Time to Write

So, you procrastinated writing a long research paper . You’ve realized your term paper is due tomorrow, and you don’t have a clue where to start! Never fear, fellow scholar! I know that your time is short, your hands are trembling with caffeine and stress, and you will likely be up for the better part of the night typing something out, so I’ll be brief.

I used to be a procrastinator just like you, writing papers the night before or even the morning of, and I never received anything less than an A on any of those hastily constructed creations. While getting a good grade does depend to some extent on your ability as a writer, you can still do well on your last-minute essay by following the steps in this guide and managing your limited time wisely.

Sit back, skim the finer points of this article, and then write that paper—nay, destroy that paper! And may the gods of good grades shower favor upon your exhausted little head.

Here's how to write any paper at the last minute.

1. Schedule Your Time

In your present state of deadline-driven anxiety, you’re going to have the vicious urge to dive straight into writing. Don’t do it. Resist. Abort. Pace yourself.

First, chart out a decent amount of time in which you think you can write this paper. If you’re a slow, hesitant writer, an hour per page is the maximum I would ever suggest. In all likelihood, you can probably write a fairly decent 10-to-12-page paper in about five hours.

Set a paced schedule for yourself and then work carefully but briskly. Let’s say you’ve allotted yourself two hours to write a six-to-eight-page essay. It’s a crunch, but you can manage. Spend a half-hour researching your topic , then put in a solid hour explaining what you’ve learned in paper format, and finally, use the last half-hour to edit and compile a bibliography .

2. Write Your Thesis and Introductory Paragraph

Your thesis is the framework of your entire paper, and a good thesis automatically lends a more positive, academic outlook to the rest of your essay. Your thesis should make a claim and very briefly outline the points you will make in the paper to support that claim.

Let’s say you were given the following prompt: Analyze a movie and then compare it to the decade it was produced in.

First, decide what you want to accomplish with your paper. You need to explain how the movie you chose represents the decade it was produced in. You need to convince your reader that a movie can be an accurate portrayal of its decade, even if the setting was in a different time period.

When writing a thesis, you should avoid flowery prose and instead be concise and simple. Place your thesis at the end of your introductory paragraph after four or five quality sentences that outline some basic ideas and facts about your topic to give it context. Don’t give it all away though—you want to draw your reader (your professor, in this case) in.

Here's an example thesis that responds to the prompt above: The movie "How to Marry a Millionaire" is an accurate representation of the 1950s through its rendering of family values, its portrayal of women, and its emphasis on consumerism.

You can either begin writing about the first of those three subtopics in the next paragraph or, according to your needs or instructor’s requirements, you can follow with a paragraph describing the topic in more detail to allow the reader to follow along with more ease.

Afterward, devote a solid analysis and description to each of the three subtopics. This is discussed in more detail in step 4. Each subtopic should have around three sources that compliment what you’re saying but do not replace your ideas. For a thesis to be as solid as possible, always have at least three subtopics that revolve around your main topic to create a good basis for your argument or ideas. Anything less makes your thesis appear weak and unable to stand on its own.

3. Do Your Research

Here is where your essay will live or die. The more research you can provide without drowning your TA or professor in useless facts, the better. You need to prove that you’ve thought deeply about your topic and sifted through various resources over a period of several weeks, even if you haven’t.

If your paper requires book sources, utilize your campus library. If not, Google is your savior. Plug in your topic followed by your subtopic keywords. Stay on the first three pages and peruse carefully. Don’t click through every search option. Look at the title, summary, and web address carefully. You want good, solid sources. If you use a quote or fact from the web, follow it with an in-text citation (if your college prefers footnotes, use those instead). Generally, an in-text citation includes the author’s last name followed by the relevant page number with a single space in between (e.g. Smith 56).

Sometimes Google doesn't return sources that are academic in nature. In this case, turn to databases. I recommend you use databases more than Google searches anyway because they tend to contain more reputable material. Log on to your school’s library webpage and search for database options; I guarantee your school’s library will have several to choose from, and from there, you will have access to many scholarly articles that you can incorporate into your paper.

4. Body Paragraphs

Once you’ve established your thesis and introductory paragraph, move on to the body paragraphs. I find this format to be the most helpful for outlining a simple but quality paragraph.

Sentence 1 (Summary): Summarize the point you are making about your subtopic: Family values were important to most Americans during the post-WWII 1950s.

Sentence 2 (Analysis): Quickly analyze why you think sentence 1 is true.

Sentence 3 (Fact) : Back up sentence 2 and lend support to sentence 1 by stating a relevant fact. Make sure you cite your source correctly.

Sentence 4 (Analysis): Relate the fact you cited in sentence 3 to your analysis from sentence 2 to show how it supports your point from sentence 1.

Sentence 5 (Quote): Quotes from credible sources can be powerful but should be used sparingly—otherwise your own words will be drowned out, and the paper will be little more than cut-and-paste plagiarism. Find a quote that says something similar to your analysis and use it as support for your ideas. Do not let it replace your ideas or be a springboard for them.

Sentence 6 (Analysis): Analyze the quote by showing how it relates to the point you’re making about your subtopic.

This basic framework for a body paragraph makes it easy to plug in sentences and get a lot of writing done quickly. You must be careful to provide plenty of your own thoughts and ideas. Remember: facts support your ideas and quotes compliment them.

5. Create a Conclusion

The conclusion of your paper needs to restate all of your previous ideas without sounding overly repetitive. Summarize the basic points of your thesis without restating facts or ideas. Mention your subtopics again and reaffirm how they support your overarching claim. Finally, leave your reader with a sentence that makes them think about the topic for a moment after they’ve finished the paper. This can be a question or a thought-provoking sentence.

6. Take a Troubleshooting Break

If you’re having trouble with your paper or feeling stuck, go for a quick five-minute run. Run briskly and breathe deeply. On your return, drink some water and eat a light snack. Get back to work. You can write this paper, and you will.

7. Finishing Up

Okay, so you’ve churned out as many pages or words as you need to. You’re done with the bulk of the work and you're over the hump. Now you can start editing and revising.

Make this quick. Read through your paper silently first, fixing any mistakes you notice along the way. Next, compile your bibliography. Collect all your sources, format them properly and quickly using easybib.com, then get a quick drink.

Come back to your paper and read it out loud as if you’re presenting it to an audience. This will help you catch any mistakes you might have missed when reading it silently. Shore up any weak arguments with a quick sentence containing a source or with more analysis or argument.

Add a title if necessary. If you don’t have time to come up with a creative title, be boring, but be true. For example: “ How to Marry a Millionaire : Cultural Connections in the 1950s .”

Get some sleep if you can!

You Did It!

Simple, quick, done. Writing a paper efficiently at the last minute involves following a simple formula. The formula has variables that you just need to plug data into, and that makes the writing process far simpler than many stressed college students may think.

Take a deep breath, break things down, find your data, and insert it in the proper locations. You likely will not get the grade you could have gotten had you started working well in advance of your deadline, but you won’t flunk the assignment either. I hope this article has helped alleviate some of the dread that accompanies writing a paper last minute. Now, get some sleep and try to plan better next time.

The most common problem I find with my students was using words they did not understand because they thought they ought to write in a more “academic” style.

I think you must choose a story with a manageable plot. You're not writing a novel, so the story or essay needs to be fairly contained and concise. Try to limit it as much as possible but without depriving the essence.

Here are detailed guides about writing an essay:

Also, I would like to add that conclusion is an important part of any story. It does not simply restate the thesis but presents it in light of evidence collected or reflections made.

I am also, unfortunately, a procrastinator. I've gotten better this year, thankfully. I would also add that most online databases such as JSTOR have online texts (read: books) available. So even if you do need book sources, sometimes those books are available online and the library can, but not always, be unnecessary. I have never had a professor who wanted book/paper sources tell me I needed to read those sources in paper, only that they had to be originally/simultaneously published in print.

Ms Monique H on May 31, 2013:

Great post. I've pulled a few all-nighters myself (sometimes into the day time too), so I know what this is like! I've been a writing tutor for quite some time, and I know for a fact that this approach won't work for those who have trouble with the basics. But, life happens, so this is great advice.

Virginia Kearney from United States on November 01, 2012:

I think you offer some very solid advice on writing a good paper in a reasonable amount of time. I especially like your advice on how to write each sentence in a paragraph. I teach college English and find that one of the biggest problems students have in using quotes or facts is that they don't clearly explain or analzye how those facts support their own ideas. Voted up and pinned! P.S. We have a cat that looks just like the one in your photo!

Andrew Spacey from Sheffield, UK on June 25, 2012:

There are some interesting insights into the construction of a paper - nicely elucidated. You must have had plenty of practise to become such an expert! Takes me back to school when on the odd occasion in the corridor or toilet I'd pen some late homework, very late homework and hand it in as if nothing unusual or panicky had happened.

Thanks for this.

Mr. Happy from Toronto, Canada on April 29, 2012:

This was a fun read. You certainly seem comfortable with words and thus, I think You might be seeing things easier than others.

I like your approach though: planning is critical in my mind too, especially when it comes to essays.

I enjoyed the read. Cheers!

As always, thank you WE for your encouragement and kind words. :) I've never minded writing papers, since I'm lucky enough for words to come easily to me, but I cannot even imagine what it would be like if I was not a writer and I hated writing papers. Ugh!

This is a delight to read. I am personally happy that I haven't any more papers to write - been there, done that, having been through university and even law school. Your writing is so accomplished that it has a real professional touch to it.

Hacks How to Write a 10 and 20 page Paper in One Night

Updated: July 15, 2022

Published: April 19, 2020

Hacks-How-to-Write-a-10-and-20-page-Paper-in-One-Night

It’s the night before a big paper is due. For whatever reason, you find yourself needing to write an entire research paper in a very short amount of time. While procrastination isn’t ideal, extenuating circumstances may have caused your timeline to get pushed back. So, here you are, looking for how to write a 10-page paper or how to write a 20-page paper in one night.

It goes without saying the best way to write a paper is to give yourself enough time to outline, draft, and edit. Yet, it’s still possible to write in less time. Take heed of these best tips and tricks to organize your thoughts and get your thesis on paper as fast as possible.

How to prepare before you write, 1. create a schedule to maximize your time.

You’ve likely already spent time panicking. Once you calm yourself of the anxiety of having to finish a 10- or 20-page paper in one night, organize your plan of attack. First, you should designate an area free of distractions so that you can focus. Aside from a few breaks and snacks, it’s best to set up a comfortable place to write. Give yourself some time to outline and find/cite research . Once you know how you’re going to approach the subject, then you can start drafting.

2. Determine your Main Topic

If you’ve been given a prompt, then your topic is clear. However, sometimes you have the freedom to choose what your research will be about. In this case, it’s smartest to choose a topic that you are already knowledgeable about. That way, you will save yourself key time that would have otherwise been spent on research. If you don’t feel strongly about any particular topic, then at least try to pick one that has a lot of information available.

3. Perform Research

Start looking up sources to cite that support your thesis, or main argument. As you research, be sure to take notes. One of the best ways to do this is to use a word processor like Google Docs or Microsoft Word to copy and paste URLs. For each source, it would be best to copy/paste one main sentence that covers its point.

Then, you can write brief notes in your own words that summarize what you have read from that source. While you are performing research, you can start to put together an outline, or the flow of how you will present your ideas broken down by topic and argument.

4. Outline 3-5 subtopics

Once you’ve chosen your topic, then try to pull 3-5 subtopics from it. Each sub-topic should be juicy enough to be able to write a lot about it. The subtopics are your supporting paragraphs which fill the body of the research paper. They should basically be mini essays within themselves.

Writing in One Night

Writing a long research paper in one night isn’t ideal, but it is doable. Some of the best ways to get it done is to follow these 5 tips:

1. Plan and Outline

Take those few extra moments to plan and outline your paper. While it may feel like a waste of valuable time, it is going to help you stay on track. When you have an outline and you get to the middle of your paper, you won’t feel lost as to how to continue. An outline will be useful to you like a map is on a journey.

2. Use Specialized Search

Take advantage of search tools that are designed for scholars. For example, a few of these include: Google Scholar and Elsevier .

3. Leverage Tools

There are citation management tools that will help you find sources for your topic. Mendeley is just one of them. You can type parts of your paper into the tool and find quotes of value. Be sure to cite everything you use to avoid plagiarism .

4. Proofread and Edit

Once you complete writing 10 to 20 pages, you may feel like throwing in the towel and going to sleep for a few hours. However, it is crucial to power through and proofread your paper. If you have anyone available who can read your paper over, that would be best because it’s hard to catch mistakes when you’ve been looking at the same thing for so long. But, if no one is available, try to read your paper back to yourself out loud. This way, you may be able to catch typos better.

5. Check Formatting

Every research paper needs to adhere to a particular format guideline. Whether it’s APA, MLA, or another standard formatting practice, be sure to double check that your layout adheres to the guidelines.

When to start writing.

If you have yet to find yourself trying to write a paper at the last minute and all the notes above are scaring you out of procrastination, then that’s a good start! Perhaps you were recently assigned a research paper. In this case, the best way to tackle the project is to do the following:

Start Early

Get started right away. Even if it means just performing early research or writing an outline, starting early is going to save you from having to write a paper in one night down the line. When you start early, you benefit greatly because you can: leverage peers for ideas, take the necessary time to edit and rewrite, and you lower your risk of picking a topic with too little information and having to change topics at the last minute.

Writing in Stages

Starting early also affords you the opportunity to write in stages. You can think of writing as a cycle when you write in stages. First, you can create your outline. Then, you can write the introduction, edit it, and rewrite anything you may need to before moving on to the next piece (or the first body paragraph, in this case).

Use a Timeline

Create a timeline for your writing in stages. If you start four weeks in advance, for example, you have time to do all of the following:

  • Fully understand the assignment and ask any questions
  • Start to read and document sources
  • Create notecards and cite books for sources
  • Write a summary of what you’ve discovered so far that will be used in some of your paper
  • Create 3-5 subtopics and outline points you want to explore
  • Look for more sources on your subtopics
  • Start writing summaries on each subtopic
  • Write some analysis of your findings
  • Start to piece together the research paper based on your notes and outline (almost like completing a puzzle)
  • Edit and proofread / ask for feedback

The Writing Process

The actual writing process is a little different for everyone, but this is a general overview for how to write a 20-page paper, or one that is shorter.

  • Start with a Thesis: Your thesis is one sentence that clearly and concisely explains what you are going to prove with research.
  • Include a Menu Sentence: At the end of your introduction, you will briefly outline your subtopics in what is often referred to as a “menu sentence.” This allows the reader to understand what they can expect to learn about as they continue to read your paper.
  • Create a Detailed Introduction: Your introduction should be detailed enough so that someone with little to no knowledge about your subject matter can understand what the paper is about.
  • Keep References: Be sure to write your references as you go along so that you basically can create your bibliography in the process of writing. Again, this is where a tool like Mendeley may be useful.
  • Write First: Write first and edit later. You want to get all your ideas down on the page before you start judging or editing the writing.
  • Save Often: Create the draft on a cloud platform that is automatically saved (i.e. Google Docs in case your computer crashes) or email the work to yourself as you go.

Sources to Consider Using

When writing your research paper and finding sources, it’s best to use a mix of sources. This may include:

  • Internet: The Internet is filled with limitless possibilities. When you use the Internet, it’s best to find credible and trustworthy sources to avoid using fake news as a source. That’s why tools like Google Scholar can be so helpful.
  • Textbooks: It’s more likely than not that you’ll be able to use your class textbook as a source for the research you are conducting.
  • Books: Additionally, other books outside of those you read within your class will prove useful in any research paper.

Final Steps: Editing and Formatting

Once you’ve written all your ideas on the page, it’s time to edit. It cannot be stressed enough that editing is pivotal before submission. This is especially true if you’ve been writing under immense pressure.

Writing a 10- or 20-page research paper in one night is not easy, so there are bound to be mistakes and typos. The best way to catch these mistakes is to follow these tips:

  • Take a break before you edit so you can come back to the page with somewhat fresh eyes and a clearer head
  • Read it out loud to edit and catch mistakes because sometimes your brain will override typos or missing words to make sense of what it is reading
  • If possible, ask someone else to look it over
  • Consider using footnotes or block quotes
  • Format according to how your university asks – MLA or APA, etc.

The Bottom Line

Life throws curveballs your way without warning. Whether you are holding yourself accountable for procrastinating or something out of your control came up, you may find yourself needing to write a big research paper in one night. It’s not the best-case scenario, but with the right tools and tricks up your sleeve, you can surely get it done!

How to Write a Paper in a Night

While you may never plan for it, writing a paper in one night is a stressful experience. Not only do you need to produce a certain amount of words, but to get a decent grade you need to create an argument and address the prompt. Fortunately, by preparing yourself and efficiently planning, writing, and editing your paper, you may be able to create a good paper in a single night.

Maximizing Your Time Through Preparation

Step 1 Create a schedule for the night.

  • Set aside some time for planning your paper – perhaps 25%.
  • Set aside the bulk of your time for writing it – maybe 50%.
  • Put aside about 25% of your time for proofreading and editing your paper.

Step 2 Read the directions.

  • Most paper assignments will revolve around a single question that you’ll need to respond to – your prompt. Spend as much time as you can making sure you completely understand the prompt.
  • Read the details of the assignment. For example, your instructor might have specified that you need to include a certain number of sources, meet a word limit, type in Times New Roman, and double space your paper. Make sure you follow these directions.

Step 3 Spend an hour getting informed.

  • If your prompt is limited to one text, focus only on that text. However, you may need to conduct some research, especially if you need to incorporate support into your paper. In this case, do a quick search on academic databases, such as JSTOR, EBSCO, and Google Scholar. Quickly skim the results to improve your understanding of the text and find good quotes to cite in your paper. Be careful when choosing your keywords!
  • Read topic sentences, and then allow your eyes to skim toward specific examples in whatever you are reading. Use a highlighter to help you move through the text quickly.
  • If you’re allowed to rely on and cite outside information, look for Sparknotes, Shmoop, CliffNotes, book reviews, online articles, and other sources that can briefly explain the subject matter. [3] X Research source

Step 4 Formulate your thesis....

  • Your thesis is typically one sentence that takes a clear stance on a specific argument. For example, if the paper prompt poses a question about the cause of the decline of the Roman Empire, a good thesis would state a specific cause, such as the Empire’s reliance on non-citizens in its army.
  • Once you have a good thesis, write it out and keep it in front of you at all times. Your thesis is essentially your mission of the evening – prove it or fail.

Step 5 Brainstorm.

  • If you need, take a minute to look up specific ideas or facts you may think of while brainstorming.
  • If it helps, organize your ideas in a graphic manner. Link ideas and facts together with lines, or as if they are branches or leaves on a tree. [5] X Research source

Step 6 Outline your argument.

Writing a Quality Paper

Step 1 Write your introduction.

  • It's a good idea to write all of your topic sentences for your support paragraphs before you write your paper. This helps you understand where each paragraph should begin and end, which will make writing your paper easier.
  • You should have a minimum of three support paragraphs.
  • Every paragraph should have a mini-thesis/argument that supports the larger argument of your paper. This could be the same as your topic sentence.

Step 3 Finish your conclusion.

  • Write a sentence or two addressing the subject of your paper.
  • Restate the thesis. Instead of rewriting your thesis, reformulate it: "The Roman Empire's overextended military was unable to defend its vast borders in Europe and Asia Minor."
  • Make a final appeal to the reader to believe what you’ve said. You may want to remind the reader of some of your most compelling evidence.

Step 4 Cite your sources.

  • Use whatever citation method/standard your instructor requires. This could be MLA, APA, or Chicago, depending on the course.

Step 5 Rest before your final proof.

  • If it is really late, you might want to just get a few hours of sleep and wake up very early to proof and edit your paper.
  • If it is somewhat late, like around midnight, you may want to take a walk, watch a TV program, and get a cup of coffee before resuming work on your paper.
  • If you’re really determined to get your paper done as soon as possible, take a half hour break and grab a cup of coffee and do some light exercise to get your juices flowing.

Step 6 Edit for clarity.

  • Do just one quick run-through to edit for clarity. For a standard 1,500-word paper, this might take 30 minutes.
  • Your statements should be self-explanatory and make sense.
  • Topic sentences should concisely describe the subject of the support paragraph.
  • Your thesis statement should be apparent throughout the paper.
  • A clear paper should flow and proceed in a logical manner. Pay special attention to missing transitions and lack of logical flow.

Step 7 Proofread.

  • While proofreading might be your final step, it is perhaps the most important one – do not neglect it.

Avoiding Distractions and Pitfalls

Step 1 Find an isolated location.

  • Quiet areas of your campus library. Don’t hang around the coffee shop or computers where people access social media.
  • A coffee shop far from campus – where you won’t run into friends.
  • Your bedroom or home office. Make sure to unplug your TV and let your roommates know you’re working.

Step 2 Use caffeine to stay awake if you aren't sensitive to it.

  • Be careful drinking products like Eight Hour Energy.
  • Don’t combine caffeinated products with prescription drugs.
  • If you’re not into caffeine, consider hydrating yourself and exercising a little before and while you write. In addition to drinking lots of water, you could try adding lemon to your water, eating an apple, or increasing your protein intake. [11] X Research source

Step 3 Take breaks.

  • Take a break when it seems appropriate. If you’re on a roll writing and making a lot of progress, put your break off until you run out of steam.

Step 4 Do not plagiarize.

  • Many high schools and colleges require that papers be run through a program to check for plagiarism. These programs can detect similarities to any text that's appeared online or in a published book. Additionally, the program will check your work against other papers turned in by students, both currently and in years past. Plagiarism isn't work the risk, as you'll likely get caught.

Step 5 Avoid procrastination in the future.

  • Use a day planner to plan all of your course work. Write down due dates and other important information.
  • Start your work at least two weeks ahead of time. Start researching when the paper is assigned, then begin outlining once your research is complete. How to Write an Essay in One Night

If you are reading this article, chances are, you are in trouble wondering how to write a 5000 word essay in one night. Perhaps, you have been procrastinating until the very last minute, or were buried deep under other work, or weren’t able to dedicate your time fully to your writing for some other purpose. The outcome is the same – you are supposed to hand your research paper in tomorrow, and you are still at square one.

You have just one night to begin and complete the essay, so what are you going to do? One thing is for sure – you are not getting any sleep tonight. As for all the rest, we are going to cover it in this article.

How to Write a Research Paper in One Night

If you have an urgent assignment due the tomorrow morning, you will have to work for the whole night. When writing a paper in one night, you will be pressed not just by the lack of time, but by exhaustion and sleepiness as well. All this means that you should pay extra attention not just to the actual writing techniques, but to how you organize the very writing process as well.

  • Stock up on healthy snacks for studying . You are going to need some energy to keep you going through the night. Being distracted by hunger isn’t very conducive for the efficient work. At the same time, it isn’t the best idea to take long breaks to have a full-fledged meal, so snacks are the way to go. Nuts are especially recommended – they give plenty of energy without causing a sugar rush that may leave you exhausted after it passes;
  • Use the power of caffeine. Whether you like coffee and energy drinks, you need them to keep you awake and aware throughout the night. So get a lot of it. Just make sure to be careful drinking concentrated energy drinks and don’t mix them with prescription drugs;
  • Take breaks. It may seem counterintuitive when you need to get a job done as fast as possible, but experience shows us that occasional short breaks more than compensate for the time you ‘lose’ on them. The longer you work, the less efficiently your brain functions. There comes a time when you simply stare at the screen, unable to think about another word to type. Short breaks (preferably combined with bouts of physical exercise) won’t restore your brain to full capacity, but they will still recharge you a little bit and make it easier to go on;
  • Keep yourself hydrated. Those wondering how to write an essay in one night tend to forget that the process is not just about having tons of coffee and eating snacks. It’s about keeping your body and brain hydrated. Water is essential for proper functioning of the brain and your energy levels, and caffeinated drinks cannot serve as a replacement. So, get a bottle of water and keep it close at hand;
  • Make sure you don’t get distracted. Writing at night has its benefits, as most people are asleep, and there are fewer things in your immediate vicinity to call for your attention. Nevertheless, you should take care to eliminate all the potential distractions, especially those that you know are attractive for you. Turn off your smartphone, disable notifications in social media and email. Even better, use some blocking software like RescueTime to prevent yourself from visiting your favorite websites – you are going to work using the Internet, so these are especially dangerous for your concentration.

How to Write Research Paper in One Night: 5 Preparation Tips to Follow at Night

You have to submit your paper in the morning. This means that you have a very limited amount of time to complete your job. Each minute has to be used to the fullest. This means that some preparation is in order – if you just plunge into writing, at the very best, your paper will be unreadable. At worst, you won’t be able to finish it on time at all.

  • Brace yourself for the worst. If you’ve done absolutely no reading on the subject matter of your paper, consider accepting the fact that you won’t be able to hand the paper in tomorrow. Contact your instructor and inform them that your paper will be late. In many ways, it is preferable to simply not handing it in because you weren’t able to complete the job on time. Another alternative is to submit a poorly written paper because it is very likely to be the only thing you can churn out in just 1 night. It is not the end of the world, nor it is an easy way out – it is just a way of cutting your losses when you still have time to do it with dignity;

time management strategy for essay writing

  • Plan your time. As you have very little time, you have to use it to the maximum efficiency. To do so, you have to prepare a plan and stick to it. If you simply sit down and get to work, you will not be able to track your progress and see that, for example, you are taking too long at a certain stage and won’t be able to finish on time if you continue in this fashion. Break your time into 30-minute intervals and evaluate how much of if you need for each task. Try to have at least an hour unassigned to anything because some steps will inevitably take longer than planned.
  • Take your time reading the prompt. You are in a hurry, but not reading the prompt attentively can lead to catastrophic results – you may miss some important details (like the need to use a certain number of sources) or misunderstand the question entirely. It is unpleasant enough in normal circumstances, but right now, you cannot afford to find out that the essay you’ve just finished was written using a wrong prompt. Ideally, you should write down the main points of the prompt in your own words so that you can refer to them later on – this way, you can be sure you’ve understood everything correctly;
  • Make sure you understand the style and formatting guidelines. Be too quick to read them, and you may realize too late that you’ve gotten things wrong and had to single space your paper and now you have to write as much as you’ve already done, but there is no time to do so;
  • Take notes from reliable sources. If you’ve done some reading and have at least a basic acquaintance with the topic, organize the books and sources you have when dealing with the overnight essay. Skim over them and make notes, marking down fragments you want to cite.

6 Writing Tips to Prepare a Well-Written Paper

Writing an urgent paper isn’t much different from writing when you have all the time in the world – you just have to work fast and don’t have the right to make any mistakes. This means that you should carefully divide your work into stages and avoid dispersing your attention. Do one thing at a time, never getting distracted either by things outside your job or by other stages.

#1. Don’t even consider plagiarizing. A lot of students looking for the best solutions on how to write an essay overnight feel the temptation to copy-paste somebody else’s works or fragments of those. Wrong! No matter how tough the assignment gets, using texts written by fellow students is a crime. We live in times when even middle school English teachers use plagiarism checkers when looking through the works of their students. In most cases, plagiarism is immediately obvious even without specialized software, but even if it isn’t, any checker will immediately spot your attempt at copy/paste. You will get caught and some consequences of plagiarism are possible. At the very best, it will get on your record. At worst, you will be expelled;

#2. Think about a thesis statement. This is a key to any successful paper. Without a clear, concise and definite thesis statement, an assignment risks turning out to be weak, unfocused, and vague. Think about the main argument you make in your paper and try to formulate it in a single sentence. If you have problems doing this, it means that you haven’t fully understood what is required of you. Therefore, you have to spend some time clarifying your point. After you manage to create a thesis statement, write it down on a separate sheet of paper. Keep it in front of you at all times so that you don’t stray away from your primary topic;

#3. Do a short brainstorming session. Write down any ideas that can help you support your argument. This is a good time to start marking down the quotes and references you are going to make. Write down everything that comes into your head – don’t try to separate good ideas from bad ones at this point, you don’t have to use everything you come up with right now;

#4. Prepare an outline, i.e., a detailed plan for your paper. It should include, in short form, everything you intend to write in every part of your essay: how you introduce the topic, your thesis statement, points to be mentioned in each paragraph along with the accompanying supporting evidence, how you want to sum things up in the conclusion, and so on. A well-written outline means that when it comes to writing per se, you will simply have to elaborate on each point to get a full-fledged paper;

#5. Be concise. Whether you have a word count to fill in or not, padding your text won’t help you. If you simply have to drive your point home, you don’t have time for long-winded phrases, especially if you’re not really sure how to finish an assignment in one night . If you have to achieve a certain word count, your instructor will immediately spot your attempts at bloating your paper with filler, which can lead to a worse grade than you can receive if you write my essay properly. Short and simple sentences aren’t a sign of low intelligence – if you successfully express your thoughts, it is the sign of thinking that cuts to the chase and eliminates unnecessary details;

Proofreading essay tips

#6. Proofread. Don’t treat proofreading as something that you will do if you have some time and energy left after you’ve finished with the “real work”. Proofreading is just as a real work as gathering sources and writing, especially if you write in such a hurry. When you have a few hours to complete a paper, you are bound to make mistakes that can seriously decrease your chances of getting a good grade. Ideally, you should let your paper lie a little bit before you start proofreading it. Obviously, this is not the situation when it is possible, so use whatever time is left to do it. Check your formatting for compliance with college guidelines and your assigned formatting style. Check your style – if you find colloquialisms, jargon or slang, eliminate it. Avoid passive voice – in most cases, it makes speech lifeless and hard to read.

We hope these tips will help you deal with your situation right now and emerge from this crisis with flying colors. And perhaps, the memory of this experience will be enough to prevent you from procrastinating the next time you have to write an important assignment!

The Academic Writer’s Guide to Pulling An All-Nighter

academic writing academic editing service

Every academic writer has been warned of the dangers of procrastination, and yet at some point you may still end up armed with only a few pages against a fast-approaching deadline. Thankfully, these sleepless nights don’t have to be too difficult. Read on to find out how you can power through a night of academic writing.

Why You Shouldn’t Pull An All-Nighter

writing academic paper

Before giving you the tips on pulling an all-nighter, it’s important to understand that you should avoid it if you can. Sleep deprivation has serious short- and long-term effects that could show in your performance. We’ve listed some of them below:

It makes you cranky

When someone pulls an all-nighter, it shows in the way they act. And who can blame them? Staying up all night brings out the crankiness and impatience in you. What’s more,  an article on Healthline notes how sleep deprivation can make you more prone to mood swings , which can eventually escalate to anxiety and depression.

It increases stress levels

Forcing yourself to stay up even for just one night is stressful enough already, and it can lead to burnout if you do it consistently. This kind of prolonged stress can be extremely harmful to your mental health and could do more harm than good to your writing. In fact,  psychology experts from Maryville University link mental health to academic performance . This means pulling too many all-nighters won’t help your research in the long run, even if it feels like you’re making a lot of progress.

It decreases your attention span

Every writer knows how crucial it is to have focus and discipline when working on a paper. Unfortunately, pulling an all-nighter diminishes this focus and limits your attention span.  Researchers from the University of Turku highlight the connection between sleep deprivation and cognitive performance  – the less shuteye you get, the harder it is to concentrate.

Tips For When You Have To Stay Up And Write

editing a dissertation

Now that you’ve been warned, here are some things you should keep in mind when you have no other choice than to pull an all-nighter:

Sleep when you can

While this may seem counterproductive, it’s crucial that you try to nap when you can. Even just short fifteen or twenty-minute naps can help your brain rest and recover, especially when you spread them out throughout the night.

Go easy on the caffeine

The logical thing to do when trying to stay up all night is rely on caffeine, right? Wrong. When you drink too much coffee, you get a jolt of energy and then suffer a crash that you may not be able to fight. If you need some form of caffeine, take it easy on the coffee and opt for tea, instead.

Drink tons of water

You may be able to avoid the caffeine altogether if you drink tons of water during your all-nighter. When your system is happy and hydrated, you’ll be able to focus on the task at hand. Plus, you don’t have to deal with the coffee jitters that decrease concentration.

Plan your night

The most important tip for any writer before embarking on an all-nighter is to go in with a plan. You’re less likely to waste time on social media or stare at a blank screen when you have a clear schedule to follow. Structure your paper and set small goals that you can realistically achieve throughout the night. Don’t forget to factor in your breaks and naps.

Once you’ve successfully gone through an all-nighter, it’s safe to assume you made more than one mistake through your bleary-eyed writing frenzy. Reach out to our talented academic editors here on Edit911  to give your work that much-needed final touch, while you get your well-deserved rest.

Preparing for the Essay

Preparing for an essay can seem like a daunting task, especially when you’re short on time. However, taking the time to prepare will make the actual writing process much smoother. Here are some tips to help you prepare effectively:

Choose a topic : If you haven’t been given a topic, choose something that interests you. This will make the research process more enjoyable and engaging. It’s also important to choose a topic that has enough research available to support your argument. If you’re struggling to come up with a topic, try brainstorming or discussing ideas with classmates or your tutor.

Conduct research : Once you have a topic, start researching. Use online databases, academic journals, and books to find sources that support your argument. It’s important to use reliable sources and to take notes on the key points that support your thesis statement. This will make it easier to organize your thoughts later on.

Develop a thesis statement: Your thesis statement is the main argument you will be making in your essay. It should be clear and concise, and it should provide a roadmap for the rest of your essay. Spend some time developing a strong thesis statement that is supported by your research.

Create an outline : Your outline should be a detailed plan of the structure of your essay. It should include your introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The more detailed your outline is, the easier it will be to write your essay . Make sure that each section of your outline supports your thesis statement and is organized logically.

By taking the time to prepare before you start writing, you’ll be able to write a more cohesive and effective essay. Additionally, preparing will help you avoid writer’s block and make the actual writing process smoother. So, take the time to choose a topic, conduct research, develop a thesis statement, and create an outline. These steps will set you up for success when it’s time to start writing your essay .

Managing Your Time Effectively

Managing your time effectively is key to writing a successful essay in one night. Here are some tips to help you manage your time:

Break down the essay into manageable tasks: It can be overwhelming to think about writing an entire essay in one night. That’s why it’s important to break down the essay into manageable tasks. You could allocate time to research, writing the introduction, writing the body paragraphs, and writing the conclusion. By breaking the essay into smaller tasks, you’ll be able to manage your time more effectively.

Set a realistic timeline for each task: It’s important to set a realistic timeline for each task. This means allocating enough time to complete each task without rushing. If you rush, you’re more likely to make mistakes and produce a lower-quality essay. Make sure you have a good understanding of how long each task will take and set aside enough time to complete it.

Prioritize tasks: It’s important to prioritize tasks based on their importance. For example, you should start with the most important sections of the essay, such as the introduction and thesis statement. From there, move onto the body paragraphs and supporting evidence. Finally, complete the essay with a strong conclusion that summarizes your main points. This will ensure that you’re focusing on the most important aspects of the essay and producing a well-structured piece of writing.

Avoid distractions: When writing your essay, it’s important to avoid distractions. Turn off your phone and close any social media or other distracting websites. Find a quiet place to work where you can focus without being interrupted. This will help you stay focused and be more productive.

Writing the Essay

Writing an essay can be challenging, but by breaking it down into manageable tasks and using effective strategies, you can produce a high-quality essay in one night. Here are some tips to help you write your essay:

Start with a strong introduction: Your introduction should grab the reader’s attention and provide a clear roadmap for your essay. Make sure that your thesis statement is clear and concise, and that it accurately reflects the main argument of your essay.

Use clear topic sentences in your body paragraphs: Each body paragraph should start with a clear topic sentence that introduces the main point you will be discussing. Make sure that your supporting evidence is relevant and supports your thesis statement. Use transitions to connect your ideas and maintain coherence. This will make your essay easier to follow and more engaging for the reader.

Summarize your main points in the conclusion: In your conclusion, summarize the main points of your essay and restate your thesis statement. This will remind the reader of the key points you have made and provide closure for your essay. Make sure that your final statement is strong and leaves a lasting impression on the reader.

When writing your essay, it’s also important to consider the tone and style of your writing. Your writing should be clear, concise, and engaging. Use active voice and avoid using jargon or overly complex language. This will make your essay more accessible to a wider audience and help you communicate your ideas effectively.

Additionally, make sure that you’re following any guidelines or requirements provided by your tutor or professor. This may include things like formatting, word count , or specific content requirements. By following these guidelines, you’ll ensure that your essay meets the expectations of your tutor or professor.

Editing and Proofreading the Essay

Editing and proofreading are critical steps in the essay writing process. It’s essential to review and revise your work to ensure that your ideas are presented clearly and effectively. Here are some tips to help you edit and proofread your essay:

  • Take a break: After finishing your essay, take a break before you start editing. This will give you some distance from your work and help you approach it with fresh eyes. When you return to your essay, you’ll be able to see it more objectively and identify areas that need improvement.
  • Review for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors: Start by reviewing your essay for basic errors like grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You can use online tools like Grammarly to help you identify errors. Make sure that you’re using proper punctuation and grammar throughout your essay. Look for common mistakes like subject-verb agreement, run-on sentences, and sentence fragments.
  • Check for clarity and coherence: Make sure that your essay is clear and easy to understand. Check that your ideas are presented in a logical and organized manner. Use transitions to connect your ideas and make sure that each paragraph is focused on a single topic. If you find that your writing is confusing or difficult to follow, consider revising your work.
  • Seek feedback from a peer or tutor: It’s always helpful to get feedback from someone else. Ask a peer or tutor to read your essay and provide feedback. They may be able to identify areas where you can improve your essay or offer suggestions for making your argument stronger. Be open to constructive criticism and use it to improve your essay.
  • Edit and revise your essay: Once you’ve identified areas that need improvement, make the necessary changes to your essay. Edit your work for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Revise your writing for clarity and coherence. Ensure that your essay is well-structured and that your ideas flow logically from one paragraph to the next.
  • Proofread your essay: After you’ve made changes to your essay, proofread it one last time. Check for any lingering errors, such as misspelled words or incorrect punctuation. Make sure that your essay is error-free and ready to submit.

Prioritizing Your Well-Being: Consider a Professional Writing Service

It’s important to prioritize your well-being, even when faced with a tight deadline. If you’re struggling to write an essay in one night and are feeling overwhelmed, consider getting a good night’s sleep instead. Sleep is essential for your physical and mental health, and it can help you approach your work with a clearer mind and more energy.

If you’re concerned about missing your deadline, consider using a professional writing service . A professional writer can help you produce a high-quality essay that meets your academic requirements and reflects your ideas and arguments. Many writing services offer fast turnaround times and can deliver your essay within your deadline.

Using a professional writing service can also give you peace of mind and reduce your stress levels. You’ll have more time to focus on other tasks or to rest and recharge. Plus, you’ll have a well-written essay that you can submit with confidence.

When considering a writing service, make sure to choose a reputable and trustworthy provider. Look for services that offer a money-back guarantee, high-quality work, and prompt communication with their clients. Read reviews and testimonials from other customers to get a sense of the service’s reputation and reliability.

Remember, your well-being should always come first. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed, consider getting a good night’s sleep or seeking help from a professional writing service. This will allow you to approach your work with a clearer mind and greater confidence, and ultimately produce a better essay.

In conclusion, writing an essay in one night is a challenging task, but with the right tips and strategies, it can be done successfully. Prepare by choosing a topic, conducting research, and developing a thesis statement and outline. Manage your time effectively by breaking down the essay into manageable tasks, prioritizing tasks, and avoiding distractions. When writing your essay, start with a strong introduction, use clear topic sentences in your body paragraphs, and finish with a strong conclusion. Finally, edit and proofread your essay, seek feedback if possible, and take care of your well-being. With these tips in mind, you can write an excellent essay even under pressure.

How To Write an Essay the Night Before

how to write a 6 page essay in one night

While it isn’t something we recommend, sometimes you find yourself writing an essay the night before it’s due. You won’t be the first or the last, believe us. But if you want to know how to get the most out of your essay then this article is for you. Just because you’re writing it last minute it doesn’t mean it can’t still be good! Here’s how to do it:

Take a breath

There’s nothing worse than going into writing an essay stressed and disorganised. Especially when you’re doing it at last minute, you might feel like you’re running out of time but that isn’t always true. It doesn’t take too long to write an essay (depending on the length and how well you know the subject of course!) so, don’t panic! It isn’t going to help you if you’re freaking out so instead take a deep breath before you start and relax. If you want to produce a good piece of work then it’s best to do it with a clear mind. Be confident in yourself because you can do it!

Write an essay plan

If there’s anything that can really help you get it done quick, it’s a plan. You might be wondering how to write an essay plan, so one way would be to plan your essay out paragraph by paragraph. You can plan your overall point for each paragraph with the examples and references you want to include to back up each point. Alternatively, you could use a mind map to develop your essay ideas. You can use your first point and branch off in more detail. Whichever way you decide to do it, it will give you a clear idea of what you want to write. Plus, it will avoid any waffling when you actually get down to writing, as you’ll know what you want to say in advance. Follow it step by step and you’ll have produced your essay in no time!

Use the marking scheme

As you work on your essay it’s a good idea to use the scheme that you will be marked against. You want to look at your essay as if you’re assessing it, then you’ll know how good it really is. It won’t take long and it’ll make sure you’ve written to the best of your ability. It’s a good idea to read the marking scheme before you start your essay so you can tailor it to where the marks are. However, you should read through it once you’ve finished too so you can edit wherever you need to improve. This will save you from completing other drafts because let’s be honest – you don’t have time! Use every available resource, it’ll help!

Have some friends proofread

Although the work has to be your own, there’s no harm in getting a couple of friends to check over it for you. It can be for things as simple as grammar and spelling, they will earn you a couple of extra marks! Once you’ve read over it a couple of times yourself, it’s easy to miss things so another pair of eyes is always a great help. If anyone you know is happy to have a look over it for you then make the most of it! It could be the difference between an average and good mark! There’s nothing better than a helping hand.

Remove any distractions

As easy as it is to have your attention pulled away to other things, it really won’t help you here. Get off Tiktok and get working! You don’t have time to be procrastinating with other things so don’t let it happen. Simply put yourself in a quieter room and put anything that’s going to distract you far away from your reach. You can reward yourself now and again if it’s going to help your concentration but be reasonable with yourself. You know deep down you’ll regret it if you let distractions ruin your essay, so don’t.

Be ready to submit before the deadline

You might be feeling pretty panicked as it is so there’s no point making it worse. Let yourself be ready to submit at least an hour before the deadline. There’s nothing worse than a last-minute panic when your internet starts slowing down! How to Write a 10-Page Essay Overnight

Regardless of how carefully you plan your academic studies, you may still be faced with a need to write a large paper in just one night. First of all, keep calm. Writing a 10-page essay overnight is nothing supernatural. You can do it if you properly organize your working process or get an urgent English essay help online.

17% OFF on your first order Type the code 17TUDENT

Before You Start

  • Determine your topic. If you are allowed to choose it at this point, pick the one you are most familiar with, or one that is rich in accessible material.
  • Break the topic into 3 to 5 sections, each being something you consider interesting to discuss. This way, you will have to write several two- or three-page papers instead of a single long one.
  • Make a brief outline of what you have to say. At the next stage, you will simply elaborate on these points.

The Writing Process

  • Begin with a thesis statement.
  • Make your introduction long and detailed. In a 10-page paper, it may occupy up to a whole page. Include a few sentences about each sub-topic you will discuss below.
  • Write each section as a separate mini-essay with its introduction, body, and conclusion. Give each section a spaced heading.
  • Compose your bibliography on the go. Once you quote any source, write its name down in your reference list.
  • Do not put your bibliography off until after you finish writing; you may simply get too tired to do it properly.
  • Create your first draft as quickly as possible, and do not edit while you write. Remember that it is better to submit a mediocre paper in time than to submit nothing at all.
  • Save your changes often.

The Final Steps

  • Once the paper is ready, email it to yourself. This way, it will be both safe from a sudden computer crash and available to you from a different location.
  • Take a break to refresh your mind, then read your essay carefully. Check it for consistency with your thesis statement. Pay special attention to the concluding paragraph.
  • If there is enough time, have another person proofread your paper.

Additional Tips

  • Use block quotes. If they are relevant to the subject, and you further develop and discuss their ideas, no teacher will accuse you of adding them simply to boost your page count.
  • Consider using footnotes.
  • If your essay is almost there but still not long enough, increase the inter-character spaces by 1 or 2 points to add the necessary volume. However, refrain from increasing font or margin size with the same purpose. Such attempts are too obvious and are generally frowned upon.

Your chance of acceptance, your chancing factors, extracurriculars, one-page essay sample.

Hi guys! So, I'm working on some college essays and a few of them require a one-page essay. I'm a little stuck... Does anyone have any tips or examples of good one-page essay samples that I could take a look at? It would be super helpful!

Hi there! Writing a one-page essay can indeed be challenging, but I'm here to offer some advice to help you craft a powerful and memorable piece. These tips can help kickstart your creativity:

1. Choose a unique topic: Select a topic that genuinely interests you and provides insight into your character, values, or experiences. Try to focus on a specific moment, event, or realization rather than a broad topic. This narrow focus will allow you to dive deeper and explore the nuances of that particular aspect, rather than stretching yourself too thin - one page isn't that long, after all.

2. Be concise with your words: One-page essays require you to be concise. Make sure to choose your words carefully and only include relevant information. Every sentence should serve a purpose and contribute to your overall message.

3. Have a clear structure: Introduce your topic in the first paragraph and offer some context. In the body of your essay, develop your ideas with specific examples and anecdotes. Conclude by summarizing your main points and tying everything back to your core theme. This approach helps create a coherent and well-structured piece.

4. Show, don't tell: Allowing your readers to visualize and experience your story through vivid descriptions and imagery. It's crucial to avoid generic statements, and instead focus on precise details, anecdotes, or examples that reveal your personality and perspective.

5. Be authentic: A one-page essay isn't the place to impress colleges with highbrow vocabulary or complex ideas. Instead, strive to be genuine and honest, by expressing your thoughts in your own voice. Don't be afraid to show your vulnerabilities, to humanize yourself and help you stand out from other talented students.

6. Revise and edit: After you finish writing, take a break and revisit your essay with fresh eyes. Make necessary changes to improve clarity, coherence, and flow, and ensure that your essay is free of grammatical and punctuation errors.

7. Take advantage of CollegeVine's resources: While not specifically about one-page essays, CollegeVine's blog has a detailed post breaking down how to tackle the Common App personal statement, which usually ends up being about one page: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-common-application-essays/. Additionally, CollegeVine offers both a free peer essay review tool and paid reviews by expert college admissions advisors - either of these resources can provide you with a more objective set of eyes that gives you a clearer sense of how effectively you're using your limited space.

Overall, one-page essays can be impactful if you focus on a specific experience, use vivid and descriptive language, and maintain an authentic voice. Keep practicing and refining your essay until you feel confident in the final product. Good luck with your college applications!

How do you write a 4-page essay in 5 hours?

I know it's norm for people to write their essays the last minutes possible, but how do you actually do it?

edit: I'm not about to write one myself but was just curious about how people managed to do it.

Also I meant A+/A essays.

As one of the people who plan to write at least 1 week ahead of time but only getting A/A-s, I think it's an exceptional skill to have.

How to Write a 1000-Word Essay in One Night and Not Lose Your Calm

Adela B.

Table of contents

It’s Sunday night, and you just realized that you haven’t even started writing your 1000-word essay that is due on Monday. How are you going to write it in one night, you wonder.

What follows is panic as you rack your brain, wondering where and how to begin.

Writing is an art. Every word you write mirrors your thoughts and ideas on paper.

Similarly, how you express these words is a way of expressing yourself. While essay writing is not rocket science, it certainly isn’t something you should take lightly as well.

The good news is there is hope, and you can write a 1,000-word essay in one night. In this article, you will learn how.

Writing a 1,000-word Essay in One Night: 4 Preparation Hacks

Preparation is key, especially when you’re expected to write an essay at the last moment. Let’s take a look at four tips to help you prepare for the long night.

#1. Plan your time

Time management is a high priority when you have only a few hours to write your essay. Thus, use your maximum efficiency and your fullest potential to complete the essay on time.

If you plan to just sit down and start writing, you may not be able to track your progress on each interval and see which section of the essay you spent the most time on.

Hence, you should base your essay portions on specific time intervals. For example, break your time into 45 mins and plan to complete each task of the paper in that time frame.

Keep one hour spare in the end to revise, edit, add visuals, recheck arguments, proofread, or even just to read it a couple of times to check the flow of the essay.

#2. Read the prompt carefully

It is critical to read the essay prompt carefully and not miss a single detail present in it, as there might be multiple important pieces of information that are required to be adhered to for completing the essay.

Guidelines like the number of sources to use, how to format the essay according to the professor’s requirement, writing in a particular tone and style, the target audience, or even just understanding the essay topic diligently are fundamental to follow to be able to craft a quality essay without any errors.

The worst thing that can happen after writing and completing your assignment is to learn that you deciphered the prompt incorrectly, or got confused with the type of expectations your professor had for this essay assignment, and now have nothing to submit.

So, read the prompt carefully.

#3. Use reliable sources for notes

As you start framing your essay, remember to refer to credible and reliable sources for your note-taking process.

Citing down your references in a bibliography is a must-needed step in your essay writing and forgetting to complete this step will bring down your grades drastically.

Having credible references and sources makes your essay seem completely thorough and well-researched, as well as gives your content more authority and authenticity.

#4. Create a rough outline of the structure

Before you begin to write your essay, build a rough outline of the important points you need to take note of, the short forms that will be used in the content, and the basic structure of your essay.

It’s important to also note down how you will introduce your essay , your thesis statement, all the points that have to be added in each paragraph, and the evidence that supports these claims.

A well-written outline gives the essay a structured flow, organized points, and no extra fluff, and makes it easier for the readers, or in this case, your professors, to read and understand your essay easily.

Additionally, the outline also helps the writer to not forget important points and arguments that were to be made in the essay.

Here’s How You Can Write a 1,000-word Essay in One Night

Now that we know that preparing before executing is highly primal when, you have to write your essay in one night. Let’s see how we can write a 1000-word essay in one night and do a good job at it.

Write in an appropriate environment

Usually, people don't think too much about the space in which they sit to work . But this is a very important step for writers to take care of to execute flawless and organized pieces of writing.

To write quality articles, blogs , essays, etc., choose an appropriate, peaceful, and distraction-free environment.

Create a mood around you where you are motivated to work so that you can hear your thoughts and express them in words, as well as come up with ideas that can be written down in the best way.

A library or a study nook at your home is the best place to concentrate thoroughly on writing assignments. Switch off your phone, log out of your social media, grab a cup of your favorite beverage, focus on your approach, and write away.

Create an effective plan

It is very important to have a plan to succeed in a task without any complications or errors. Having an effective and smart plan will make any challenging, confusing, or complex task more organized , thorough, and easy to execute.

So, before you begin your essay, think of the following topics, and plan out your entire process of writing the essay:

  • The word limit or essay length ;
  • Creating the thesis statement;
  • Major topics and points to be covered in the essay;
  • A basic outline of the essay’s structure;
  • Examples, references, evidence to cite;
  • Images, GIFS, infographics, or videos to embed (if needed);
  • Suggestions and recommendations.

Once you plan out your essay by having the answers to all these questions, it becomes much easier to frame the entire essay in a short time.

Do thorough research for your essay

Writing a 1000-word essay for your assignment without doing any full-fledged research on your topic, will just nudge you into failure.

Researching to write content that is fresh, informative, and credible is the only way that your professor will deem your essay as a quality piece of writing. Furthermore, you need data and references to back all your arguments and claims.

For example, when you research a topic, you come across multiple sites and reliable sources where you can take out necessary information and data to frame your essay.

As you go further, when you start writing down your points and details that make the content of your paper, you might need to go back to your references sometime or other for help or confirmation.

Place realistic and attainable goals

Don't think about trying to finish your essay in 30 minutes. It is going to end up being poorly executed, with no flow or organized arguments.

Additionally, you would probably have an essay riddled with silly spelling mistakes and grammatical errors that could have been avoided if you took advantage of the entire time you have on your hands to work on drafting a perfect, well-researched, top-quality essay.

Aim for realistic and achievable targets that can be accomplished by you. Sort of a specific time frame to complete the task you’ve assigned yourself for each of these intervals. Take a short break after finishing major portions of your essay, to avoid being stressed or overburdened.

Never forget to edit and proofread

Never leave proofreading your essay as a last resort. It shouldn’t be something that you will only do if you have enough time and energy after working on the entire essay.

Proofreading is a must because when you revise and re-read your essay, you will end up finding mistakes or slip-ups that you could have made while writing in a hurry.

These slip-ups would eventually bring down the entire purpose of writing the essay and decrease your chances of getting a good grade. That is why, resolving these issues after proofreading is critical, to laying out a perfect and flawless essay assignment.

Ideally, you should plan out your essay in such a way that there is enough time, in the end, to revise and edit, wherever necessary.

In conclusion, it is best not to panic and rush the process since writing your essay assignment in one night with a composed head will help immensely in thinking straight and completing a great paper.

Just How Long Does It Take to Write 6 Pages? It’s Complicated.

Just How Long Does It Take to Write 6 Pages? It’s Complicated.

Do six-page essays and papers get assigned? Sure they do. And how many words is a 6-page paper? Well, 6 pages double spaced is somewhere between 1500 and 1650 words. And how long does it take to write 6 pages? Here are the variables:

  • How good is the writer? Those with skills tend to write much faster than those without
  • How much research is required?
  • What is the topic and the purpose? A primarily factual 6-page essay on a simple topic will obviously go faster than one that is argumentative and entails a more complex topic.

How to Write a 6-Page Paper

How to Write a 6-Page Paper

If you are assigned an essay or paper and your instructor designates a length of 6 pages, you will need to use the same process that you would use to write any essay or paper, but the restriction to six pages will impact exactly how you proceed.

  • Selecting a Topic

This may be the most difficult part of your task. You have to choose a topic that can be covered in six pages, obviously. This means picking a general topic area that you have an interest in and then narrowing that topic down to one that is manageable in six pages.

If you do have a topic area of great interest, you might want to a bit of research and look at sample essays or papers that are of the same approximate length, take a look at the topics those writers chose, and try to choose something comparable.

  • The Research

The other important aspect of how to write a six-page essay or paper does relate to research. Generally, the longer a paper is, the more sources should be used. The six-page length should probably have about four source materials. And, as is always the case with a college level work, it is critical to use high quality resources – primary if possible. If not primary, then secondary resources should be from known experts in the field.

  • Organizing the Research into Sub-Topics

This step is the same when you write any type of essay or paper that has required research. With a six-page paper, you may have three-four sub-topics, each of which will consume between four-five pages. The rest will be our introduction and conclusion.

  • The Rough Draft

One of the things that definitely does not change when you think about how to write a six-page paper is that you do not skip the important writing steps. The rough draft is just that – a rough draft. It is not your final piece. Write it and then take a break from it.

  • Review and Revise

Carefully review what you have written. Read it out loud to make sure it “sounds” right to you. Check your grammar and punctuation. Make sure it flows logically from one section to the next.

  • Write the Introduction Last

Your introduction should capture interest immediately – find a creative or shocking beginning and then lead your reader to your thesis statement.

So, how long does it take to write a 6-page paper? It really is complicated, and it does depend on you. Of course, if you need a fast solution for an urgent due date, you may want to find a writing service that can get it done well. At first, she was known simply as “the woman in the black dress.”

In a grainy video, you can see her, lying on her back, dress torn, legs spread, vagina exposed. Her face is burned beyond recognition and her right hand covers her eyes.

The video was shot in the early hours of Oct. 8 by a woman searching for a missing friend at the site of the rave in southern Israel where, the day before, Hamas terrorists massacred hundreds of young Israelis .

The video went viral, with thousands of people responding, desperate to know if the woman in the black dress was their missing friend, sister or daughter.

One family knew exactly who she was — Gal Abdush, mother of two from a working-class town in central Israel, who disappeared from the rave that night with her husband.

As the terrorists closed in on her, trapped on a highway in a line of cars of people trying to flee the party, she sent one final WhatsApp message to her family: “You don’t understand.”

Based largely on the video evidence — which was verified by The New York Times — Israeli police officials said they believed that Ms. Abdush was raped, and she has become a symbol of the horrors visited upon Israeli women and girls during the Oct. 7 attacks.
