Absolute Rubbish flick. Even die hard Balakrishna Fans should skip this self aggrandizing non sense. Shruthi looks like Balakrishna's grand daughter. Even CGI, stunt doubles, over the top dialogues, rubbish songs, fowl language can save this disaster

Nandamuri Balakrishna holds the film together and it's quite literally a one-man show.

The troubling part of Veera Simha Reddy, by that token most of Balakrishna's movies, is that it argues it's okay to kill to solve a problem.

Full Review | Original Score: 0.5/5 | Nov 16, 2023

Balakrishna’s earlier films such as Simha and Legend, despite using the same beats, attempted to offer something new. But Veera Simha Reddy doesn’t.

Given that the film is right on time for Sankranthi, some of the dialogues might not exactly make it a family-friendly watch. But if you’re a Balakrishna fan, this one’s for you.

Tollywood star actor Balakrishna is back with another powerful movie, Veera Simha Reddy. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the movie hit screens today. Let’s see how the film is.

Jaya Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) lives with his mother, Meenakshi (Honey Rose), in Istanbul. He falls in love with Eesha (Shruti Haasan) and decides to marry her. Then Meenakshi reveals the identity of Jaya’s father, Veera Simha Reddy, who lives in Rayalaseema and rules Pulicharla. Bhanumathi (Varalaxmi) and Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) want to kill Veera Simha Reddy for the past 30 years. Why do they want to kill Veera? Who is Bhanumathi? Why did Veera Simha Reddy leave his wife and son? All these questions will be answered in the main movie.

Plus Points:

The first plus point to mention is Nandamuri Balakrishna. He solely lifts the entire film on his shoulders. The royal look of Balayya, his charisma, swag, and style are the biggest assets. The dialogue delivery and his aggressive nature in action sequences are powerful. Balakrishna once again proved that he is the god of the masses. His performance in emotional scenes, especially in the second half, needs to be appreciated. He also surprises with his energetic dance moves in a couple of songs.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s performance as Bhanumathi will surprise audiences. She has done many aggressive roles earlier but, her character is designed in a good manner in this movie and her face-off scenes with Balayya are terrific and she aces them. Her performance in the second half is one of the major assets of the movie.

The other character that needs to be appreciated is Pratap Reddy, played by Duniya Vijay, who wants to take revenge on Veera Simha Reddy. His ruthlessness is showcased in a wonderful way. This is his Tollywood debut film, and the TFI witnesses another outstanding performer in the role of a villain. His face-off scenes with Balakrishna are good to watch, and they are definitely whistle worthy.

Honey Rose makes a decent debut and she gets a good scope to perform in many scenes. Lal as Siddappa, Naveen Chandra as Sekhar and others justified their respective roles.

The screenplay is racy in the first half and the director designs each and every character very well. With this film, one can feel that Gopichand can also direct an out-and-out action entertainer. Songs are good and so is the background score. Ram and Lakshman once again proved that they can design stunts that make people sit on the edge of their seats.

Minus Points:

The story falls in the first place in this aspect. The director chooses a standard story that was seen in many movies earlier. But, by writing a neat screenplay, he runs the show very well. The second half is a bit lengthy and draggy compared to the first half. In the meantime, it’s predictable too. Most of the scenes in the second half should have been chopped off, especially in the flashback episode.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar gets a meaty role in this movie but her old look is not that much impressive. She looks pale in many scenes and the makeup artists should have taken better care of her look.

Shruti Haasan is just limited to songs and a few scenes. She is impressive as a dancer but the director should have written a few more scenes for her, at least in the second half. Eeswari Rao is of no use in the film.

Technical Aspects:

The director is a winner in writing a terrific screenplay that runs well in the first half and slows down in the latter half. The second half is laggy in many places. The director should have concentrated more on the story, which can make the film more interesting.

Some scenes in the flashback episode need to be chopped off to make the film a better experience. Camerawork by Rishi Punjabi and score by Thaman are praiseworthy. They made the movie a terrific one with their outstanding work. The art department also gives its best. The production values are so rich and you can see them on the big screen.

On the whole, Veera Simha Reddy is a decent action entertainer that has all the commercial elements to entertain Balakrishna fans. Balakrishna as Veera Simha Reddy is outstanding, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar also stuns everyone with her performance. The second half disappoints much, and if it had been engaging like the first half, the film would have been a blockbuster at the box office. It’s a feast for fans, and it would be a decent experience for action lovers. Give it a watch this Sankranthi to enjoy the mass of Balayya.

Veera Simha Reddy Movie Review: Balakrishna packs a punch in this template action entertainer

Director gopichandh malineni’s veera simha reddy, starring balakrishna, honey rose and shruti haasan, is a formulaic action entertainer with a heavy dose of action. the story, however, has nothing new to offer, says our review..

Listen to Story

Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy hit the theatres on January 12.

  • Veera Simha Reddy hit the theatres on January 12.
  • Balakrishna plays two roles in the film.
  • The commercial entertainer is directed by Gopichandh Malineni.

Release Date: 12 Jan, 2023

Nandamuri Balakrishna is back with yet another dual act after the enjoyable Akhanda. With Veera Simha Reddy, he treats his fans to another fun commercial entertainer, which also reminds us of old films with similar storylines. Does Veera Simha Reddy have enough meat to impress the audience? Here, we find out!

Jai (Balakrishna) and his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) have a car dealership business and a restaurant, respectively. Jai meets Sandhya (Shruti Haasan) and falls in love with her. When Sandhya’s father asks Jai to bring his parents to finalise the wedding, he gets to learn that his father Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna again) is alive. However, when Veera Simha Reddy comes to Turkey, things take a drastic turn. The rest of the film shows us Veera Simha Reddy and Honey Rose’s past and why they aren’t together.

Director Gopichandh Malineni’s Veera Simha Reddy is as formulaic as it can get. If you have a two-hero subject with the brother-sister sentiment, you get a set of clichéd moments as you have seen in films so far. All those moments (and more) are part of Veera Simha Reddy and that’s what makes it fun too. It’s a delight to see Nandamuri Balakrishna owning the screen even though the roles are similar to what he had done in his previous films.

Be it the over-the-top action sequences or his punch dialogues, they are aplenty in Veera Simha Reddy. In an action scene, Balakrishna strikes and two men fold hands in mid-air. These are action blocks that are enjoyable, typical of what can be expected out of a Balayya film. Among the two roles, Veera Simha Reddy's characterisation was etched well. And Balakrishna essayed both roles with such swag.

Veera Simha Reddy also has some strong political dialogues, which brought a lot of cheer among the audience.Balayya is seen talking about his father NTR and his lineage. And then, there’s Balayya praising himself!

That said, Veera Simha Reddy’s story has nothing new to offer. We get the brother-sister sentiment and how revenge clouds one’s judgement. There’s objectification of women and the problematic male gaze throughout the film and the songs as well. Seeing Honey Rose playing mother to Jai (Balakrishna), the odd pairing is sticking up like a sore thumb. Even though Rose’s makeup suggested that she’s old enough to be a mother, it didn’t add any novelty.

Shruti Haasan’s role could have been done by anyone. The so-called comedy sequences are as old as the hills and did not bring in any laughs. And her character vanishes after the initial half an hour. Comparatively, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar gets a meatier role as Veera Simha Reddy’s sister. She has a full-fledged character arc and has done her best to stay true to her role. Similarly, Duniya Vijay as the antagonist looked deadly. However, his role lacked the punch that was needed to take on two Balakrishnas.

Veera Simha Reddy is a film that reeks of clichéd ideas. While most of them work, the lack of depth in the story made it an average affair.

Veera Simha Reddy movie review: Without Nandamuri Balakrishna's energetic presence the film would be boring

Veera simha reddy movie review: nandamuri balakrishna holds the film together and it’s quite literally a one-man show. the film also stars shruti haasan, honey rose, duniya vijay and murali sharma..

In Telugu cinema, if the term one-man show can be aptly attributed to someone, then it’s Nandamuri Balakrishna ’s name that immediately comes to mind. The man, who’s in his sixties, is one of the biggest entertainers the industry has produced in a long time. Over the years, scenes from his movies have served as meme material on social media, but that hasn’t diluted or impacted the fandom he enjoys. All of this applies to his latest release Veera Simha Reddy, too, which is a millionth iteration of the same story set against the backdrop of Rayalaseema. Also read: Pawan Kalyan makes TV debut on Nadamuri Balakrishna’s chat show

Veera Simha Reddy movie review: Nandamuri Balakrishna in a still from the Telugu film.

The film opens in Istanbul, where a group of foreigners walk into an Indian restaurant that serves Rayalaseema cuisine. The restaurant is run by India-born Meenakshi (Honey Rose), who is threatened to sell the property and sign the papers by next morning. Cut to next scene, we see her son Jai (Balakrishna) deal with the situation in the most predictable way – a fight sequence. But this isn’t the best part of the movie. The story quickly shifts to Rayalaseema, where we’re introduced to Jai’s father Veera Simha Reddy (also played by Balakrishna), who rules over Kurnool. He’s the saviour of his village and not a single soul dares to talk back to him. However, one Prathap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) has been yearning to avenge the death of his father by killing Veera Simha Reddy, but all his plans so far have backfired.

For many years, Telugu filmmakers have used factionalism as a backdrop to narrate interesting stories. But what they’ve failed to bring to the forefront is the mindset behind the faction wars. Instead of understanding the psyche of the people, who’ve dedicated their lives fighting the faction wars, filmmakers have majorly focused on the violence and have used cinema as a medium to glorify it. The same approach is followed in Veera Simha Reddy as well. The film thrives on violence and some exquisitely shot action sequences, which are a treat to watch. As the central character Veera Simha Reddy, Balakrishna holds the film together and it’s quite literally a one-man show.

It’s not the story or the performances that really keep one invested in the film. It’s the pure madness the action sequences bring to the big screen viewing experience along with SS Thaman’s electric background score that makes Veera Simha Reddy likable to a large extent. If not for Balakrishna’s energetic screen presence, which makes the most mundane scenes fun to watch, this would’ve been a tiresome watch. Duniya Vijay as the antagonist is an interesting choice, but he hardly gets to do much other than screaming his lungs out throughout the movie. Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar is the only other actor from the supporting cast, who gets a meaty part, a Neelambari-inspired character from Padayappa, which she pulls off effortlessly.

Veera Simha Reddy's story is about the life of a father and son in Rayalaseema and how they deal with the faction and family rivalry and ensure the development of the people of the region. Jai Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) is the doting son of his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) who runs a restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey. He falls in love with a beautiful girl Eesha ( Shruti Haasan), the daughter of businessman Jayaram (Murali Sharma). On the verge of his marriage, he comes to know the secret about his father Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna). Why his mother hides his father's truth from him and what it got to do with Musali Madugu Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay), Bhanumati (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar), Shekar (Naveen Chandra), businessman Rajagopal (Sachin Khedekar) in Pulicharla, Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh form the rest of the story.

Veera Simha Reddy Movie : Artists Review

Balakrishna got the roles tailormade for him. Viewers have seen him in such roles earlier and for umpteen times. But Balakrishna for some reason decided to give the green signal to the project despite his roles being routine and also the story offered nothing new. He danced with full energy and performance stunts in a powerful manner. His dialogues, mannerisms, and screen presence is nothing new but he performed well.

Shruti Haasan played the female lead. She is gorgeous and gave ample beauty treat on screen in the songs. She competed with Balakrishna with mass moves. She got a silly role to the core and her dialogues are also comical. Honey Rose, a Malayalee actor who made her debut as Balakrishna's wife, performed well and she proved her acting talent. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar stole the show with stunning and powerful emotions. She made a stunning impact with her screen presence and she performed well during the pre-climax.

Duniya Vijay in his first Telugu film looked menacing on screen. He made his presence felt locking horns with Balakrishna. But for all the hype, his character turned into a caricature later. Chandrika Ravi sizzled in a special song and she entertained masses with her looks. Naveen Chandra played an important role. Brahmanandam, Ali,Sapthagiri,Sachin Khedekar,Ravishankar, Murali Sharma performed according to their roles.

Veera Simha Reddy : Technicians Review

The story of Veera Simha Reddy readied by director Gopichand Malineni offered nothing new. Younger Balakrishna is introduced highlighting his love for his mother in Istanbul. This set the stage to elevate the heroism of Balakrishna to another level. However, in order to introduce the heroine Shruti Haasan, the director pulled back and some silly scenes follow testing the patience of the viewers. Shruti Haasan's role looked dumb and silly. Gopichand Malineni concentrated on highlighting the beauty of Shruti Haasan rather than her character.

Gopichand Malineni spent most of the time concentrating on elevating the heroism of Balakrishna to another level and included many high-octane scenes featuring Balakrishna. The stunts are choreographed quite well but most of the time, Balakrishna is enacting similar types of stunts for the most part of the film. The first half ends in a routine and monotonous manner with predictable narration and people walk out to experience better second half with one interesting twist.

But the interval twist in the first half diluted the film's tempo and from then on the entire second half though loaded with emotions failed to take off to the next level. During the climax, intensity levels increase with the presence of Balakrishna and finally the film ends in a routine and monotonous way. Gopichand Malineni's story is extremely weak and he tried to make up for it with the heroic elevations of Balakrishna. The screenplay is outdated but silly most of the time and the direction left a lot to be desired.

Thaman's music for a few songs is foot-tapping and loaded with mass vibes. The songs are shot in a beautiful way and choreographed with mass moves. His background music is ok but most of the time it turned extremely loud. It however failed to give the desired impact. Rishi Punjabi's cinematography is natural and beautiful. He showed the Rayalaseema region in a realistic way and Turkey's locations in an aesthetic manner. Naveen Nooli's editing could have been far better. There are many routine scenes that affected the film and could have been done away with it. However, had he done so, most of the film's scenes would have been done away with. Dialogues penned by Sai Madhav Burra had few political vibes. The dialogues targeted the current political scenario. Except for those dialogues, most of the other dialogues are written in a convenient and haphazard manner and at times missed logic and failed to connect the dots, and did not justify the intensity and intent of the characters. Production values of Mythri Movie Makers are rich.

Veera Simha Reddy Movie : Rating Analysis

Altogether, Expectations soared on Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy as he is coming after scoring a resounding hit with Akhanda and rewriting the records at the box office. Gopichand Malineni's direction left many craving for wholesome entertainment during Sankranti. However, Gopichand Malineni disappointed all with Veer Simha Reddy output as he did not work on the story. He just tried to elevate the heroism of Balakrishna in dual roles and it did not come with any twists. Everyone passes through the motions and Gopichand Malineni's screenplay failed to connect chords. It lacked a realistic feel and the entire film tested the patience of the viewers. The direction followed the same template and did not try any deviations. Overall, Veera Simha Reddy offered nothing new and instead offered routine product. People are left wondering why Balakrishna is doing such a routine mass masala entertainers continuously. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 Rating for Veera Simha Reddy .

Veera Simha Reddy movie review: This Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer has no soul

Veera simha reddy movie review: the troubling part of veera simha reddy, by that token most of balakrishna's movies, is that it argues it's okay to kill to solve a problem..

veera simha reddy movie review rating

Filmmaker Gopichand Malineni is a lazy filmmaker and case in point is his latest directorial Veera Simha Reddy. Starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role, the film demands from the audience absolute, unconditional and unquestioning loyalty. If you can’t agree to these terms, then this movie has almost nothing to offer, except the hyper-stylized violent sequences.

The opening moments of a film are very important as it enjoys the audience’s absolute attention. And a competent filmmaker would put his best effort to make the opening of the movie memorable. But, not Gopichand. The film’s opening scene is so generic that it fades away from our memory minutes after we watch it. The story opens in Istanbul, where Meenakshi (Honey Rose) is running a restaurant, serving ragi mudde and country chicken curry. For some reason, a hotel mogul wants to buy her small business. She says no and he slaps her. It gives her son and our hero Jai Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) to beat the hotel mogul and his men to a pulp. And then there is a flow of utterly unrealistic sequences that numb our brains.

veera simha reddy movie review rating

It suffices to say that Jai meets Eesha (Shruti Haasan) and takes it upon himself to tame her arrogance and turn her into an ideal woman. If you have watched this trope once, you have watched it a million times. And as expected, it works. Now Eesha’s father wants to meet Jai’s parents to fix their marriage. And finally, Meenakshi decides to tell Jai the truth about his father, Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna, again).

Veera is the defender of helpless people in the Rayalaseema district. Here the film expects us to take a gigantic cognitive leap that in Rayalaseema there is no rule of law. Like in ancient times, the villages in that place are being ruled by uncrowned kings. Some kings are good and some are bad. No prizes for guessing to which category Veera belongs. But, there is a bad ruler named Gangi Reddy, who’s terrorising his people. Gangi is a textbook psychopath who has no value for life. Veera prevails over Gangi and rescues the people in the village. Now, Gangi’s son Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) vows to avenge his father. This is just part of the flashback. In another part, we see Veera repeatedly sparing the life of Pratap. Why is Veera not killing Pratap?

Everything that happens in this film is something we have seen Balakrishna do 100 times before. Didn’t he do the same things in his last film? Yes, he did. And he will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. For Balakrishna, creating material for self-serving purposes takes precedence over creating an honest work of entertainment for people’s enjoyment. In that process, Balakrishna invented a new genre for himself. It’s called the Jai Balayya genre. The film made in this genre with this star is all about adulation and blind loyalty. People with even the slightest inclination to think independently, can’t help but feel repulsed by what’s unspooling on the screen.

Festive offer

The troubling part of Veera Simha Reddy, by that token most of Balakrishna’s movies, is that it argues it’s okay to kill to solve a problem. And the act of killing someone is directly connected to one’s manliness. If you are man enough, you will kill. If not, you will get killed. There’s nothing more at stake here except for a few inflated egos of men who have toxic relationships with their manliness. This film has no soul or clarity. It’s just a series of senseless, make-believe violence strung together to propagate a false message that violence could fix all problems.

Even an AI tool can come up with a better plot than Gopichand.

These assertions are based on so little evidence that it is not just Muslims he has alienated but millions of Hindus who do not believe that ethnic and communal tensions will help India.

Sankranti festival for Telugu Cinema begins with Veera Simha Reddy. Nandamuri Balakrishna is on the rage with Akhanda’s blockbuster success and Unstoppable show. He collaborated with Gopichandh Malineni for a pakka mass potboiler that has all ingredients to satiate his die-hard fans. The trailer of Veera Simha Reddy set the festive mood. This Sankranthi began with Balayya. Let’s find out what this film is up to.

What Is It About?

Jai (Balakrishna) and his mother Meenakshi (Honeyrose) live in Turkey. Jai and Sandhya (Shruti Haasan) fall in love with each other. Meenakshi reveals Jai for the first time about his father Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna). Veera Simha has a past and it will haunt him in Istanbul also. Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) and his wife Banumati (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) want to kill Veera Simha Reddy. What is their grudge and will they succeed? The answers to these form the story.

Performances

Balayya entices fans as Veera Simha Reddy. From his attire in black to his mannerisms with desi cigars, Balayya matches perfectly for Veera Simha Reddy’s role. He excels in dialogues and fights in a pure mass avatar for Veera Simha Reddy. The second Balakrishna as Jai’s role is half-baked and lacks a stand. Though the character has a limited screen space, it looks aimless mostly.

Shruti Haasan is strictly restricted to songs and very few scenes. Honey Rose gets an important role and she did fine.  Duniya Vijay gets a lengthy role as the main villain in the movie. He fails as the villain opposite Balayya.

Duniya Vijay’s character looks weak and remains one of the strong drawbacks in the film. His routine consists of attacking, getting beaten, rinsing, and repeating. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar appears in a crucial role. She did alright. Though her role is intense, the emotional disconnect in the second half impacted her role.

Technicalities

Visuals and fights are on par with Balayya’s recent successful films. But the story and the making are where the movie dips down. A few elevation scenes and some intense dialogues worked very well. The ‘Pub’ dialogue and the ‘Pogaru in DNA’ dialogues along with others had whistles in theaters. Background music is loud and only impressive in certain parts. All the songs are pure mass.Maa Baava Manobhaavalu is sure a treat for mass loving audience. The lengthy run time is a big culprit. Editing could have been better.

Balakrishna as Veera Simha Reddy Some Dialogues

Thumbs Down

Routine Story Weak Villain Poor Second Half

Veera Simha Reddy is all about a factionist who wants to be the last one of them. While the stories of the faction itself are dated, the director should have had a strong base for his story. Unfortunately, he did not.

Veera Simha Reddy has an inactive first half an hour with the boring track of Shruti Haasan and poor comedy. The movie’s actual story kicks off with Veera Simha Reddy’s introduction. The first half does well with heroism, elevation, and some intense dialogues. Though the flow is predictable, the first half of the movie runs by Veera Simha Reddy’s character alone. Veera Simha Reddy visiting the Home Minister’s meeting is a good scene to watch. The interval scene is an emotional one leaving the first half on a decent note.

The second half turns rather slow and sluggish with a routine story unveiled in a dragged mode. There are many routine challenges and counter challenges in the vintage seema backdrop. The emotion in the cringy second half is hard to connect with. There are one too many fights in the movie that might entice fans. The flashback episodes in the latter part are too lengthy and anything that is left apart from it is songs and flights again. The main drawback of the film is the lack of emotional connection.

The second half slowly turns into a patience tester with the flashback scenes and Jai taking up the place of Veera Simha Reddy. The director who elevated Veera Simha Reddy with many dialogues failed to put up at least half of it for Jai’s character, which in the end becomes clueless. The pre-climax episodes of Varalaxmi work well, but they could not repair the damage done by the flashback.

Veera Simha Reddy has everything that Balayya’s previous hit films had, except the well-written story and the direction. The director tried to mimic Balayya’s blockbuster films directed by Boyapati Srinu, by recreating the homam scenes, references of ugranarasimham, and the intense blood bath. But what he could bring is just them but not the actual emotion, thrill and the originality.

Having said that, Veera Simha Reddy is an old routine story with a predictable flow. Overall, Veera Simha Reddy is an average movie that is strictly for fans and the movie could work well in B and C centers given the festival season.

Bottomline: Narukudu – Urukudu

Rating: 2.75/5

Amid high expectations, Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Veera Simha Reddy under the direction of Gopichand Malineni has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it fares.

Story: The film opens in Istanbul where Jay( Balakrishna) will be leading a happy life with his mother Meenakshi ( Honey Rose). Accidentally, Jay crosses paths with Isha( Shruti Haasan). Eventually, Isha connects with Jay. Noticing the same, Meenakshi keeps the marriage proposal in front of Isha’s family. For further marriage discussions, Meenakshi rings Veera Simha Reddy( elder Balakrishna) who lives alone in Pulicherla in the Kurnool district of Rayalaseema. What is the relationship between Veera Simha Reddy and Meenakshi’s family? How Bhanumati ( Varalakshmi Sarathkumar) and her husband Pratap Reddy( Duniya Vijay) are interconnected with Veera Simha Reddy’s life, forms crucial crux.

Performances: Undoubtedly, Balakrishna is a major asset for the film. His avatar as an aged factionist from Rayalaseema is superb. His screen presence with swag brings the required energy to all key scenes.

Especially, Balayya’s settled emotional acting during the interval block brings depth to the entire block. On the other hand, Balayya is okay with his getup in the young look. Balayya’s dances in two songs will be a treat to watch for the fans. Shruti Haasan is okay with her limited screen time. Except for songs, Shruti Haasan’s role has nothing to do with the movie proceedings.

Malayalam actress Honey Rose is impressive with her acting in the given key role. She has been showcased in two dimensions and her performance registers well. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar is a surprise package for the film. Her acting adds weight to the flashback portions and a few scenes in the second half. Duniya Vijay is amazing in his negative shaded character. The face-off scenes between Pratap Reddy and Veera Simha Reddy are shot well.

Other artists such as Ajay Ghosh, Murali Sharma and Sapathagiri are okay in their limited roles.

Technicalities: The photography work by Rushi Panjabi is captivating as he presented the rustic flavor of the film in a superb manner. He showcased Balayya in an outstanding way.

Dialogues written by Burra Sai Madhav are good. While a few political dialogues are a punch to the ruling government in AP, a few other lead character elevation dialogues are whistle worthy.

Thaman’s background score is impressive. His BGM registers nicely. On the other hand, all the songs are passable on screen with some energetic dances from Balayya. Editing by Naveen Nooli is not up to the mark. The production values for this rustic actioner from Mythri Movie Makers are lavish.

Analysis: Director Gopichand Malineni projected Balayya as a perfect Rayalaseema factionist who works for the well-being of his region’s people. Though the idea of mixing faction and family drama is ages old, Gopichand tried to explore a new point in the brother-sister thread. Looks like Gopichand designed Balayya’s character first and wrote the scene order later. Being a fanboy, Gopichand showcased what exactly NBK fans expect from their matinee idol.

Definitely, the film has a few flaws but those are all balanced with Balayya’s screen presence and effective dialogues. To summarize, Veera Simha Reddy is a regular actioner that has all the elements which NBK fans expect from him. As the festival season has just started, the film has fair chances to perform well during this Sankranthi festival weekend.

Verdict: Balayya mark actioner!

Veera Simha Reddy Review: Routine Pulp, No Fresh Juice

Movie: Veera Simha Reddy Rating: 2.25/5 Banner: Mythri Movie Makers Cast: Nandamuri Balakrishna, Shruti Haasan, Duniya Vijay, Honey Rose, Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar, and others Dialogues: Sai Madhav Burra Music: Thaman S Cinematographer: Rishi Punjabi Editing: Navin Nooli Production Designer: A.S. Prakash Fights: Ram-Laxman, Venkat Producers: Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili Story, Screenplay & Direction: Gopichand Malineni Release Date: Jan 12, 2023

After the stunning success of “Akhanda” and the popularity of talk show “Unstoppable” brought new craze to Balakrishna’s movies. And teaming up with director Gopichand Malineni, who just delivered the blockbuster “Krack”, raised high expectations. “Veera Simha Reddy” is also the first biggie to hit the theaters in 2023. Amidst high expectations, the film is here.

Let’s find out its merits and demerits.

Story: For their son's upcoming wedding in Turkey, Meenakshi (Honey Rose) has invited Veera Simha Reddy (Nandamuri Balakrishna), who currently resides in Rayalaseema, India. Their son Jai (Balakrishna) is in love with Eesha (Shruti Haasan). Why does Veera Simha Reddy reside in India and Meenakshi and her son in Turkey?

Meenakshi begins to explain the circumstances that brought them to Turkey many years ago.

An amiable faction leader named Veera Simha Reddy wields the most influence in Kurnool. His step-sister Bhanumathi (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar) is his one and only vulnerable point.

Bhanumathi misunderstands her brother's actions in a crucial situation and comes to the conclusion that he has betrayed her. Furious at her brother, she marries Veera Simha Reddy's rival Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) and sets out to exact her revenge. What caused the sibling rift, and what will Jai do after hearing his dad's backstory?

Artistes’ Performances: Nandamuri Balakrishna has portrayed two distinct characters. Veera Simha Reddy's portrayal brings to mind his previous film roles. Balakrishna's dialogue delivery is, as always, fierce. In the first half, his costume is a rip-off of Sivanna's "Mufti." That said, he looks terrific in it.

After Balakrishna, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar plays a pivotal role in the film. During the interval bang, she does an admirable job. Her sentiment scenes, however, fall flat.

Shruti Haasan gets a bad treatment. Her role and her performance are both embarrassingly bad.

Honey Rose is given a slightly better role than Shruti Haasan. In his first Telugu film, Duniya Vijay plays a one-dimensional bad guy.

Technical Excellence: The music of Thaman is unremarkable. The songs may have gone viral on social media, but they don't work at all in the movie. But his background score is good, so that's a plus. This film's cinematography is stunning. The production values are very high because the producers have invested a lot of money.

Sai Madhav's dialogues follow a predictable pattern. Words like "Kodaka" and "Naa Kodaka" can be heard at many places. The length of the film is too long. It features 8 lengthy fight sequences

Highlights: The first half Some mass moments

Drawback: Cliched narration Second half Sister-sentiment thread Excessive action episodes Cringe worthy heroine characterisation

Analysis Despite being a formulaic actioner, the spiritual undertones of "Akhanda" helped it succeed at the box office. Balayya's performance as Akhanda resonated with a wide audience thanks in large part to the film's "Bhakti" angle. The film's success was apparently viewed in a different light by director Gopichand Malineni. His latest film, "Veera Simha Reddy," starring Balakrishna, follows the template of heavy dose of action sequences.

The number of fights is very high. There are indeed eight large-scale action scenes.

Though the film's first fifteen minutes are dull due to the introduction of Jai and Eesha and their budding romance, things pick up once "Veera Simha Reddy" arrives.

Balakrishna, in typical fashion, roars through the first half, delivering punch lines and beating up bad guys. Some dialogues are designed to gain political traction. Balakrishna takes aim at the current government in Andhra Pradesh in a scene where the hero has an argument with the minister of home affairs.

The first half of the film, however, is structured similarly to other commercially successful films, complete with songs and fight scenes. The twist involving Balakrisha and Varalakshmi at the midpoint bang is also interesting. The twist makes us wait for the second part. However, the second half completely loses its grip. A sister-brother drama ensues, and more fights follow.

Everything involving Balakrishna and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar seems to go on forever. On top of that, there are far too many loopholes. It's hilarious to see Varalaxmi misunderstand his brother and swear vengeance without bothering to get to the bottom of the situation. Another cringe-worthy moment is when she married her brother's rival. It appears to be a story convenience rather than organic. And Duniya Vijay's villainy lacks effectiveness due to the poor writing. So, the second half turns out to be a combination of action-stunts fest and poor sentiment scenes.

The politically charged lines of dialogue may win over supporters of the Telugu Desam party and Balayya's fans, but they come off sounding artificial and out of place to everyone else. And for how much longer will Balakrishna brag about his dad and his 'charitra' (history) without regard to the story's arc?

How did the censors let scenes like Balakrishna calling the bad guy "Munda" through?  Burra Sai Madhav's banal prose filled with words like “Kodaka” should have been censored.

The heroines' portrayals are just as bad as the pointless fighting. After the first 15 minutes, Shruti Haasan only re-appears when there are musical interludes. Honey Rose is revealed to be an elderly mother, but she is then given the opportunity to dance to the "Maa Baava Manobhavalu '' song and seduce Balayya.

Overall, "Veera Simha Reddy" is another mindless masala drama with a lot of fights. While the first half of the film is entertaining, the second half is disastrous. The film is only for die-hard fans of Balayya, not for the regular audiences.

Bottom line: Strictly For Balayya Fans

Starring:  Nandamuri Balakrishna, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Honey Rose, Shruti Haasan, Duniya Vijay, Naveen Chandra, Lal, Ajay Ghosh, Mirali Sharma

Release Date :  12 th  January, 2023

Rating:   2.75/5

Veera Simha Reddy Movie Review:   Nandamuri Balakrishna , Shruti Haasan, Naveen Chandra, Duniya Vijay, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Honey Rose,  Lal, Ajay Ghosh, Mirali Sharma and others starrer Veera Simha Reddy helmed by Gopichand Malineni has hit the theaters today on 12th January 2023. Let’s see the story of Veera Simha Reddy.

Story:  Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) is a god like man for Rayalaseema people. He sacrifices his life for step-sister Bhanumathi (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar). But Bhanumati has been waiting for Veera Simha Reddy’s death for thirty years. On the other hand, Jayasimha Reddy (Jr.  Balakrishna) is leading a life with his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) in Istanbul. Jayasimha falls in love with Esha (Shruti Haasan) and decides to marry her. At that time, Jayasimha comes to know about his father Veera Simha Reddy. Why did the original father and son get separated?, Why does sister Meenakshi want to kill Veera Simha Reddy?, What did Jayasimha Reddy do for his father? To get  these answers, one should watch the movie on silver screen.

 Plus points:

·         Performance

·         Balakrishna

·         Action

·         BGM

·         Interval

Minus Points:

·         Predictable Story

·         Weak Villain

·         Second half little bit lengthy and draggy

Performance:  Nandmauri Balakrishna who plays two roles as Veera Simha Reddy and Jayasimha Reddy, as usual, gives his best performance. Especially in some emotional and action scenes like the interval, as well as in the climax, Balakrishna’ acting is the highlighted. His dance is also amazing. Shruti Haasan  who is playing the female lead, does justice to her role with her glamour. Honey Rose’s performance is very good. Seeing Honey Rose essaying  mother to Jai (Balakrishna), the odd pairing is sticking up like a sore thumb. Even though her makeup suggested that she’s old enough to be a mother, it did not  add any novelty. Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar has done full justice to her pivotal role with her performance. Especially in an important scene in the second half, her performance is very impressive. And Duniya Vijay who plays the role of villain in this movie impresses with his fantastic performance. Naveen Chandra who plays another key role is  also impressive. Also the rest of the actors have done well in their roles.

Technical:   The story of Veera Simha Reddy has nothing new to offer. We get the brother-sister sentiment and how revenge clouds one’s judgement. Veera Simha Reddy has some strong political dialogues, which brought a lot of cheer among the movie lovers.  Thaman’ BGM and songs are good. His music elevates the action blocks. Rishi Punjabi’s cinematography work is very good. Naveen Nooli’s editing work is also okay. The production values by producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar are very good.

Analysis:  Veera Simha Reddy is a full mass meal for Balakrishna fans. Shruti Haasan, Duniya Vijay, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar and Honey Rose are pluses for this movie. But, at some places things like slow narration and boring scenes are the minus points. Overall, the action and some emotional elements in this powerful action drama are very impressive.

Veera Simha Reddy Review – Typical faction film for masses

Veera Simha Reddy Review

Veera Simha Reddy Review

TELUGU360 RATING: 2.5 / 5

Veera Simha Reddy is an upcoming Indian action film directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. It stars Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role alongside Shruti Haasan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Honey Rose, and Duniya Vijay. The film score and soundtrack are composed by S. Thaman.

Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) is a leader from pulicherla in Rayalaseema. His son Jai Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) lives in Istanbul city. Veera Simha’s sister Bhanumathi (Varalakshmi) leads Veera’s rival faction group in pulicherla. The rest of the story deals with why Veera’s sister went against him, How Jai / Veera Simha reddy counter the rival faction gangs.

Gopichand Malineni’s script is a bit shaky at the beginning. Younger Balakrishna, and Shruti Haasan introduction episodes are pretty average. Once Veera Simha reddy enters, the movie switches to high-octane action mode. The director cleverly embedded fierce political dialogues against the incumbent government. Balayya’s Veera Simha getup suits him perfectly. His body language, dialogue delivery, and the scale of the scenes, etc. factors helped a racy first half. Once the first half reaches such a high, obviously the second half starts sliding down. Adding to the problems, for the second half, the director had picked a clichéd story and treatment is sluggish as well. The sister sentiment didn’t work much in favor of the film, even though Varalakshmi acted well as Bhanumati.

Performances:

Balakrishna is good in both roles but best as Veera Simha. On top of his regular mass histrionics, there are multiple scenes he did emotional scenes as well. Shruti Haasan, and Honey Rose characters have less screen space. Varalakshmi Sarat kumar gets the author-backed role, she acted well. Duniya Vijay as the main villain looks wise and fiery but the villainy is weak. Murali sharma role is insignificant and incomplete.

Technical Department:

S Thaman’s mass songs and background score helped the film a Lot. Without him, this film would have a lesser impact. Sai Madhav Burra dialogues stand out in the film. He has written nice mass dialogues and penned some powerful political dialogues. Rishi Punjabi cinematography is excellent with rich and vibrant frames in songs. He captures action episodes well.

Balayya’s stellar screen presence and performance First half Episodes Fierce political dialogues Superb Mass songs

Old School flashback in the second half Emotional drama fails to connect Poor story Routine Fights

Veera Simha Reddy’s first half is very good and a feast for the audience. However, the second half disappoints. The Old school’s Second half works only for fans / B-C centers. At Box-office, targeted mass, festive season, and competition movie results will decide the range of this film.
