Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan has been launched by the government to end female feticide.

The condition of girls in Indian society has been the subject of controversy for a long time. Most people think that a girl must do household work. She should be inside the home. It has been happening since ancient times.

There is a massive disparity between men and women in our society. They are treated moderately from home to outside the workplace. Women have proved that they are no less than men if they get appropriate opportunities and facilities. But, even after decades of independence, the social respect that women should get has not been achieved.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a scheme which means ‘save the girl child’ and educate her. The scheme was launched by the Indian government on 22 January 2015 to create awareness for the girl child and to work towards female welfare.

The people were made aware of the campaign by organizing some activities like big rails, wall writing, TV commercials, hoardings, short animations, video films, essay writing, debates, etc. The campaign has support from many government and non-government institutions.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is an important pen to improve the life of daughters of the country and to write the future of our country, which will bring a very safe environment for the coming generations.

This campaign has been greatly encouraged by people from every section of society. There are many houses or families in our community where girls don’t get respect and face discrimination everywhere. Girls do not get the status and respect they deserve in the family.

Girls are also not given the right to keep their side in their own family. Girls are treated like objects, who feel affection, love, and affection, just like a dream. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign’s motive is to eliminate all these evils and to improve the thinking of society.

It has seen a decrease in the female infant sex ratio in India to a large extent. Female feticide started after the discovery of ultrasound technology in the country. It has taken the form of a big monster due to gender discrimination and inequality for girls.

It took the form of anxiety when a rapid reduction in the female sex ratio was observed after the 1991 national census. After the 2001 national census, it was discussed as a big social event. Still, the decrease in the female population continued till 2011 when this practice was strictly banned by the government to control the ratio of female infants.

Why is Beti Bachao Abhiyan necessary?

There have been many incidents in this world, which proved women are not only equal to men in every field but are also ahead of them. Out of these, we have discussed some things below –

Girls are getting the first rank in every area, and they do their best in every field. Since 1961 female feticide is a crime and banned to prevent abortions after sex tests. Everyone should follow these rules and make every effort to save the girls.

Girls are more obedient, less violent, and less arrogant than boys. So each one of us should understand our responsibilities towards girls. A girl performs her domestic duties as well as her professional duties in a perfect way that makes them more special than boys.

The government took some significant steps to save and educate girls.

Training of new women entrepreneurs.
Community dynamics and sensitization.
Sexual support participation.
We are awarding awards and recognition to leading activists and organizations.
Monitoring of Implementation of Prejudice and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994.
Increase in institutional deliveries.
Birth registration of children.
We are strengthening PNDT cells.
Establishment of monitoring committees.
Universal enrollment of girls.
We are reducing the dropout rate of girls’ studies.
We are encouraging friendly behavior with girls in schools.

Purpose of Beti Bachao Abhiyan:

The fundamental objective of this mission is to prevent gender-biased behavior and to ensure the survival and protection of the girl child. This campaign has raised the voice against female feticide. Girls can be given equal rights in this society through this campaign.

We need to act to bring change on things like hatred for daughters, trying to kill them in the womb. We should respect and love her for making a good society and a country. She is an equal participant in the development of the country like boys.

People should not take Beti Bachao Abhiyan as a subject; it is a social awareness issue that we need to take seriously. People should save and respect girls because they have the power to build the whole world. It is equally essential for the development and growth of any country.

Role of Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao initiative

They launched this Scheme on 22nd January 2015 to create awareness for girl, child and women at large. This campaign is consisting of activities such as Rallies, Wall paintings, Television commercials, billboards, short animations, video filming, essay writing, and debates to promote GC in a big way.

It involves creating awareness by celebrities campaign by NGO and Non-NGO’s in India. This has generated high awareness among the public.

Schemes promoting Save Girl Child in India

To promote Girl Child, the Central government had started many programs like Sabla Scheme in 2011 to empower adolescent girls through education, Dhanalakshmi scheme 2008 to provide cash transfer to the family of girl child after birth, registration, and immunization, Kishore Shakti Yojana to improve the nutritional & health condition of adolescent girls.

Sukanya Samridhi Yozana for ensuring fair share by the family towards the GC. To protect the girl child, Ladli scheme was launched by the Delhi & Haryana governments for controlling female feticide and improving education and equal gender rights.

Ms. Priyanka Chopra, Bollywood actor, joined Sun Foundation’s campaign and became its brand ambassador to spread the message of “save the girl child”. The Foundation wants to take this social awareness campaign to schools and Residents Welfare Associations. Sun Foundation launched its first Mobile Van for Save The Girl Child Campaign on 20th Jan 2012 at Malviya Nagar amidst gathering of 800 people. The Van was inaugurated by Prof Kiran Walia, Hon’ble Minister Women & Child and Social Welfare and flagged by Padmashri Vikramjit Singh Sahney, President Sun Foundation. A walk for Save The Girl Child was carried out at Malviya Nagar, New Delhi. Films on Save The Girl Child were screened and Street Theatre was conducted.

World Girl Child Day

On 24th Jan 2012 the World Girl Child Day , Govt of Delhi ,Women and Child Department and Sun Foundation launched a campaign on Save The Girl Child. The campaign was launched by Smt Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister Delhi State, Prof Kiran Walia, Hon’ble Minister Women and Child and Social Welfare along with Padma Shri Vikramjit Singh Sahney. The event was held at Talkatora Stadium amidst a gathering of 4000 women and girls from Delhi State. As part of the “Save The Girl Child Campaign” of Sun Foundation , a 10 km run was organized by IIM Rohtak and Sun Foundation on 19TH Feb 2012 in Rohtak. About 4000 people participated in the run. Priyanka roots for the girl child

Expressing concern over the fact that female foeticide continues to take place in urban and rural parts of the country, Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra on Saturday urged couples not to go in for abortion when they find out that they are soon to become parents of a baby girl. Launching the “Save a Girl Child” campaign in the Capital, Ms. Chopra said: “Today I have a lot of things to say and I am overwhelmed with feelings. After watching a documentary on the need to save the girl child, I am wondering what if my parents had decided not to have me in this world. I would not have been able to achieve whatever fame and accolades I have been honoured with. It is sad and shocking that even in the 21 {+s} {+t} Century the girl child is being killed even before being born.”

Stating that her parents always believed that she could accomplish everything that any boy can, Ms. Chopra said: “Earlier I thought that female foeticide was occurring only in rural areas of the country. But this is not the case as even couples in urban areas go in for pre-natal sex determination with the intention of preventing female births. My mother, a gynaecologist, has always urged couples not to go in for abortion if they find that they are about to have a baby girl. Unfortunately in our country the moment a doctor informs that it is a girl child, her fate is sealed.”

Sun Foundation head Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who has produced a two-minute documentary and a public interest message delivered by Ms. Chopra on the need to save the girl child, lamented that with modern medical technologies within easy reach, selective abortion and sex selection are becoming quite common.

Despite laws banning tests to determine the sex of an unborn child, the killing of female foetuses continues in some regions of India where a preference for sons runs deep.

In most parts of India, sons are viewed as breadwinners, who will look after their parents and carry on the family name, but daughters are viewed as financial liabilities for whom they will have to pay substantial dowries to get married off.

essay writing sample on child marriage the legal age for marriage in india is 18 years for girls and 21 for boys. any marriage of a person younger than this is banned under the child marriage prevention act, 1929. it is an incontrovertible fact that a large number of child marriages are performed in violation of the existing provisions of the law, particularly on ‘akha teej’ or ‘akshaya tritiya’. when child marriage takes place, the children are too young to understand what marriage means. it is true that there is a large body of social opinion and customary practice that sanctions early marriage. it is a religious tradition in many places in india and therefore difficult to change. the dire consequences that follow child marriage, particularly for girls are – the child’s education is sacrificed, girls become more vulnerable to domestic violence and due to early pregnancies their health gets much worse. the babies born to girls under 16 are more likely to die during their first year of life. unicef describes child marriage as a “gross violation of all categories of child rights.” it is a social evil that has degraded the status of girl child in our society. child marriage is against the law but the marriage itself is valid once performed, even if the child was as young as 5 years at the time. police cannot make arrests without applying for a magistrate’s order. the present provision for simple imprisonment for 3 months and a fine has proved totally inadequate. to stop this menace, the law must make registration of all marriages mandatory. stringency of punishment is the next important element in the strategy to tackle this menace. the appointment of anti-child marriage officers in every state, and making it a law that anyone who attends a child marriage has to report it, would help in checking child marriage.
