstrates that adding music to standard therapeutic tools made a difference for people with depression and anxiety compared with therapy without music.

Singing and Making Music Together Supports Resilience

Music, especially vocal music, has always been important to me. Ever since I was a boy, I have had an ear for human voices, able to recognize and distinguish individual singers by the unique tone of their voice. I’ve also had a knack for remembering song lyrics, meaning I can sing along with a lot of songs. Best of all, I have been blessed with a pretty good tenor voice, and I love to sing.

Add these things together, and you can understand why I have always had a song for every event, mood and occasion. I have used my mental jukebox and singing voice to vocalize my emotions. I have songs to motivate me when I need to recharge my energy, and other songs to give voice to loneliness and sadness. My repertoire includes plenty of songs to express joy and celebrate life. They are all part of why music has always been central to my own resilience .

I’ve thought about these things—and wrote this piece—after recently reading Harriett Beecher Stowe’s famous nation-changing 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin . Stowe evokes powerful images of the enslaved women and men who labored under the hot southern sun, picking cotton. They often sang spirituals together as they worked. “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” was one of the popular tunes included in the 1867 collection Slave Songs of the United States , the first-ever collection of African American music. Singing together was a way to ease each other’s pain and sorrow, and to provide strength to get through another day of bondage .

Another cultural reference: In the 1956 movie adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “The King and I,” Deborah Kerr in “I Whistle a Happy Tune" sings:

While shivering in my shoes I strike a careless pose And whistle a happy tune And no one ever knows I'm afraid The result of this deception Is very strange to tell For when I fool the people I fear I fool myself as well

music inspires my life essay

Her whistling is a version of “fake it until you make it.” The cheerful music diverts her mind from her fear so she can act instead with courage. It helps her manage her emotions and act from a more centered position.

Clearly, as research shows and as the pandemic singing and slave songs of old remind us, music can help us deal with whatever life may bring (or throw at) us—whether we whistle, sing, or simply listen, especially if it’s shared with others.

In honor of Fashion Week, The Times asked 10 fashion designers what tunes have aided their creative vision. How would you answer that question? What music inspires you — whether to create things, or to exercise, study, pursue a hobby or just to feel good in general?

In the multimedia piece “Instrumentation as Inspiration,” you can listen to songs by everyone from Maroon 5 to Yo-Yo Ma. Here is what Rebecca Taylor says about the music she chooses:

All of the songs on my list remind me of summertime, in the car driving with the windows down and the music blaring. The songs are optimistic and put you in the mood for a vacation in a tropical place… a bright but laid-back vibe.

And here is what Tracy Reese says:

I like listening to thoughtful, layered, well-crafted songs; both deeply felt and expressed or insanely upbeat and motivating. The creative process of these artists inspires my own creative process, keeping me motivated, and focused on expressing my dreams.

Students: Give us your playlist for inspiration, then tell us why you chose it and what it inspires you to do, think about or fee. How important is music in your daily life in general? Why?

What music inspires me? Well for starters I listen to a wide variety of music. Majority of the time I’ll listen to the lyrics, not just the beat of the song and the lyrics with a story and smart analogies I’ll continue to listen to. I listen to Lupe Fiasco, for example, because his songs hold a complex thought that most people think but I feel are afraid to say.

Different music inspires me during different things. For example, when I exercise I prefer to listen to rock or metal. It gets me pumped up and ready to do something. When I am feeling down I listen to country music which strangley puts me in a better mood. If I am feeling up beat and in a jolly mood I like to listen to new age pop or back in the day pop, such as Prince, Eminem, The Backstreet Boys.

I’m inspired by a lot of different types of music. If I’m studying, or working, I like to listen to soft, indie rock music. However, when I’m exersising, or doing something active, I’d much rather listen to metal. If I’m just trying to put myself in a better mood, then I like to listen to different genres; it just varies. I listen to music all the time, no matter what I’m doing, and I listen to different things depending on how I feel, in general, at that moment.

R&B and Hip-hop inspires me to play my best and helps me focus before a football game. I zone out and get lost in the tunes. I know ima have a good game when i listen to my favorite artist

The music that inspires me is rap when they are taking about them working hard to get where their are at now. Also how much harder you have to work to keep that spot. It really inspires me to work hard to get what I want in life and stay focused on my dreams.

I can listen to just about any type of music to inspire me. It would depend on what type of mood that I’m in. If I’m in a happy mood, then I’ll listen to some type of music that would make me happy. While I’m in a sad mood I listen to a little bit of sad music. If i were excercising I would listen to music that would give me energy.

The music that i listen to the most and the music that i think inspires me the most is country music. I think it is because i grew up listening to it and that is really the only type of music i listen to now that i am older. It doesnt really inspire me to do things its just easier for me to do things when im listening to country music. For example, i work on homework and classwork better and faster when im listening to it and i work better outside or in my house when i have country music on to listen to.

I like to listen to love songs and some faster songs. It all depends on my emotions and how i feel at that moment and time. I can adapt to different type of music just by understanding the meaning and point behind the song

My playlist for insporation consists of a couple different types of music. It ranges from dubstep to R&B to rap, and would have be something i can move or groove to. I am a dancer so when it comes to music i’m able to dance to then dubstep mainly serves its purpose then. When i want to groove to music i look mainly for R&B or rap, but not all rap. When it comes to rap it’d have to be by someone that is very lyrical, and make sense whilst doing so. Also music is very important in my daily life. When i wanna get my day started in a good way i listen to either style of what i listed above.

Music that inspires me, the music that inspires me to get up and pumped is usualy music for rock bands such as Nickleback, Three days Grace, and Theory of a Deadman. When I go to the lake I wake board but after a while I get tired of just riding.Soon as I crank up the song im pumped and ready to go for hours. Songs such as Bottoms up,Riot,Adrenalin, and Move your Body by My Darkest days. They inspire me to get out and get active and to not give up but to move my body. This is what inspires me.

i have several different genres of music that help me. Christian Rock is one of them not a whole lot there is one main band that inspires me. i listen to Heavy metal/Hard Rock which helps me with writing long stories or mowing the lawn and other daily activities. i like to listen to a little bit of rap not a whole lot of just certain people i listen too. music basicaly puts me in a good mood whenever i’ve had a bad day, i just put my headphones in and listen to my Favorite band.

Music is one of the most amazing things on this planet. It covers every emotion that one can think of. I prefer to listen to older music, mostly some sort of rock. I can’t think of a time when their wasn’t some great musician around. The 90’s had nirvana where the 80’s had guns N’ roses. The 70’s with led zeppelin and no one could forget the beatles in the 60’s. I’m very aware that these bands had pointless songs but, sometimes your day feels pretty pointless. Then you hear a song that covers such serious topics. “hunger strike by temple of a dog” is a very emotional song for me or “imagine by john lennon”. Music used the right way could have tenfold the effect of any sort of politcs or war.

I listen to music for many reasons. When i feel down i listen to a song that can pick me up. When im mad i listen to a song that will cool me down. When im driving i listen to something to keep me awake and focused. When im bored i listen to songs that motivates me to do something. Honestly i dont listen to much music, but if i can listen to music then i will. Music isnt the most important thing in my life because im usually in a “neutral” mood and i dont really care to much about music when im feeling neutral.

i like rock as a type of music that inspires me. it pushes me to do better. gives me energy when i am down. some of the music pumps me up before a football game or even baseball. it inspires me to do an extra rep when i am working out. new kinds of music helps me see different things and makes me work harder. rock music really inspires me.

the music that inspires me is country. it tells stories in life that makes me think of how i can do things in life. it also tells what happens when things get bad. how bad they can get and how fast things can change. country music just makes me feel relaxed thats why i love it.

What type of music i listen to? I listen to rap. Rap is the only kind of music i listen to and and little of slow songs. When ever i listen to music it gets me in the zone more so I can focus better. So thats the type of music i listen to.

The music that inspires me is mostly rap and r&b because it helps me focus before a football game and it also help me play harder, make plays that needed to be made on the field.

my music playlists keep me going. if i have a slow day i listen to them and im awake and ready to go. when im driving over several hours it helps me stay focoused on the road. most of my songs are up beat which scientifiicaly proven to enable more brain areas than ball room music or RnB. it keeps mo moving.

I like to listen to Country… its something about it that i love.. when i feel upset or having a bad day i would just turn the rideo on or my iphone and just close my eyes and relax. it really helps me alot.

I listen to many different types of music. I want to listen to a fun uplifting song if im in a good mood. I don’t really like slow sad songs because they make me depressed but if i listen to them it’s because other people are listening to it and i don’t want to be rude and change up on them. I also like to get pumped up before a game too by listening to upbeat stuff just to get my nerves good and calm. I think my favoite kind of music is the fun uplifting songs because im normally always happy and i like to listen to good upbeat songs to keep me in my good mood.

Music keeps the world spinning. The music that inspires me is rap/hip-hop. That is becasue They tell a story. They always have a story behind it. They tell how they got to where they are now. It gets me amped like when I’m about to go out. Also, I like riding with friends, music so loud, you cant even hear them.

Country music is my favorite music I like it because it calms me down, puts me in a good mood, and I have been listen to it since i was little. Another reason i listen to it is i can relate some of the songs to my life.

Rock is the overall genre that inspires me. Rock in my opinion is made for football and that’s why right before a game on Friday night it’s a requirement of mine to listen to some amazing rock bands like Demon Hunter, Killswitch Engage, or Five Finger Death Punch it just gets you pumped and ready to go.

I like to listen to songs that make sense. Some might not make sense, but it might be a symbol or sign of real life. The more I listen to it, the more I get it and the more I get it, then the more I will be creative and inspired. The type of songs I listen to help me think and it also keeps me out the boring spots. It’s so important to me that I don’t think I would be creative without it. You can basically say it’s a part of me.

What Music Inspires You? My musical list consists of fast, upbeat songs, that keep me going! When i’m doing my homework or working on something, I like songs that i can sing to. I listen to anytype of music. I listen to a whole bunch of kid songs, so i can share them with my little cousin. When Im about to play volleyball or a game, i listen to loud music to get me pumped up for it. If music has a good beat to it, im listening to it.!!!!

Role of Music in Our Life Essay

Music is one of the greatest and most mysterious spheres of art, which is worth admiring. It is music that speaking to our heart makes people laughing and crying. Music is one of the strongest means of a persons inspiration and one of the most important part of our life.

It is obvious that like any other form of art music has its own language. Pictorial art speaks with us by means of paints, literature with the help of words, and music by virtue of magic sounds of various musical instruments. All the branches of art are tightly interconnected with each other serving the one goal – to bring up the sense of beauty and harmony in a person.

It goes without saying that every individual is talented in its own way. From early childhood, a person unconsciously tries to express oneself by means of art. Some child may be noticed in a process of painting, while another hums in a low tone his favourite song. It is of great importance to recognize a childs inclinations in order to develop them in a full manner in future.

True art forms an aesthetic sensibility and it is very important to instill in children love for beauty from the cradle. The development of creative potential, nice sense of beauty and possibility to notice something unusual are those factors that help artistic people in creation. The creative approach helps a person in his daily activity. Moreover, the admiration of beauty provides us with additional energy in overcoming difficulties.

Those people who have a sense of beauty are optimists and dreamers in a certain manner. As a rule, they possess qualities that are necessary to be successful in life. That is why it is of great importance to introduce children to the world of music, poetry, pictorial art and literature, because art promotes a childs pursuance of beauty and ideal.

It is also noticed that art education promotes the cognitive development of a child. As a rule those children who attend musical classes have better progress in education.

At the same time, children should not be forced to deal with activity to which they have no propensity. It is a task of parents to recognize a childs inclinations and abilities. There may be found numerous examples when a child who has been compelled to attend music lessons leaves his study, finding himself in another sphere of art. For instance a parent, impressed by a virtuoso guitar technique of his favorite musician, decides for himself to do his best in order his child to become a great guitar player, while his child has inclination for drawing.

There are also examples when a child with an obvious aptitude for music has no desire to attend music lessons. In such a case, motivation plays a very important role. There are many possibilities to cultivate love of art in a child. It is possible to visit an art museum or a concert of classic music. It does not matter if a child pays more attention to the mere process of visit than to an exhibition in itself. The key point of such a visit is to stimulate childish interest. The appreciation of masterpieces in a museum will be later.

While motivating interest for music many teachers pay much attention to concerts, in which a child is involved. They say that a feeling of anxiety before such a concert is changed with a sense of euphoria and satisfaction after a successful playing. This factor serves as a key point in motivation.

It is impossible to imagine our life without art or music. It creates a new world of thoughts, lofty sentiments and passions. It is art that makes us spiritually wealthy.

Roosevelt Review

The Power of Music to Help Change the World (and Me!)

by Paul Wertico, CCPA Associate Professor of Jazz

Wow — it’s sometimes hard to fathom that the year 1968 was half a century ago and at a time when, comparatively speaking, life seemed relatively simple to life as we know it today.

music inspires my life essay

As an avid listener, I’d routinely hear songs on the radio that I liked (either by an artist I knew, or one who was new), and I’d eventually sing along with those songs pretty much whenever I heard them. The lyrics were sometimes audible and distinguishable, and other times only some of them were, in which case I made up the rest of the “lyrics” with whatever words or syllables I felt like singing. Although a song’s sound, groove, harmony and melody were also important to me, singing along with the song was often so much fun that sometimes the “fun part” actually masked the song’s intended meaning; or in certain cases, my life’s experiences and worldly knowledge hadn’t evolved yet to the point where I was able to truly decipher the actual meaning and message of the songs.

When I reflect now on what my life was like as a 15-year-old back in 1968, it makes me realize how much of those songs I actually “heard” and how much I actually “missed.”

Growing up as a white teenager living in the predominantly white suburb of Cary, Illinois, my life was quite different from the various situations and living conditions described in the lyrics of certain songs I listened to. Even though the radio programmers were no doubt primarily interested in whatever songs would appeal to their station’s listeners (and therefore bring in money and advertisers to those stations), knowingly or unknowingly, they also performed a service to the community and to young people like myself by spreading the word and enlightening listeners through certain songs’ insightful and even profound lyrics that portrayed the outside world as a much bigger — and in many cases “badder” — place than my bedroom, my parent’s car, or wherever a radio was playing.

“When I reflect now on what my life was like as a 15-year-old back in 1968, it makes me realize how much of those songs I actually ‘heard’ and how much I actually ‘missed.’”

The styles of music can vary greatly. It takes a discerning listener to classify a particular song, as it may have strains of several music trends. Besides trends, each culture produces its specific music. To me, music is more than just a way to relax and take a break. Music is my companion for life, my indicator of mood, my best adviser, and my own little world. I would never call music a hobby, as I cannot imagine my life without my favorite music. There is a playlist for when I am sad, for when I am happy, for when I am thoughtful, excited, angry, adventurous, or sleepy. Music helps me to cope with the emotions that I experience. Sometimes, music is a way to hide from everything and everyone. Other times, music is the best way to share my feelings with people I care about, or even with complete strangers. Music is the most inspirational phenomena I can think of for a multitude of reasons.

Music is a world of emotions and every time I hear a song I like, it shares some of these emotions with me. Music can bring up the most tender and anxious feelings. It can move you in time and space by bringing back special memories of which you were craving to relish. There were many cases when music sent shivers down my spine, so honest and strong were the tunes, so powerful the memories they awakened. I am sure it happened to everyone at least once, that a strong memory is somehow linked to a certain song or tune and whenever you hear it playing, you travel back to that situation in your thoughts, able to experience that it again (Connors 65). We sometimes forget how powerful music is and how inspirational its power can be.

In addition, music is able unite people like nothing else can (Poplars 45). Sports, mutual interests, and similar experiences can unite people in a substantial way. But what about those cases when people have nothing in common and are total strangers, yet they suddenly find themselves holding hands and singing along, dancing, or simply silently listening to captivating beats. Music is able to make complete strangers feel like they have connected to a kindred soul. If you have at least once been to a great live concert, you probably know what kind of inspiration I am talking about. It is difficult to describe this phenomenon with words, but is it not what proves again the power of music to inspire? You do not need to speak a foreign language to connect to somebody from a different background, using music instead of words. Music comes in handy in these cases. It inspired you to make new friends or learn more about a foreign culture.

Music is multi-dimensional—you can never get bored of it. While I have a number of favorite artists and bands, I also never stop exploring the musical amplitude and discovering new performers every day. Music adds flavor to my life and this flavor is different depending on “what dish I am eating.” Music can be so much more than an accompaniment—it is a full-fledged spice that can accentuate, muffle, or supplement any experience. If I were to leave for a deserted island and could only take a few items, my player and a couple of solar-charging batteries would be my choice. That way, I could adjust to the environment around me and find inspiration where others might find devastation and frustration.

Though music is nothing new, the creation of new melodies, rhythms, and symphonics will be created every day. In fact, I believe music has been around us for as long as we have existed (Lung 24). When I say that music is everywhere, I first of all mean that music comes from nature—the sound of crackling straw in the field, rustling trees in a grove, or the murmur of a fast mountain stream. Music in all of its forms is around us and the task is only to notice it and learn to appreciate how it can be shared. Music can be a source of inspiration for almost anyone, since it can be a unique key to suite any lock, even the most complicated and tenacious. Music has the power to make us want to smile at every stranger walking by, simply because we are hearing a transcendent song.

Importance of music in my life

Music is one of the most important and powerful things in my life. My life without melodies and harmonies would be totally empty. Listening to and playing different tunes helps me to de-stress, relax and it can also help to motivate me in trying times. I love listening to music while on my way to school, as I feel it helps me to prepare for the day that waits. I think it is like the memoirs to my life as it has been there throughout everything with me. When I was younger, I didn’t have the great love for musical as I do now. I mainly listened to whatever was playing in the background or what my parents were listening to. I didn’t have much of a care for musical compositions. There was sometimes a little bit of pop music thrown in to the mix here and there, but that’s really all I liked back then. Whether I was in the car, the house, or anywhere else there was sure to be some Beatles, Buddy Holly, or the Dubliners constantly playing somewhere in the background. At the time I didn’t care for that genre of music much, but now as I’m older, I enjoy it as it allows me to reminisce on memories from times of my childhood. Once I hit my teenage years music became my life and gradually started to inhibit my soul. I believe music has the ability to convey all sorts of emotion. Whether the emotion is joy and happiness or sadness and despair through rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics music shows it. The song “A little bit longer” by Nick Jonas is such an emotional and inspiring song that when I hear it, I always come close to tears, especially when I watch it being played live. The effect that music can have on our emotions is tremendous, as it can bring people to floods of tears or bursts of laughter. The musical images that music and song are able to create are amazing. Music has the ability to transport me back in time just like a time machine. It lets me revisit lost and forgotten moments in life. Songs can paint a picture, for example in classical and country music where a story is being told. The music in classical music tells a story without lyrics which is an immensely powerful thing. I feel that this applies to the saying “music imitates life and life imitates music”. Recently song writing has wandered its way into my life. I believe there is no better way to express myself than through song. After a bad day, it’s nice to be able to sit down and write about it. It can make all your problems just disappear and float away. Listening to other musical artists that I like gives me inspiration. My guitar teacher also points me in the right direction and gives me guidance as I need it. I love to just sit with my guitar and make up random lyrics about past experiences or what I’m going through at the moment. I started learning how to play the guitar last year and within the past few months I have fallen completely and utterly in love with it. Once I start playing, I find it extremely hard to put the guitar down again. It’s very addictive and can also be distracting sometimes. It distracts me from my homework since my guitar sits right next to my desk. Playing guitar is one of the only things in my life in which I don’t feel pressurized to do well in. I think this is because I have a great teacher and she doesn’t push me to the music exams. This past summer my grandma taught me how to play the piano. I had always heard stories about how my great grandfather, her father, was brilliant at the piano. He would sit at the piano for hours on end playing different well known songs as making up his own little tunes. He had taught my grandma how to play and I felt it was about time that I learnt. So when I was staying with my grandma and grandpa during the summer, I asked her to teach me. She was delighted to and now it’s something nice that we can both do together and bond over. I believe music effects people in many different ways. To me music is more than just something to listen to or play, it’s something to feel. Music is extremely important in my life. I think it brings me closer to my friends and family. I also feel that it helps me to get through things. For example, I remember doing the twenty six kilometre gaisce hike and the whole way along the hike we sang songs. Music is an immensely powerful thing and has a huge place in my life right next to my heart.

Music In My Life Essay

Essay about music is an amazing topic , which will help you to disclose your writing skills and make your music essay perfect and interesting.

What is music? What does it mean for each of us? What part does it play in our lives, destinies, in the formation of our character and inner world? We get into the world of music and magic sounds from the very first days of our life. The first lullaby, sung by our mother, the first musical toy, which was carefully hanging over the crib and playing a pleasant melody. However, our childhood ends and our naïve dreams are going away. But the thing that stays in our life is music. It continues to accompany us everywhere, filling us with joy, giving cheerfulness and fun, or, conversely, plunging into the world of romantic dreams. Nice music always brings only positive emotions, and, therefore, it makes life more beautiful. Even sad melody carries some mysterious force, helping to open up our hearts, our innermost thoughts, desires, experiences, which having turned into a melody, can easily leave the depths of the heart, leaving only light and pleasant memories.

Music is created not only to entertain people, it has a tremendous impact on them, seeking to make them better. The art, including music, wouldn’t have been so great and well recognized in the whole world if it was not aimed at the hearing delight, without an aim of expressing people’s state of mind and soul. Music inspires us to actions, helps to understand what is happening to us, to know ourselves. Music uplifts us and makes more perfect. When we feel some strong emotion - be it joy or sadness, anxiety or happiness - we involuntarily begin to hum a tune or song. Why? Because music, like nothing else in the world, music reflects our mood. Music reminds us of what is currently the basis of our feelings, emotions, dreams , aspirations, it gives us the best, lofty thoughts, faith in something good, clean and bright. It inspires a person to think deeply.

Of course, in our time, there are pieces of music designed only to entertain, works that do not contain any specific ideas or meanings that do not carry the harmony and beauty. Still, such products are not numerous. According to Wikipedia, not only classic but also modern music , modern pop songs contain certain feelings and experiences of the author, in which each of us is sure to find something close to him. After all, music not only reflects our joy, but sometimes sorrow and suffering.

Music accompanies man throughout his life. It's hard to imagine life without music. Such a life would be empty, poor, bleak, uninteresting, meaningless. Music can evoke kindness, tenderness and many other positive traits of character that can make each of us a better person. This means that the music can revive, exalt man to approach him for moral perfection.
