1. Art of the Start 2.0

Art of the start 2.0

Goodreads rating: 3.87/5

The author of this book is American millionaire Guy Kawasaki. Though his name is enough for anyone to stand up from their seats let me tell you a few things about him.

  • He worked with Apple in 1984 as a part of the marketing team for Macintosh computers.
  • He is the author of 12 books including The Art of Social Media, and Enchantment.
  • He is currently working as the chief evangelist of Canva which is a graphic designing software.

Now coming to what this book holds for you, it’s one of those books that focus on transforming your business idea into a full-fledged organization.

Guy Kawasaki explains why it is important to have a vision and how you, as an entrepreneur, can feed your team with the same vision.

If your team does not adhere to the same vision, there will always be chaos in the workspace.

You must also share stories about your product and your journey. Everyone loves stories. You don’t have to write a 300-page book but a few social media posts, and videos that resonate well with your target audience.

The book also guides entrepreneurs while hiring. It tells you to hire people who are new in the industry. They are most likely to innovate new products as they consistently ask questions.

Key Highlight:

This book will help you in writing a business plan along with guiding you in various steps of entrepreneurship. This book holds something for every aspect of entrepreneurship.

It also stresses how you can use the internet and cloud tools to make the processes more accessible and more efficient. In the modern era, businesses are equipped with tools that are affordable and accessible to everyone.

Moreover, the book also throws light on socializing and partnering with the right people for leadership roles or to get funding.

By reading this book, you will feel more powerful as an entrepreneur and will be ready to take on challenges that come along with entrepreneurship.

This book doesn’t sound like rhetoric and probably that’s why this book received appreciation from all across the world.

A reader’s review:

The focus is on tech entrepreneurs. While much of the advice is applicable to other industries, the book will hit the bullseye specifically with those starting technology businesses.

2. The Successful Business Plan: Secrets and Strategies

The successful Business Plan Secrets and Strategies

The author of the book is Rhonda Abrams who has written more than 12 books on entrepreneurship. Being an entrepreneur herself, the knowledge she shares is absolute gold and trustworthy.

She also writes one of the most popular columns in the US known as Small Business Strategies.

Let us now discuss what Rhonda Abrams has taught in her book.

The Successful Business Plan: Secrets and Strategies is a complete guide for anyone stuck in writing. It is one of those books that give you a push to start working on your idea.

This book contains various worksheets and charts which makes it consumable as well as practical.

You will get enough examples of various parts of a business plan , giving you an in-depth idea of what it looks like and how it is written.

This book not only teaches you to write a business plan that reminds you about your vision but also this plan can help you get investors on board.

It also equips you with strategies to get funds at the best possible rates and also to minimize the costs involved in running a business.

It gives you an in-depth understanding of positioning your brand in the market to gain the attention of your target audience and thus derive maximum profit.

Moreover, you can also use it for competitions related to showcasing plans for their businesses. The book is used by many entrepreneurs and is recommended to every small business.

There’s enough information here to help you get almost any business started. This is a proven source, for it’s been through several re-prints since 1991.

3. The Founder’s Dilemma

The Founder’s Dilemma

Goodreads rating: 4.01/5

The book, The Founder’s dilemma, is one of the best business plan books by Noam Wasserman. Apart from this, he has written another bestseller known as Life is a startup.

Noam Wasserman served as a professor at Harvard Business school for 13 years and is currently working at the University of Southern California as a founding Director at the Founder Central Initiative.

The book he wrote is an absolute beauty. Not because he has told some hidden secrets but because he has addressed a problem that many entrepreneurs often ignore.

And that problem is the company’s leadership. You might have a billion-dollar business idea and even have cracked the tech for it, but you might still fail because of listening to the wrong advice.

If you want your business to not suffer due to wrong decisions made by top leadership, you must read this book.

This book will help you in deciding whom you want to work with, and how to share the equity among co-founders and employees without being emotional.

However, this book might not be useful for small businesses but is a gem for someone planning to launch a high-growth business.

I’ve never seen a book before that was particularly helpful – to a founder – about the wide range of issues a founder will face.

Brad Feld (via Goodreads)

4. The One-Page Business Plan for the Creative Entrepreneur

The One Page Business Plan for the Creative Entrepreneur

Goodreads rating: 3.86/5

The author of this mind-blowing book is none other than Jim Horan.

Known for his expertise in solving complex business problems , Jim has helped many entrepreneurs in turning their businesses into profit-making machines.

Jim Horan has also been a Fortune 500 executive and has written six books in the One Page Business Plan for Creative Entrepreneur series.

This book is quite different from other books as it is written for entrepreneurs who do not understand a lot about business figures but want to get started soon.

There’s a saying that if you cannot write your business plan on a single page, you are probably doing it wrong.

The book enables you to write it in a couple of hours which includes your mission, objectives, and plans.

It will be crisp and easy to understand for your investors as well as the team. In this fast-moving world, it becomes really uncomfortable to give a week preparing a business plan.

You have the idea and with the help of this book, you can turn the idea into a business in no time.

Having said that, this book is not recommended to someone who is building a high-growth company or a business with many manufacturing units.

This book is specially designed for small businesses to increase their profits and improve their vision.

One of my favorites! I have used these templates many times. It really forces you to be concise and focus on your vision. Highly recommend!

5. The Secrets to Writing a Successful Business Plan

The Secrets to writing a successful Business Plan

Goodreads rating: 3.70/5

The author of this book Hal Shelton is an extremely experienced executive who has worked with many corporations, non-profits, and investment companies.

Hal Shelton completed his BS from Carnegie Mellon University and then pursued an MBA from the University of Chicago.

The secrets to writing a successful Business Plan focus on each section of the plan to help you create one that stands out in front of the investors.

The book also informs you about the common errors entrepreneurs make while writing. These errors sometimes cost very high as they might create confusion for investors as well as for the team.

You will also learn to do the market analysis and write the same in your plan. You will be able to answer questions like how big is the market and whether it is sufficient to run a successful business or not.

Investors receive a lot of business plans and going through each one of them is not feasible. Therefore writing an executive summary becomes extremely important.

The executive summary is an easy way to grab investors’ attention and help them understand your business without going through lengthy documents.

If you are launching a non-profit organization, this book can help you in many ways as a section of the book is dedicated to non-profits.

Moreover, the book also consists of secret strategies for writing a business plan and getting bank loans or funding from investors.

Anatomy of a business plan

The author of this book, Linda Pinson, has worked very closely with the U.S. small business administration to write the government business plan publication.

She has also been honored as Education Advocate of the year and SBA regional women in Business advocate of the year.

Apart from this book, she has written many books on entrepreneurship such as Keeping the books and steps to start a small business startup.

7. The Complete Book of Business Plans

The complete book of business plans

Goodreads rating: 3.47/5

The authors of this book are Brian Hazelgran and Joseph A. Covello. Both of them have a great understanding of how businesses operate in this book. They have told us that one size doesn’t fit all.

That means business plans for different businesses cannot be written in the same way.

This book contains 12+ plans that give you an idea of how you write one for yourself.

This book also focuses on how you should bring people into your business and what vision you should have to run the business for decades.

Moreover, when you read the book you will have to ask a lot of questions to yourself. The book will compel you to ask questions yourself that are immensely important before writing it.

Once you give satisfactory answers to the questions asked, you will feel more motivated to start a business , and writing a business will look like a cakewalk.

The above quote shows how important it is to plan your business and create a visionary plan for your business.

What’s a Breakaway Plan? [MLM Breakaway Comp Plan Basics + Pros and Cons]

A breakaway compensation plan is one of the  three foundational MLM commission structures  in the direct selling industry. And, until the ‘90s (when  binary  and  unilevel  plans became popular), it was the only type of strategy that proved it could sustainably pay distributors  and  fuel its company with a steady stream of revenue. Read on for a rundown of how they really work and some of the pros and cons of this classic MLM plan type.

Breakaway Basics   The first thing you should know about breakaways is that all of the commissions depend on group volume and the breakaway rank. All distributors, no matter where they are in the comp plan, earn commissions based on group volume. But, when a leader “breaks away,” they become eligible for additional commissions, including commissions from downline breakaway groups. Don’t worry if it sounds a little complicated at this point—we’ll break it down for you step by step below.

But, first, let’s walk through a basic definition of a breakaway group to help you keep track of the differences.

What’s a breakaway group?

A breakaway group is made up of a leader who’s reached the breakaway rank and anyone below her down to the next person who’s broken away. In the example below, each group is shown in the same color. The leader at the top has a downline of 29 people, but only nine—the group marked in red—are part of  her  breakaway group.

InfoTrax-Blog-7D-Tree-768x683

Before Breaking Away   First, we’ll look at the plan as it plays out for new recruits. Most distributors will start inside a breakaway group and continue to stay there as long as they’re with your company. But, for those who want to become high-earning leaders, this in an essential phase to help them get to the breakaway rank and beyond.

Salesforce   When someone starts building a business in a breakaway plan, most of their earnings come from making sales to customers. Usually, the people who thrive in this first commission phase are the  sales people  distributors in your company. Their main focus is on building sales volume, recruiting, and, if they’re a budding sales leader, progressing to higher ranks.

Commissions  Beginning distributors get their income based on their personal group sales volume—a percentage of whatever’s sold during the commission period. And, in most plans, group volume is paid through a differential commission.

Differential commission A Differential commission can seem pretty   complex at first, but, once you’re familiar with how they work, they can become pretty intuitive. This compensation type has a set commission percentage for distributors to earn on their group’s downline sales based on rank—each rank has a different amount. The higher the rank, the higher the percentage. And the higher the percentage, the closer the distributor gets to the “top” of the differential—the maximum amount they can earn. So far, it sounds similar to a  level bonus . But here’s the tricky part: higher-ranking distributors earn the  difference  of lower-ranked distributor earnings in their downline.

image-1

The “Stairstep Breakaway”   Another common way to explain differential commissions is by using the graph below. Because it’s shaped like a staircase, breakaways are also called “Stairstep Breakaways.”

The example below shows a distributor’s commission breakdown at each rank leading up to “4-Star,” the breakaway rank. At the 4-Star point in the compensation plan, Distributor B is making a  personal  commission of 15%. The commission comes from both her personal volume and her own customers’ volume.

At the bottom of table, you can see that Distributor B, as a 4-Star, makes a 15% commission on her 1-Star distributors’ personal and customer volume. As her distributors reach higher ranks, her earnings percentage decreases—she earns 10% for 2-Stars and 5% for 3-Stars.

InfoTrax-Blog-7C-Chart-768x340

Still not totally clear? Here’s a table to show you how it works as a distributor advances through the compensation plan. As a new distributor, A starts out in the 1-Star rank, where she isn’t qualified to make a commission. Her upline leader, Distributor B, makes a 15% commission on A’s personal and customer volume.

As A moves up in rank, she starts to earn part of the differential commission, leaving less to transfer to Distributor B. As A’s earnings percentage  increases,  B’s earnings percentage  decreases .

InfoTrax-Blog-7B-Chart-768x336

Now that we’ve got the beginning of the plan covered, let’s move on to talk about what happens  after  a distributor advances through this stage of the commission plan.

After Breaking Away   The breakaway rank is really the place where the commissions start to heat up. We’ll show you how, at this stage in the compensation plan, distributors’ earnings and responsibilities completely change.

Salesforce  We hinted earlier that ambitious distributors who start out with the group volume bonus might be interested in growing into  sales leaders  someday. Essentially, that means these distributors incorporate more training and recruitment into their business efforts. Like sales people, they’re focused on getting product to customers and building volume. But, they also work hard to recruit new distributors into their downline, show them the ropes, and help them reach their potential.

Commissions  After a distributor breaks away and shows that they’re ready to be a sales leader, their commissions change to reflect the shift they’ve made. Now, in addition to the group volume that they get from their own group, they’re eligible for a generation bonus from other breakaway groups beneath them.

Generation commissions   Generation commissions work in tandem with the group volume bonus. Remember how we talked about how to define breakaway groups earlier? Here’s where that becomes important: once a distributor reaches the breakaway rank, she continues to earn group volume commissions from the sales within her own group—so, from anyone that  hasn’t  already reached the breakaway rank.   For breakaway groups beneath her, though, she starts to earn a small percentage of  their  group volume, too. Before, none of that volume counted toward her paycheck. But now, she can reap the financial benefits of training and building up distributors beneath her to build a strong organization of their own.

image-300x250

Breakaway Pros   Great at rewarding customer sales  Breakaways are very sales-centric, as all great commission plans need to be. Both the group volume and generation bonuses are very successful at encouraging distributors to make sales to customers, since both commission types rely heavily on sales volume.

They work beautifully for partyplans   Because parties are a great way to connect with customers and build sales volume, partyplans pair very naturally with breakaways’ qualifying rules and structure.

They’ve proven their worth  As the MLM industry has watched the rise and fall of so many “big ideas” for compensation plans, breakaways continue to be successful. They’ve been the plan of choice for the biggest companies in the industry today (ones with billion-dollar earnings or more). That’s nothing to sneeze at!

Breakaway Cons   The breakaway takeaway  The most common downside of this type of compensation plan is that, if you’re not careful, distributors can feel like they get penalized for training and helping others to do well and move up in ranks. A leader who trains a promising downline distributor to break away from her group can suffer a serious earnings drop when she loses all of the commissions from that new group’s volume.

Inconsistent paychecks

Some distributors have found it hard to earn a steady income in a breakaway plan—as distributors constantly switch between group and generation bonuses, the difference in their earnings make it hard to count on commissions earnings. This isn’t typical for all breakaways, but it’s something to watch for in your plan.

The Takeaways   Breakaway plans play a huge role in the direct selling world. They’ve been so pervasive that when most people think of MLM compensation plans, they think of breakaways. Over and over again, they’ve proven that they really work as a motivational revenue base for all kinds of companies. As long their   weak spots   are compensated for and people build on their foundational strengths, breakaways will continue to be a powerhouse compensation strategy for the industry.

Breakaway founders: Music fest like 'high-energy workout class' — here's what to know

In 2010, Adam Lynn was a student at the University of Michigan trying to book a show with trip-hop rapper Kid Cudi . At the same time, diehard Buckeye fan Zach Ruben was a few hours away in Columbus trying to book a show with the same artist on the same date.

“We ended up partnering on the show instead of competing. I moved down to Columbus later that year and we started Prime Social Group (PSG),” Lynn said.

PSG quickly made a name for itself in the world of concert promotions, producing more than 1,200 events and 50 music festivals worldwide since its inception and growing beyond Columbus to open offices in L.A., Nashville and New York.

In addition, Lynn and Ruben’s business acumen has earned them entrepreneurial from global investment banking firm Goldman Sachs.

2013 - Breakaway is born: Music festival represents big step for promotions company

The pair’s efforts to expand PSG’s reach led to the birth of another enterprise: Breakaway.

“We had been growing in our careers and we found single-ticket shows were great to build up our database, but we felt there was a void in our business of owning a brand and owning a concept. A brand is one of the most tangible assets you can have in this business.” Ruben said.

“The Columbus area was missing that pop cultural, new-age festival. It only had Sonic Temple (Art & Music Festival), which was then Rock on the Range. We felt that the contemporary demographic needed a spotlight, and we needed a home that we could scale to other areas.”

Indeed, Breakaway Music Festival, which began in Columbus in 2013, has snowballed from a hometown happening to a multiday, multicity, multistage traveling tour of emerging electronic dance music (EDM) artists. Breakaway was named best festival series at the EDM Awards during Miami Music Week in March.

What is EDM?: The definition of EDM? Depends on which DJ you ask

In addition to Columbus, this year’s festival stops include Miami Beach and Tampa, Florida; Charlotte and Concord, North Carolina; Bonner Springs, Kansas (a suburb of Kansas City); St. Paul, Minnesota; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Worcester, Massachusetts.

If you’re planning to attend Breakaway — which Lynn and Ruben liken to “when you walk into a high-energy workout class” — we’ve got you covered below with some must-know details.

Where and when is Breakaway?

The festival takes place from 4-11 p.m. May 31 and 3-11 p.m. June 1 at Historic Crew Stadium, 1 Black and Gold Way.

How much are tickets?

One-day general-admission tickets are $94, and $65 for college students. Two-day general-admission tickets are $139. For May 31, VIP tickets are $155 and Space Deck Terrace tickets are $239. For June 1, VIP tickets are $150 and Ultra VIP tickets are $629. Two-day VIP tickets are $264. Parking passes ranging from $25 to $85 also are available.

I want to upgrade my ticket to VIP. Can I do that?

VIP upgrades can be done at the box office only on May 31 and June 1 — subject to availability and prices may vary. Ultra VIP upgrades can only be done in advance by emailing [email protected] .

Who’s playing at Breakaway this year?

On May 31, the headliners are Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade and Tiësto , aka “the Godfather of EDM,” who won the Grammy for best remixed recording, non-classical in 2015 for his "Birthday Treatment Remix" of John Legend's "All of Me."

The headliner for June 1 is to be John Summit , a groundbreaking DJ who’s played at festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas and sold out Red Rocks last year. Lynn said Summit is to EDM what “Morgan Wallen is in the country space.”

In addition, more than 20 other artists are to perform at Breakaway. “We like to highlight local acts from the community,” Lynn said. “There will also be a strong female presence this year.”

Ruben added, “It’s one of the best EDM lineups in Ohio.”

Why does Breakaway focus on EDM?

Both Ruben and Lynn are passionate about the genre, having grown up listening to it, especially during their high school years. “It really started to become popular as we graduated and started our business. There’s not a lot of (EDM) promoters, so there’s a lot of opportunities to promote this music,” Ruben said.

What's new this year?

For one thing, Breakaway normally happens later in the year, but Ruben said he and Lynn decided to "get ahead of the summer traffic."

"We’ve also added a whole bunch of experiential things, a ton of brand partnerships and immersive activities,” he said.

What does Breakaway offer besides music?

There will be plenty of food, drinks, vendors and a silent disco, which allows the addition of another stage without noise bleed from other stages. It also means participants can listen and dance to different DJs simultaneously, Lynn said.

“(People) have on headphones completely blocking the noise. It’s an interesting sight to see. It’s definitely a highlight for a lot of our consumers — a good way to ‘breakaway’ from the rest of the festival,” he added.

What if it rains?

With the exception of severe weather, Breakaway is rain or shine, so the festival goes on as planned. Should severe conditions occur, announcements should be made from the Main Stage PA system and the festival may be postponed until weather passes.

Weather is one of the biggest challenges of holding a music festival, Lynn said. “You can send prayers to the weather gods and still get a rainstorm,” he said.

What are some other challenges of running a music festival?

Lynn and Ruben listed issues such as competition driving up artists’ asking prices, vendor and operations costs and making decisions like who to book.

“A lot of times, Zach and I have to take a smart guess as to who is going to be really big in six to 12 months. We don’t know who’s going to drop big hits,” Lynn said.

Expanding the fest to other markets has counterbalanced cost issues by generating lots more revenue and forging brand partnerships like the one Breakaway has with its first presenting partner, Celsius Energy Drinks.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

Breakaway Business Coaching

write a book

How to Write a Book

I often have coaching clients ask me how to write a book. I’ve written 3 hard copy books and a number of ebooks, and here is my process.  It’s simple, straightforward as I like things to be.

  • Begin by writing down the 5-15 topics you want to cover in your book. What does your target market want to know? What are the most important concepts you want to get across? What are the key messages you want to convey?  Brainstorm as many ideas as you can.
  • These become your chapters. Start to flesh out each chapter. Create bullet points of each of the components that make up each of the concepts. Explore the subtopics that you want to cover. Know that you may not possess all the information that you need to know to write each chapter, do some research to fill in the blanks. At this point you should have a framework for your book, you haven’t actually started writing your book yet.
  • Time to write the book. I would suggest that you dictate your book using a dictation software product like Dragon Dictate. You can speak your book and the software will translate it for you. Dragon takes a little training to better understand your voice, but it is highly effective and time saving. I have a friend who wrote his book in his car traveling from Oregon to Lake Tahoe, what a great use of time. If you aren’t comfortable using dictation software, then get to writing. Either way, you should be able to crank out your book in a short amount of time.
  • It’s good enough. Many people take forever to publish their book because they want it to be perfect. Depending on what you are using your book for (we’ll explore that in a minute) perfect may or may not be necessary. Get your book written, hire a copywriter to edit the book and get it out there.
  • Do I need a publisher? I’ve written 3 books, one with a publisher and a ghost writer (I spent $15,000), one with a small publisher (I spent $6,600) and one that I self published using Word and CreateSpace (I spent $0). The purpose of my books were to gain credibility, establish myself as the credible expert, an elaborate business card as it were. I did not plan on making a lot of money on the book, I wanted it to be a top of my funnel, free or low cost product that helped people get to know me and what I’m an expert in. To be honest I didn’t think either publisher did much of anything to promote my book. The marketing of my book was left completely up to me and if I was to do it again, I’d self publish and take my money and use it to market the book myself.
  • Consider having someone design your cover. That can cost upward of $1500 unless you use something like Fiverr.com. You want your book to have an attractive and eye catching cover. Invest some money here.
  • Load it up on CreateSpace, review and publish. You will probably want to publish a hard copy version and a Kindle version.
  • Order some copies to sell, give away, etc. Depending on the number of pages in your book, the cost to purchase copies is very low. My last book, which was a little over 150 pages cost less than $4 to print. Add in the cost of shipping and it is still under $5. If your book includes a lot of images, the cost to print will increase depending on the number of images, black and white or color, etc.
  • Decide how you want to fulfill. Do you want Amazon to fulfill your orders or do you want to? Some considerations, having Amazon fill the orders is much easier, although you will make less money and you won’t know who buys your books. Amazon does not share with you the contact info of people who buy your book. In order to overcome this, most authors include a bonus with the book that must be downloaded from their website in order to collect email addresses and contact info. Including such things as bonus chapters, list of resources, tips and tricks are great ways to get people to come to your website and give you their contact info.
  • Marketing, Marketing, Marketing. It always comes back to marketing, create a plan for how you want to market your book. Write that marketing plan down and execute on it.
  • Pre-sell your book. There is no better way to get your book out the door than to pre-sell it. I have a lot of clients who resist pre-selling their books for various reasons, however I believe the benefits far out-weigh your excuses : )) for not. Selling copies of your book before it is published will give you great insight into whether there is even a market for your book and give you information regarding what people are looking for in a book on your topic. You generate CASH! That’s money that you can use to order your copies, hire a copywriter or cover designer, without any money coming out of your pocket.

See how easy it is to write a book?  Have fun with it.

Happy writing, publishing and building your business!

How AI can help you book your next vacation

  • Author: Rebecca Mezistrano

People crowd into a busy airport. Lead.

Memorial Day travel surge: Expect record air travel, busy roads

Artificial intelligence is impacting everything from your job to driving - and now it can help plan your next vacation. Priceline CEO Brett Keller joined TheStreet to discuss how his company, and the travel industry in general, is using AI to help travelers plan the perfect getaway.

Full Video Transcript Below:

CONWAY GITTENS:  So you mentioned launched your very first chat bot. Penny right. In 2023, I believe. So what are some of the ways travelers are leveraging that technology to book their travel plans.

BRETT KELLER: Yeah, absolutely. So Penny is our chatbot. She does a number of really great things for consumers as they move through their shopping process. One upfront. She can certainly provide interesting ideas and thoughts for you in terms of top destinations where people are looking to travel. But more importantly, as you move through the process, as you're looking at a hotel or a resort. Penny can answer all kinds of questions for you about that property that otherwise you may not have known. For example, you might be interested in the type of restaurants that are nearby within walking distance. And this is where AI plays an important role for the travel shopping process. She also has a full understanding of what deals and discounts and coupons are available at any given time for you individually as a consumer, and she can present those to you and even apply those for you as you move through the transaction path. CONWAY GITTENS: I'm wondering if Penny is going to help us when our flights are delayed or our flights get canceled. You know, everybody. I'm sure you get a ton of outrage, phone calls and emails when things happen like that. Can Penny help us with that?

BRETT KELLER:  Yeah, well, there's nothing more stressful, obviously, than having the perfect dream trip and having something go wrong. And just about every trip you take, there's some nuance or something is going to go off. And on occasion you may need to pick up the phone and call for help. Penny is being trained on all of our customer services and so she understands what types of challenges you might be facing. She understands the cancellation policies, your opportunities and options. And so, yes, she already is answering those types of questions for you real time as you come into our website. And over time, she'll play a bigger role as you pick up the phone and call our agents because she should be faster and more efficient at getting to some of these easier questions faster and then connecting you to the right agent for the more complex transactions.

CONWAY GITTENS:  And how do you expect AI to impact the travel industry as we go forward in the coming years.

BRETT KELLER:  Yeah, it's going to impact it in a number of different ways. You should find that you'll have a lot more information about destinations, about hotels and properties. It's going to be much more personalized for you in particular into your travel needs. So if you're traveling with a family or if you're a solo traveler, whether you're traveling with a pet, it will be able to hone in and really give you great guidance and search results based on what's important to you. And so AI will play a role there. It will certainly play a role in helping you navigate sticky situations. And eventually we'll be able to do all the work for you when it comes to rebooking a flight for you, whether it's finding an option, a travel destination for you that's new and unknown, it really can impact all facets of the travel experience.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

breakaway business plan book

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

breakaway business plan book

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

breakaway business plan book

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

breakaway business plan book

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

What to Know About Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s Newly Elected President

Here are five key insights into Mexico’s new president as people wonder whether she will diverge from Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s policies or focus on cementing his legacy.

A smiling woman is greeting several of her supporters.

By Natalie Kitroeff

Reporting from Mexico City

Claudia Sheinbaum’s list of accolades is long: She has a Ph.D in energy engineering, participated in a United Nations panel of climate scientists awarded a Nobel Peace Prize and governed the capital, one of the largest cities in the hemisphere.

On Sunday, she added another achievement to her résumé: becoming the first woman elected president of Mexico.

Ms. Sheinbaum, 61, captured at least 58 percent of the vote in a landmark election on Sunday that featured two women competing for the nation’s highest office — a groundbreaking contest in a country long known for a culture of machismo and rampant violence against women.

Mexico Election Results: Sheinbaum Wins

See results and maps for Mexico’s 2024 presidential election.

“For the first time in 200 years of the republic, I will become the first female president of Mexico,” she said. “And as I have said on other occasions, I do not arrive alone. We all arrived, with our heroines who gave us our homeland, with our ancestors, our mothers, our daughters and our granddaughters.”

Now that she has clinched the presidency, Ms. Sheinbaum’s next hurdle will be stepping out of the shadow of her predecessor and longtime mentor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the outgoing president.
