[Discussion] Is Nitrotype helps you to make more progress in typing speed?

Hi, I see people who raced a lot (Thousands races) but their average speed still low like 50 or 60!

Which made me to think, Nitrotype system makes people handling it as a game not a tool to increase your typing speed. As you know Nitrotype is flashy, and due to this, my guess is people are concentrating on winning the race and using Nitros to be 1st places and collecting money to buy cars... not to improve their typing speed!

Let me know your thoughts? Is Nitrotype a good place to increase and practice on your typing speed? or it's just a game? or people misuse it? Does it make you trapped in a certain speed level without more progress?

Introduction

Nitro Type is an online typing game that helps players improve their typing speed and accuracy while having fun. The game provides a competitive environment where players race against each other, using their typing skills to control their cars on the racetrack. Whether you are new to the game or a seasoned player looking to enhance your gameplay, here are three ways to play Nitro Type.

1. Practice Mode

For beginners, Nitro Type offers a practice mode where you can enhance your typing skills without competing with others. This mode is perfect for those who are still building their confidence in typing and want to focus on improving their speed and precision.

To play in practice mode, simply log in to your Nitro Type account and select the ‘Practice’ option from the main menu. This will lead you to various texts that will help you practice your typing skills. As you progress, the difficulty of the texts will increase, allowing you to continue building your expertise.

2. Compete with Friends

One of the most enjoyable aspects of Nitro Type is racing against friends. To do this, log in to your Nitro Type account and go to the ‘Race’ option from the main menu. From there, you can create a race and invite friends by sharing a unique race link with them.

When all racers have joined, the game will begin with a countdown timer. As each player completes the given text, their car will advance along the racetrack. The first one to finish typing wins the race.

This approach not only helps improve typing skills but also fosters friendly competition among friends that keeps everyone engaged and motivated.

3. Join Online Tournaments

If you want to experience even more intense competition while playing Nitro Type, consider participating in online tournaments. Online tournaments pit skilled typists from across the globe against each other to find out who has the fastest fingers.

To join an online tournament, log in to your Nitro Type account and navigate to the ‘Tournaments’ option from the main menu. The list of available tournaments and their corresponding ranks will appear, allowing you to choose which competition to join.

By participating in these tournaments, you’ll sharpen your typing skills under high-pressure situations and get a chance to win exciting prizes, such as in-game currency, exclusive cars, or even real-life rewards.

In summary, Nitro Type offers an entertaining platform where players can improve their typing speed and accuracy through various game modes. Whether practicing solo, racing with friends, or joining online tournaments, there are ample opportunities for typists of all skill levels to enjoy and excel in Nitro Type. NitroType – A great way to engage students

nitroracing

Like anything there are always improvements that can be made and Nitrotype is no different.  The game can freeze up your web browser occasionally due to all the scripting that runs in the background powering the site.  I have found this is the most problematic running in Firefox.  The best fix is to completely close out the web browser and relaunch to start racing again.  I would like to see the game tweak the cars so that they have a unique ability.  Things like ability to hold an additional nitro, a one second head start, etc.  This would add another layer to the game that would help some of my slowest typist complete with my better typist.  The last thing to be aware is Nitrotype does not have a practice or instruction section.  This site is intended for students that have had basic instruction in typing.

pro

Nitrotype is a well balance game that completely engages students.  About 85% of my students choose to work on Nitrotype at home on their own.  That is probably the best measure of a sites popularity.   Nitrotype pushes students to improve their typing speed while maintaining the importance of accuracy.   If you have been looking for a site to move your students typing to the next level, Nitrotype is the place.

As always, share your comments below.

You might not think typing to Alexa is practical, but you’d be surprised

“Hey, Alexa …” might be one of the most-used phrases in your household, but there are times when shouting at your smart assistant just isn’t practical. If you’re in bed beside a sleeping spouse, or you’re holding a baby you just managed to settle down, the last thing you want to do is wake them. The good news is that you can now text Alexa on iOS, thanks to an update to the app.

How to use Type with Alexa

Why type instead of speak, type with alexa means peace and quiet.

The feature is loosely called “ Type with Alexa ” and is currently in a public preview — basically an unofficial beta. When you open the messaging feature, users receive this notice: “By the way, typing with me is part of a public preview, so I’m still getting the hang of it!” In other words, you might run into a glitch or two.

It may seem a bit silly, but there’s a lot of practicality to be found in texting Alexa .

The feature is easy to access; in fact, you might have already seen the menu without realizing it. From the main Alexa screen, look in the upper-left corner for an icon that looks like a keyboard. Tap that to open the text menu.

Once it’s open, type in a command — any command. You can type “turn off all the lights” or something simple like “ play jazz. ” If you provide a command to your smart home, Alexa will respond without a second thought. If you tell Alexa to play jazz, she will ask several questions before starting, such as which of three artists you want to hear.

In addition to performing typed commands, you can use this feature as a sort of search bar within the app. For example, if you type in the word “Skills,” the app will suggest several different categories, including Smart Home Skills, Discover Skills & Games, Alexa Blueprints, Games & Trivia Skills, and Kids Skills.

If you type “Music,” the feature provides several results including Entertainment, Manage Music & Podcasts, and Music & Audio Skills. You can also open the Settings menu for individual Echo devices this way.

You can even ask Alexa to tell you a joke and she will , though the delivery might fall a bit flat via texting.

Aside from the examples laid out above — not waking the baby or a spouse — there is another big reason why some users will enjoy this feature versus speaking: Privacy. It’s possible to keep your Echo microphone disabled at all times.

Under normal circumstances, this would limit the utility of the smart assistant. With the ability to type commands, you can keep your microphone off while still utilizing the speaker and display functionality of Echo devices.

You can use Alexa as a hub for your smart home, play music throughout the house, and even display recipes, all without speaking to the device and potentially compromising your security .

Texting to Alexa also has applications for those with disabilities. People who cannot speak can use the feature to communicate with their smart home and reap the benefits of Alexa with no need for vocal commands.

There’s no word yet on when the Type With Alexa feature will be officially released, or when it will come to Android . The feature has garnered a lot of attention for its utility, so it is highly likely it will launch on other platforms at some point in the future.

There are several reasons I have relied heavily on this feature since discovering it. The first is that I am not a fan of having devices that feature smart assistants in the bedroom. A wayward beep to inform that a package has been delivered or an alert from Alexa for some other reason can be a nuisance when you’re trying to sleep. Being awakened from a dead sleep by a smart assistant makes one question how “smart” the devices truly are.

With that in mind, I do not have an Alexa in my bedroom, but I do have smart lights. At the end of the day, when I’m lying in bed, the last thing I want to do is shout for the nearest Alexa (the Echo Show in the kitchen ) to hear me, nor do I want to scroll through menus when I’m half-asleep to turn off the light.

The second reason is much the same. When I’m comfortable and drowsy, I don’t want to speak. Typing to Alexa is a wordless way to seize control of the home. The final reason came up during a bout with COVID-19 , when I barely had energy to move around the house — and speaking aloud would send me into a coughing fit. The feature allowed for control of the home (and access to other Alexa features) without the need to speak.

Advancement in smart features will pave the way to a better smart home, but sometimes basic features like Type With Alexa are welcome additions with benefits that go beyond the obvious.

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, which can often make things a little stressful on the wallet. The holidays don’t have to break the bank, however, as there are a lot of great tech options available for under $100. These include some surprises like tablets and Keurig coffee makers, but they also include more common items to fall below the $100 price tag. We’ve rounded up all of the best gifts under $100, so read onward for more details on how to save on some tech for somebody you care about this holiday season. Amazon Echo Show 5 (3rd Gen) — $40, was $90

While the Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen) was a popular smart display, the third generation Amazon Echo Show 5 is the newest Echo Show on the market. We also think it’s one of the best smart displays you can buy. With this smart display you’re able to stream your favorite music, shows, podcasts, and more from providers like Amazon Music, Spotify, and Prime Video. It’s the perfect assistant around the house, giving you easy access to your calendars and reminders, daily recipe ideas, timers, lists, and news and traffic updates. The Echo Show 5 can also sync with compatible video doorbells to display what’s going on at your front door on its screen. I also has a built-in camera of its own that’s great for video calls.

Alexa is one of the most popular smart assistants, and this month it's becoming even more useful. Just in time for the holidays, Amazon has rolled out three new features to assist with your trips to the grocery store.

One of the coolest new features allows you to scan your handwritten shopping list and instantaneously convert it to an Amazon Shopping list. After opening the Alexa app and heading to the Shopping List menu, simply press the Scan button to start the process.

What Is Nitro Type?

Nitro Type is an online typing game. The faster you type the paragraph, the faster your car. The first to cross the finish line wins.

alexa do my homework nitro type

Nitro Type is a game designed to help people improve their keyboard typing. Each player has a racing car and the faster they type, the quicker their car and the better their chances of winning.

Created by Teaching.com , Nitro Type has been around since 2011 and supposedly has over 40,000,000 users—though, bear in mind, there are probably a lot of bots, duplicated accounts, and inactive accounts.

Nitro Type is actively updated with new features, stickers, cars, racetracks, and events to keep users engaged.

How Does Nitro Type Work?

The gist of Nitro Type is that the faster you type, the faster your car goes. In each race, you are given a paragraph of text to type. However, when you make a mistake, the letter turns red and you must retype it which can slow you down in the race.

Each race is up to five competitors per game, though you can also race against fewer with the lowest per game being two. Nitro Type calculates your WPM (words per minute) and accuracy (out of 100%) as you type.

In the end, WPM is a more crucial factor for winning. If you aim for 100% accuracy, this can mean typing slower than everyone else as it slows down your WPM because you must focus more. But accuracy is still important as the fewer mistakes you make, the quicker you can type.

You can change how the paragraph appears as you type. Either as a single line or multiple lines. If you choose multiple, you may find it easier as you can see the text that is coming up. It’s up to you. Also, note that sometimes you can get the same paragraph in another race.

There is also an option to turn off sound at the top left. Music and effects you can turn on or off, both, one or the other or neither

There are challenges too. For example, playing 100 games in one sitting and you can win unique cars and other rewards around accuracy and speed.

To be truly good at Nitro Type, you need to utilize your entire hand otherwise you may struggle to keep up with the other players. Confidence is also a factor—when you type well early on, it can give you a motivational boost for the rest of the race.

A great way to learn more about the game is to watch it in action. YouTuber ChiefOranssi played 100 games of Nitro Type and it gives you a good sense of how it all works.

How Do Points Work in Nitro Type?

Points, otherwise known as experience, or EXP, are earned by racing. Players level up each time they gain 20,000 points and can win rewards. Each season there are new rewards to win such as titles, stickers, trails, and cars. These are usually thematic.

Points and levels only last for the season and are reset at the beginning of the next season. Before July 2020, players had cumulative experience—experience gained over the entirety of their gaming.

2016 press release explains how points work in Nitro Type, it states :

The current algorithm for how many points you earn in a single race is: (100 + (wpm / 2)) * acc %. So if you finished a race at 40wpm and 95% accuracy, it’d be (100 + (40/2)) * .95, which would come to 114 points.”

Teams also gain points for the number of races they win which increases their rankings on the leaderboard.

How to Get and Use Nitros?

Nitro allows you to skip a word but only one Nitro can be used per race. You can use nitro by pressing enter/return. In the past, the rules were very different, and users could even sell nitros to each other.

It’s important to know when to use nitro. Using nitro towards the end of a race to pass first place can make you a winner. However, it is most effective to use nitro on a long or difficult word than on a short or easy word, which could be a bit of a waste.

Certain achievements can be won by using a certain number of nitros. These unlock titles like “Word Skipper” and “I Love Nitros.”

Do Cars Matter in Nitro Type?

Yes and no. Collecting and racing a variety of different cars in Nitro Type can be fun. Some cars are valuable and can only be obtained by completing certain goals, but they don’t make you a faster racer—that is all down to how you type.

Cars can come in all shapes and sizes, some of the more unique vehicles aren’t even cars but rockets and other flying vehicles. Some of the more interesting vehicles include the Batmobile, love heart car, hotdog car, and hoverbike.

How to Sell Cars in Nitro Type?

Since 2021, players can’t sell cars on Nitro Type. In the past, players could buy and sell their cars via the Dealership, but this has been replaced with the Item Shop. There have been rumors that Nitro Type may bring back the Dealership in the future.

How to Get Rid of Cars in Nitro Type?

Unfortunately, you cannot remove any cars from your garage in Nitro Type. Before, players could get rid of their cars by selling them back to the dealership at a lower price. It is also not possible to trade or give away cars to friends.

What Is the Rarest Car in Nitro Type?

According to Charlie Green of Game Rant , the 10 rarest cars are:

  • Liberty 41 Woodie Sunshine
  • Holiday Hero
  • Konirra Au79
  • Candy Hauler
  • The Wild 500
  • 8-bit racer
  • NASA Shuttle
  • Hang Fifteen
  • Track o’ Lantern

Many of these vehicles were only available for special events.

What Is the Wampus in Nitro Type?

The Wampus is one of the most challenging bots in the Nitro Type game. It races alongside regular players. If you beat The Wampus, you get rewarded with 50,000 nitro dollars

How Fast Is The Wampus in Nitro Type?

alexa do my homework nitro type

100 WPM based on The Wampus’s account , we can assume that it keeps to this speed, so if you can type faster than this you can beat The Wampus. You can also find out more about The Wampus from the Nitro Type wiki .

How to Find The Wampus in Nitro Type?

You can never be sure if The Wampus will join a race, it is completely random. When a race is finding players, The Wampus will be the last to join. The more you play, the more likely you are to come across The Wampus.

Can You Get The Wampus in Nitro Type?

You cannot win or buy The Wampus’s signature ‘Wampus’ car. The only other car The Wampus has is the ‘Liberty Model H’ which is only obtainable as a gold member at 2,000,000 nitro dollars.

How Do Teams Work in Nitro Type?

Teams can have special requirements to join, such as to complete a certain number of races or a certain number of races per day. For example, the team eRacers has a minimum skill requirement of competing in 500 races and a minimum WPM of 30.

There are Team captains and officers and there are stats on their members, races, and points won. When you join a team, it appears in front of the name of the racer. You can see the top 100 teams on the Nitro Type leaderboard .

How to Join a Team in Nitro Type?

If you suit their requirements, you can head over to the team’s page and apply. You’ll then have to wait until the team leader accepts or rejects you.

Is Nitro Type Educational?

Arguably Nitro Type is more competitive than educational, but kids and teenagers can improve their typing skills and learn new words.

Nitro Type’s website claims that “By using Nitro Type just 20 minutes every week, the average user improves their typing by 34%.” However, this sounds like an exaggeration—too much improvement in a brief time. By this logic, you could become one of the world’s fastest typers very quickly. You’d have more than 100% improvement in about an hour.

Teaching.com, the company that created Nitro Type, claims to have over a million races a day on Nitro Type, so there is almost always someone for kids to race against.

Here are several of Nitro Types’ features and benefits Teaching.com promotes to schools.

alexa do my homework nitro type

Teaching.com also offers Typing.com , a free online typing tutor. It’s a more serious spin on Nitro Type as it focuses purely on typing with no gaming elements involved.

Just like Nitro Type, Typing.com also calculates WPM and accuracy. Arguably, teachers may prefer Typing.com for their students over Nitro Type and it could be seen as a better alternative for younger children who are still learning how to type.

Nitro Type Accounts

There are three primary account types on Nitro Type—standard accounts, Nitro Gold, and teacher accounts.

How to Make a Nitro Type Account?

To make a standard account in Nitro Type, click “Get Started” on the Nitro Type homepage . You can also create an account with Google, Clever, or Facebook.

When creating an account, you need to create a username and password and then re-enter that password. Adding an email is optional but advised if you ever lose access to your account.

After that, you’ll do a qualifying race. The idea of this is to gauge your typing speed so you will then race against players with similar skills. You then get to choose a starter car and you can start racing.

Can You Chat on Nitro Type?

You can have friends on Nitro Type, but you are not allowed to chat with one another. There are only pre-determined phrases that you can send. This is to protect the children and schools that use Nitro Type.

You can click on people’s profiles and see their level and ranking (team and personal), total WPM and average WPM, and all the cars they have collected.

How to Delete Nitro Type Account?

To delete a personal account on Nitro Type, you will need to contact support and request its deletion. From the support drop-down menu complete the contact form requesting that support delete your account. If they do not get back to you, you can reach out to them via email.

Admins can also delete accounts from the admin portal by going to the “Manage Users” and then “Active Users.” When you have found the user you want to delete, click the three dots, and select “Delete User.”

There will then be a 30-day period where the account can be recovered, after which the account will be permanently deleted.

How Much Is Nitro Type Gold and Is It Worth It?

alexa do my homework nitro type

According to the Nitro Wiki , there are four Nitro Gold tiers:

  • $9.99 – 1 Year Nitro Gold
  • $11.98 – 1 Year Nitro Gold + 4,000,000 nitro dollars
  • $24.98 – 1 Year Nitro Gold + 40,000,000 nitro dollars
  • $49.98 – 1 Year Nitro Gold + 120,000,000 nitro dollars

Nitro Gold is probably not worth it if you’re only looking to improve your typing speed. Most of the rewards for claiming Nitro Gold are superficial, such as a gold trail when you race, The Xcelsior V12 car, the “Solid Gold” title, and a golden sticker.

The biggest benefit of Nitro Gold is the removal of ads which not only makes the experience more enjoyable and keeps you more focused but improves your internet bandwidth which will help you play more accurately.

Does Nitro Type Have an App?

Nitro Type is strictly a browser game, so there is no mobile Nitro Type app, but you can play it on your phone or tablet. This has been the case since the launch of Nitro Type 2.0, which was released in April 2015.

However, similar apps are available for phones and tablets. Though, as you can guess, typing on a device without a conventional keyboard will be a vastly different experience.

alexa do my homework nitro type

Interestingly, a press release from 2016 announced that Nitro Type was working on a “Nitro Type Companion App,” however, there has been no news since.

Nitro Type Guide & Tips

General Tips

Here are some additional tips:

How to type faster

Typing fast requires lots of practice. You can’t wake up one day and start typing 100 Words Per Minutes with no practice. It takes many months, and possibly years to gain this skill. If you want to improve your typing in the least amount of time, the easiest way to do so is to use a typing program. These programs will offer you countless hours of things to type, ranging from simple home-row key practice, to learning all the symbols and numbers. Though there are many websites that teach how to type, Typing.com is by far the best free program out there. Nitro Type is also a wonderful place to improve your typing. In fact, Nitro Type improved my typing speed by more than  75 Words per Minute! Combine the two programs, and you’ll soon find your fingers flying across the keyboard with ease.

When learning to type faster, always make sure to pay attention to your accuracy. Try not to let it fall below 97%. A good typist is not only fast, but also extremely accurate.

Don’t get frustrated when you are having a bad typing day or can’t seem to improve. Stay calm, take a few deep breaths, and continue your practicing. Learning to type can be difficult at first, but as you get faster, you’ll find it getting easier and easier.

How to activate (use) a nitro

Hit the ENTER key. This will lower your speed slightly, until you can do it quickly and efficiently. Try to only use nitros on long or difficult words. That way you can skip right over them and easily keep your typing rhythm. Nitros are a fantastic way to get to a better position in a race, and to raise your win percentage.

How to rearrange your cars using a mobile device

Touch and hold down on the car you wish to move. Once you’ve selected that car, take your finger off the car and tap on the garage space you’d like to move it to.

How to get the Zonday Tricolore, Wisker Electric, and Auttie R-8.1

Wisker Electric

Auttie R-8.1

Claim your daily mystery box reward (in your garage, under your exp. bar) every time it’s ready. The prizes are completely random, but eventually you should earn one of these cars. Many people have collected their daily rewards ever since the rewards system was implemented, and still have not gotten any of these cars. However, some have attained one of them within their first few times of claiming their reward! So, there are no guarantees as to when you’ll earn one of these amazing cars – just keep logging on every day to claim your mystery box reward, and eventually you’ll get lucky!

All About Alt Accounts

Alt accounts, or “alternative accounts”, are basically different accounts that you own, which are less used than your main account. Sometimes using the same account over and over again gets a bit boring, so many people create another 1 or more accounts. Also, many people want to own more than 1 team, and so they create another account, bring it up to level 20, and create a second team.

Changing your display name

If you want to change your Nitro Type name, click on the “My Profile” link, which is right under the “Log Out” link. Under “My Racer Profile”, you will see a field where you can put in your new name. Note that inappropriate names will result in your account being banned, so be careful about what you change your name to! Before updating your racer profile, make sure to read the text under the “Display Name” field. Once you are ready, and are sure you want to change your display name, click the “Update Racer Profile” button.

If you want to save your previous display name so that no one can take it, put it on an alt account. This way, if you decide to use your old name again, you won’t have to worry about it being taken.

General Friends Page Tips

In the friends search at the top of your friends page, you can search up anyone on Nitro Type, even those with fancy characters in their name. Either copy and paste their name in the search bar, or search their sign up name. For example, my Nitro Type name is ②Muɔɥ②§↻↻∩. You can either copy and paste that into the friends search, or search up my sign up name, which is yun13retnau. Either method will bring up my account. This is a great way to find new friends, or simply browse other users on Nitro Type!

If you try to search up the account you are currently using, it will not come up. You have to either be logged out, or on a different account. For example: if I am logged into my ②Muɔɥ②§↻↻∩ account and search “yun13retuau”, my account will not come up. However, if I’m logged on to an alt account or am simply logged out, and search “yun13retnau”, my ②Muɔɥ②§↻↻∩ account will show up.

There is a limit to how many friends you can have on Nitro Type. For non-gold members, the limit is 200, not including team mates. For gold members the limit is 300, again, not including teammates. Just another sweet benefit of being gold!
