This study aims to review the literature in green supply chain management (GSCM) published from 1998 to 2017 and presenting insights and directions for future research. The study collects data from Scopus and ISI Web of Science databases and objectively selects 880 papers and conducts metadata analysis. In addtion, 236 papers from ISI Web of Science is analyzed to present the insights along with the classifications of the literatures based on content analyses, which comprises of conceptual development, drivers and barriers, collaboration with supply chain partners, mathematical and other optimization models, and assessment of green supply chain management practices and performance. The study finds that research on drivers or barriers analysis of green supply chain management reveals a declining trend while there is a growing trend of applying mathematical optimization models for enhancing decision making in pursuit of environmental performance. Moreover, the study finds a consistent growth in the evaluation of green supply chain management practices and performance. Though, the concept of green supply chain management started gaining popularity among academicians from the beginning of the 20 th century, this study finds a sharp growth of publications on the topic after 2010 until now. This study identifies influential authors, top journals, top contributing countries, top contributing institutions and contribution by disciplines. This study presents a comprehensive but straightforward conceptual model of green supply chain management. The findings and future research directions of the study offers a new avenue for further exploration and contribution to this discipline.

Sustainability and environmental concerns have been important topics of discussion in recent decades. Green supply chain management assures the effectiveness of public and company policies in greening their operations, increasing the market share, improving the company image and reputation, and increasing profits. The objective of this article is to propose a conceptual framework that considers dimensions, categories, and practices in green supply chain management. After an extensive review of the literature, we identified models and a set of green dimensions, categories, and practices used for green supply chain management. From the analysis of the findings, we propose a conceptual framework that is organized into 3 environmental dimensions, 21 categories, and 64 green practices. The framework can contribute to the literature, given that empirical studies mostly select a limited set of dimensions to evaluate supply chain green practices. Finally, this study offers directions for fu...

There is a growing need for integrating environmentally sound choices into supply-chain management research and practice. Perusal of the literature shows that a broad frame of reference for green supply-chain management (GrSCM) is not adequately developed. Regulatory bodies that formulate regulations to meet societal and ecological concerns to facilitate growth of business and economy also suffer from its absence. A succinct classification to help academicians, researchers and practitioners in understanding integrated GrSCM from a wider perspective is needed. Further, sufficient literature is available to warrant such classification. This paper takes an integrated and fresh look into the area of GrSCM. The literature on GrSCM is covered exhaustively from its conceptualization, primarily taking a ‘reverse logistics angle’. Using the rich body of available literature, including earlier reviews that had relatively limited perspectives, the literature on GrSCM is classified on the basis of the problem context in supply chain's major influential areas. It is also classified on the basis of methodology and approach adopted. Various mathematical tools/techniques used in literature vis-à-vis the contexts of GrSCM are mapped. A timeline indicating relevant papers is also provided as a ready reference. Finally, the findings and interpretations are summarized, and the main research issues and opportunities are highlighted.

— As economies increasingly move towards embracing global supply chains there is a pressing need to pay attention to bringing down the environmental impact of these supply chains. One such emerging alternative concept is that of green supply chain management which amalgamates the effectiveness of supply chains with concern for environmental impact. This paper presents an exhaustive literature review and a comprehensive discussion of green supply management (GSCM) ranging from the genesis of supply chain management to the contemporary practices emanating in the field of green supply chain management, its benefits and the challenges ahead in this field.

Green supply chain management is defined as the process of using environmentally friendly inputs and transforming these inputs into outputs that can be reclaimed and re-used at the end of their life cycle thus, creating a sustainable supply chain. GSCM is one of the recent innovations for the enhancement of capabilities of Supply Chain Management. The purpose of this paper is to carry out a theoretical review of Green supply chain management (GSCM). The assessment involved 144 research articles published in 48 selected journals between 1998 and 2013. The methodology of empirical research involved selection and classification of 144 research articles in GSCM. A systematic classification and a critical analysis is carried out so as to identify research gaps in content of GSCM, as well as to recommend directions for future research. It is concluded from the analysis of the results that research in GSCM is increasing at a faster rate than ever; with theory building more in focus than verification. Furthermore, a new taxonomy was proposed on the basis of content and research methodology utilised. Based on this taxonomy, significant trends were observed and some unique inferences were drawn, apart from identifying the directions for future research. There have been a couple of literature reviews in GSCM but none of them focused exclusively on research methodology in GSCM. Also the sample size with respect to the number of papers (144 papers), as well as number of journals (48 journals), is larger than ever considered for literature review in GSCM. The papers spans a longer time period of 16 years (1998-2013).

The evolution of supply chain management like green supply chain management and sustainable supply chain implementation has been done with a great speed in previous two decades. Because of it researchers have examined it and defined it many times .The purpose of this paper is to review those definitions over the period of last 20 years .For this ,paper has surveyed approximately 100 papers published in high impact factor journals.

Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) has appeared as an environmental innovation which integrates environmental concerns into supply chain management. GSCM has gained popularity with both academic and practitioners. The purpose of the paper is to briefly review the recent literatures of the GSCM and also determine the new direction area of this emerging field. A detailed review is used to sort out the literature and develop the research direction of the study. The review is focused on development of GSCM in a developed and developing countries including all those researchers which is relevant to environmental and social sustainability towards operation management and the supply chain. It shows that lack researches to examine the adoption and implementation of GSCM practices especially in developing countries such as Malaysia. Thus, the authors bring forward a proposed research direction on GSCM adoption and implementation in Malaysia's manufacturing industries.

Economic growth combined with industrialization brought negative repercussions, notably the depletion of resources and environmental challenges. In light of new global consumption patterns, unprecedented challenges arise for Supply Chain Management (SCM). Given the magnitude and consequences of this issue, there is a gap in the literature that explores the relationship between supply chains (SC) and sustainable development (SD). In this context, this article analyzes the interdependence between SC and SD, considering the impact of consuming products and services on sustainable issues. This study also aims to categorize the subtypes of SC most frequently discussed in the literature and identify the methodologies most used in research on sustainable chains. This study was conducted through a systematic literature review (SLR) in the Scopus database, following a research protocol validated by the literature. The analysis was conducted on the textual corpus of 485 articles published in the last decade. The results indicate a High interdependence between SC and SD, with environmental sustainability as the most firmly established theme. However, there has also been a consolidation of social and economic sustainability. In the theoretical field, it is necessary to establish the Circular Economy as a field of research and relate it to SC. In the practical and managerial field, attention must remain focused on food SC, which needs to be well explored, mainly to avoid food waste, which affects sustainability in all areas of the triple bottom line. This research innovates by exploring the interrelationship between (SC) and (SD) through a comprehensive approach that goes beyond geographic boundaries and specific categorizations of SC. While many previous studies have focused on niches or specific geographic contexts, the present research breaks with this norm by considering SC’s global and multifaceted character, aligned with the vastness and complexity of SD. The adopted approach differentiates this work from others in the field. It reflects the magnitude and depth necessary to understand and propose practical solutions to the challenges interconnecting SC and SD in the contemporary scenario.
