ClickUp is a big contender to Notion so, of course, I had to see the hype for myself. I didn’t find the app extremely intuitive to use, but I did like the ability to customize my Home dashboard. In addition to my tasks and events, I liked that I could add reminders, lists, and custom “cards”.

Trello is a popular project management tool due to its drag-and-drop Kanban style view. But Trello easily serves as task manager as well! Just assign each task to a card and use the checklist feature inside each card to further break down that task into subtasks.

Before I moved everything into Notion, Trello was my go-to online planner app. I used it to help me develop new products, resources, and sales campaigns. Trello even housed my editorial calendar for both my blog and newsletter.

I loved Trello and was sad to leave! Mostly because I adored the visual nature of the boards and cards. If I ever left Notion, Trello would be the siren song that called me back. I think it’s so simple and easy to use. You don’t need to undergo an extensive onboarding process, and you’ll instantly feel more organized once you add a few boards to your workspace.

But I think it’s worth it!

This app has quickly become my favorite calendar app , especially since it integrates so well with Notion. (FYI: you’ll need a pro account to unlock this integration). While I plan my week in Notion, I work from my daily schedule in Morgen. I love seeing all my daily routines, events, and tasks in one place. And I can easily drag and drop blocks whenever my schedule changes.

With its unified task management, smart scheduling, time blocking, calendar integration, collaborative workspaces, and personalized insights, Sunsama is an excellent tool for entrepreneurs.

It has a clean, simple design and intuitive productivity layouts. It allows for email management and time tracking right within the app. With a few clicks, you can have guided daily planning, pulling from your connected calendars.

You can also drag and drop tasks from other planning apps, like Todoist, Trello, and Notion!

What You’ll Love about Sunsama

• Collaboration Features : You can collaborate among teams with features like shared task lists, real-time updates, and the ability to assign tasks and deadlines to team members.

How Much Does Sunsama Cost?

Sunsama is one of the pricier planner apps, coming in at $20/month. So, you want to be sure this planner app is the right choice before you commit! At this time, there is no free version, but you can sign up for a free 14-day trial if you’d like to take it for a spin.

Sunsama actually reached out to me and asked if I would try their app. When I first logged on, I immediately thought this was a mix of Trello and Morgen Calendar. I enjoyed seeing a Kanban-style view of my weekly tasks alongside my daily schedule and I liked the ability to drag and drop tasks into my calendar. However, I don’t think I loved the app enough to pay $20/month for it.

7. GoodNotes

GoodNotes is technically more of a notetaking app; however, I’m including it in this list because you can import your favorite PDF printables or digital planner templates into this app, resulting in a digital planner that closely resembles a paper one!

All you need is a tablet, a stylus, the Goodnotes app , and your chosen files. Then, you can customize this planner with endless options for digital stickers, washi, and more. Easily add, delete, or rearrange sections of your notebooks, and combine different parts of different planners to create your ultimate planning system.

What You’ll Love about Goodnotes

• User-friendly interface : Goodnotes tools and options are easy to access and intuitive.
• Extensive Templates and Layouts : Etsy offers hundreds of premade templates and themes for all kinds of planner styles that are easy to access and use. But the best deal is to grab a Brainbook Library All-Access Pass so you can pick and choose from over 250 planner designs to create your dream setup.
• Wide Range of Decorative Elements : Purchase digital washi tape and stickers to add flair to your planner pages.
• Ability to Record Audio Notes: Instead of only text notes, you can record voice clips to enhance your note-taking or journaling.
• Integration with Digital Pens for Natural Handwriting : Digital pens like the Apple Pencil work seamlessly with this program.

Unlike other planner apps, Goodnotes doesn’t act like a true digital planner. So you won’t see recurring tasks populate on certain days of the week, for instance.

This app is specifically for those who don’t want to carry around a paper planner but love the idea of “duplicating” their paper planner in a digital format, where they don’t have to worry about planner supplies taking up excess space. It’s a solid front-runner in the cute planner apps field!

How Much Does Goodnotes Cost?

Goodnotes charges a $29.99 one-time fee to download the app if you’re in the Apple ecosystem or $6.99/year for Android and Windows. If you decide to buy a digital planner rather than make your own, you’ll need to purchase that in addition to the app pricing.

I’ve used Goodnotes for daily journaling and notetaking (I do love the handwritten vibe!), but when it comes to using Goodnotes as a digital planner, I’d much rather plan in a paper one. Just my personal preference!

8. Ellie Planner

Ellie Planner is a beautifully designed digital tool that helps you organize your schedule, tasks, and goals. It is great for people who like the daily Kanban system and has a simple and clean aesthetic.

You can create tasks and subtasks, set deadlines, add notes, and track your progress—all within the same platform!

Many people view Ellie as the lightweight version of Sunsama, without the hefty price tag. But it does lack integrations, robust features, and quick-add functions to capture tasks from your brain into the app quickly.

How Much Does Ellie Cost?

With Ellie, a lot of features are locked under the premium version. You can access limited options for free or pay $9.99/month for calendar integration, labels and recurring tasks.

Immediately after I logged in, I saw exactly why others consider this app to be a Sunsama dupe. Although similar in design, Ellie feels cleaner and easier to use. I love the Brain Dump section to quickly add tasks that don’t require a specific due date. And the estimated time tracker for each task is brilliant! I’m constantly underestimating how long each task takes, so this is an incredibly helpful feature for better planning.

9. Amazing Marvin

Amazing Marvin is a feature-rich app designed to engage and motivate its users to complete tasks by gamifying their to-do lists. It is created specifically for those who tend to procrastinate by focusing on different work and learning styles to uncover what motivates task completion.

Plus, the interface is so clean and minimal! You can choose your color scheme and even upload your own fonts.

Amazing Marvin is similar to popular to-do apps like Todoist, but gives you the ability to toggle various features on and off based on whether you want access to it.

For instance, you can automatically roll over any tasks you didn’t get to today to tomorrow, and bulk import your favorite affirmations to display at the top of your dashboard each day.

Currently, there is no free version of this app due to Amazing Marvin being fully self-funded, but you can test it for a full 31 days . This app is also quite affordable at $8/month and comes with outstanding support.

This app is probably the one that intrigues me the most! I love the minimal look. What really blows me away, though, is the amount of customization you can add to personalize your planning setup. You have complete control over your sidebar, color scheme, and how tasks display in your dashboard. If I were in the market for a new planner app, I’d probably move to this one!

10. Artful Agenda

Designed to visually mimic popular paper planners and calendars, Artful Agenda offers a wide range of beautifully designed themes and customizable layouts, allowing you to personalize your planner to suit your aesthetic taste.

You can customize fonts and colors, add stickers, buy different covers and media packs, and get different page layouts . The app is compatible with Apple Pencil, so you can draw and write on the planner too!

Not only does Artful Agenda offer customizable task lists, goal tracking, habit reminders, and note-taking capabilities, but it also syncs with Google Calendar and other common digital tools to eliminate the need to transfer tasks between apps.

How Much Does Artful Agenda Cost?

You can try Artful Agenda for free for two weeks. After that, this app costs $45/year plus any covers and stickers you purchase from the Artful Agenda store.

I was originally introduced to Artful Agenda via an ad, and it was enough to convince me to test it out! If you want a tool that resembles your paper planner, Artful Agenda is one of the best daily planner apps that retains that look and function. However, I didn’t personally didn’t love the aesthetic of this one as I prefer a more minimal look. But it’s still a top contender in the space!

Which is the Best Planner App?

I have to admit, testing all of these apps made me second guess my current combo of Notion and Morgen Calendar. 😆

There are so many more options available than ever before… and they’re SO GOOD!

Open the app, add all the classes or subjects to the app, and once that is set up, you have the option of adding a new Homework, Quiz, Project, or Test and choose the respective subject deadlines. The app also arranges the due work in cards that can be swiped away when done. But what I love the most about this app is that the fact it allows you to go subject-wise and view all your upcoming tests, projects, or pending assignments which is a huge convenience for planning your schedule ahead of time instead of the previous day.

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t have a timetable option, but in its latest update, it added a  Calendar View  where you can see your whole month at a glance with your assignments, tests, and projects.

Egenda provides some great tools for Homework and Test planning and I am sure anyone would find them extremely convenient and useful. But keeping its single con in mind, go for this app if you are not too keen on having a schedule or timetable.

The next app on our list is ChalkBoard, which I found out to be a pretty smart homework planner app. Chalkboard strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and features.

Although the setup process is a little longer than the previous three apps, as you have to feed meticulous details about the classes, teacher, and schedule. It is worth the effort.

On the home screen, you are shown upcoming classes, events tab, and upcoming tests. ChalkBoard fetches the dates for every subject from the Timetable for your future classes. Little features like these make the app stand out from the rest and give an overall great experience. You can also view classes and assignments subject wise.

This app is extremely helpful with keeping track of all schoolwork and assignments. I’ve been using it for about two-three months now and it has literally saved me. I’ve tried out other apps to keep track of schoolwork, but this one is by far the best, because it allows you to streamline your process, all you need to do is quickly enter the title of your assignment, due date, and choose the class it belongs to, then instead of trying to keep track of your assignments in your head (if you’re anything like me you will forget half of them exist), you can just open that app and it provides a clear view of exactly what you need to get done. I’ve started to use this app to even keep track of meetings and other things outside of school because it works so well. A nice benefit is that for the necessary features it doesn’t require you to pay, although the premium version does allow you to have a few nice perks. Other apps sometimes require you to pay for features that are necessary, such as adding more than a set amount of assignments, but with MyHomework you get free reign, even with the free version. My only slight issue is that it doesn’t work very well in the multitasking view on iPad. Other than that, this app is amazing and I would highly recommend it.

Great App! Small Glitch

I have been using this app for over a year, and let me say that this has saved my grades. I have a physical planner where I write down my homework, but by the middle of the year, I always seem to forget to write it down. Since I’m on my phone a lot, it’s so convenient to be able to quickly jot it down in this app. Literally, I could be relaxing and then I’ll get a notification that I have an assignment due tomorrow which I completely would’ve forgotten to do. It’s also convenient as a schedule since you can write down the name of your teacher, the room number, and the time/period your class starts. Even the color coding feature is super helpful since you remember what class the assignment is for easily and it’s great for aesthetic purposes. My only issue is right now is this glitch. I recently upgraded from an iPhone 6 to and iPhone 7. I noticed that there’s the whole screen is kinda shifted up from where it should be and some of the words get cut off, so I don’t know what I’m reading or writing down. Switched from paper planner to this app

Im a sophomore in high school and i often get slot of homework. School plus extracurricular means i have a very busy schedule and need something to help me stay organized. Before this app i used a paper planner which was great but sometimes inconvenient if i wanted to check if i had plans on a certain day or have homework due on a certain day but i don’t have my planner on me. So now that the new year 2024 has started i needed a new planner but i decided instead of buying on that i would look for a app. i tried one app b4 this which u didn’t like bc it didn’t have a calendar and you could put events or remídete . superrr inconvenient. This app literally had everything that I need and i can log what hw i have right when the teacher says it instead of having to get my planner and write it down . I’m super thankful for it . I recommend this app to any other high school student w extracurriculars and sometimes a busy schedule. ALSO this app works for ppl with A Days and B day schedule 👍👍👍👍👍

Aesthetic Pomodoro Timer

Although you’ll often see the pomodoro technique recommended online as a solution to procrastination, it actually predates the internet itself. It was invented by Italian programmer Francesco Cirillo in the 1980’s whilst he was a University student.

Cirillo, struggling to stay focused on his studies, challenged himself to focus for just 25 minutes on a single task. In order to do so, he found a tomato shaped kitchen timer to alert him when the time was up - hence the name “pomodoro”, which is tomato in Italian.

Since then, many people around the world have used his technique to help them stay focused - it’s become something of a productivity phenomenon, and for good reason.

What is the pomodoro method?

So now know the history - how does it actually work? And crucially, how can it help you focus and get things done?

It’s actually pretty simple - you set a timer for 25 minutes and work. During those 25 minutes you try and focus only on work - no emails, no TV, no interruptions. When those 25 minutes are up, you take a 5 minute break and start another pomodoro. After a few pomodoros (usually around 4) you can then take a longer break of 15-20 minutes.

Because it forces you to break work down into chunks of 25 minutes, it’s easier to just get started and avoid distractions, knowing that you’ll only have to focus for 25 minutes, and have a short break coming up afterwards.

Of course, the 25/5 system of pomodoros is only a suggested length - some people find that 50/10 works better for them. Really, it’s whatever works for you.

What should I do on pomodoro breaks?

Whatever you like! But we recommend getting up from your desk if possible - maybe doing some stretches and walking a few steps. It’s a good time to go make yourself a coffee (or whatever your preferred beverage is).

Will the Pomodoro method work for me?

Of course, everyone is different and the pomodoro method won’t work for everyone. But there is a reason that you’ll see it so commonly being recommended online in productivity circles - for a lot of people it just works. The best thing to do is simply give it a try and see if it helps you.

What is an “aesthetic” pomodoro timer?

You might well have used a pomodoro app at some point - there are many of them online. They all work pretty much the same way - with a simple timer, a ticking sound and an alert when your current pomodoro finishes.

An aesthetic pomodoro timer is the same, except that it adds an audiovisual element which is designed to help you block out your surroundings and avoid distractions.

How to use the pomodoro method using ZenFocus

The ZenFocus timer uses the pomodoro method out of the box! Simply select from the available themes and hit start to begin your first pomodoro.

Once you reach 25 minutes, the background will fade and you can then start your break. Then once your time’s up, start another pomodoro.

What if I have a task that takes more than 25 minutes?

This is fine, but it’s generally recommended that if you have a task that is likely to take more than four pomodoros, it’s probably too big and you should try to break it down into subtasks.

This also lets you “complete” tasks more often, which can be psychologically beneficial - giving you a feeling of progress by breaking your work down into smaller chunks.

What if I have a task that takes less than 25 minutes?

If you have tasks that take less than 25 minutes, it’s best to combine those smaller tasks into one pomodoro so they can be tackled together.

What if I’m interrupted during a pomodoro?

It’s best to try and avoid interruptions during a pomodoro and treat it as something that cannot be broken, if it all possible.

However, this isn’t always possible - for example if you work in a busy office a coworker might interrupt you to ask a question. If this happens, you can either pause your pomodoro and pick up where you left off, or you can take your 5 minute break early, refresh and start again.

It’s recommended that when these interruptions do happen, you make a note of them so you can keep an eye on them over time, and consider how you might minimise them going forward.

Can the pomodoro method help me study?

The pomodoro method works great as a study timer because it forces you to break things up into chunks. One of the difficulties with studying is that it can feel overwhelming with so much information to take in and remember. It’s also important to take regular breaks to avoid becoming overwhelmed with information and burning out. The pomodoro method does this by reminding you to take short breaks every 25 minutes.

I have horrible anxiety and sometimes too much of my attention goes toward how I’m feeling. I started researching the App Store for apps that could assist me with reminders and so forth so I wouldn’t fall behind with certain tasks—especially self-care. I downloaded 4 apps, and out of all of them Floret was perfect for my needs. I want to make sure I do daily meditation and a full body stretch in the a.m., and other tasks throughout the day. I love the reminders that pop up. For example, today I was focused on an activity and my vitamin reminder popped up! This app is like my personal virtual assistant!

I just wish there were more….like more moods like (proud, ecstatic, stress, surprised, anxious) and etc. I love that you can put photos, the calendar sync is my fave! I literally don’t use ios calendar anymore. I put floret on my homescreen. I haven’t tried the habit or task yes, but I will start.

First of all, I think this is the first time I’ve ever rated an app. I’ve never felt so compelled to write a review, but I was just THAT impressed! It is probably most impressive that this app was created by a student in her spare time - WHAT! As far as functionality, this literally has everything I’ve ever wanted in a planner/journal. It’s virtual, it syncs with my calendars, it’s PRETTY (aesthetically pleasing) - that’s a must for me to continually use it honestly, it has events and functional checkmark-able tasks & habits clumped into the same area which is vital for me!
