Speech on Environmental Protection

Protecting our environment is a task that needs your attention. It’s about saving the beautiful world around you from harm.

Are you aware of the role you can play? Let’s make sense of what environmental protection truly means for you and the planet.

1-minute Speech on Environmental Protection

Good day, everyone. Let’s talk about something really important – protecting our environment.

Our environment is like our home. You wouldn’t want your home to be dirty, would you? The same goes for our environment. We need to keep it clean, just like we keep our homes clean. This means picking up litter and not throwing trash anywhere we like.

Trees are like our environment’s lungs. They help us breathe by giving us clean air. But many trees are being cut down for things like paper and furniture. We need to stop cutting down so many trees and start planting more.

Water is life. Without water, we cannot survive. But our rivers and oceans are getting dirty because of waste. We need to stop this. We should not throw waste into water bodies and we should clean up any waste that we see.

Animals are our friends. They also need a clean environment to live in. But many animals are losing their homes because of pollution and deforestation. We need to protect their homes by keeping our environment clean and green.

Our actions have a big impact on our environment. If we do good things for our environment, it will also do good things for us. But if we do bad things, it will affect us in bad ways too.

Let’s all promise today to do our part in protecting our environment. Remember, it’s not just for us, but also for our future generations. They deserve to live in a clean and healthy environment, just like we do.

2-minute Speech on Environmental Protection

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, I want to talk to you about something very important. Something that touches all of us, no matter who we are or where we live. That is protecting our environment.

The environment is like our home. Just like we keep our homes clean and safe, we need to do the same for our environment. It gives us air, water, food and many other things. We need to take care of it, just like it takes care of us.

Air, water and soil are the three main parts of our environment. When these parts are clean and healthy, we are also healthy. But when they are dirty or sick, we can get sick too. This is why we need to keep our air, water and soil clean.

We can do this in many ways. One way is by not throwing trash everywhere. When we throw trash on the ground, it can make the soil sick. When it rains, this trash can go into the water and make it dirty. This is why we need to throw our trash in the right place.

Another way is by not cutting down too many trees. Trees help clean our air. They take in the bad air and give out good air. When we cut down too many trees, our air can get dirty. This is why we need to plant more trees and not cut them down.

The third way is by not using too many things that can hurt our environment. Some things like cars and factories can make our air dirty. They give out smoke that is not good for us or the environment. This is why we need to use less of these things and find other ways that are better for our environment.

We also need to teach others about this. We need to tell our friends, our families, and everyone we know. The more people know, the more they can help. And the more we all help, the better our environment will be.

In conclusion, protecting our environment is very important. It’s not just for us, but for everyone who comes after us. Just like we got a clean and healthy environment from those before us, we need to give the same to those who come after us. It’s our duty and our responsibility. And I believe that together, we can do it.

Speech on Save Environment for 1-2 minutes

Here is a 1-minute to 2-minute speech on Save Environment .

Good morning everyone. My name is _____ and my topic for today’s assessment is Save Environment. What’s the biggest threat to everyone globally? Is it the decreasing currency rate or fewer jobs? Other than these, one of the major issues we are facing today is the adverse implications on mother earth. We want our houses to be clean, and our school uniforms to be always ironed, then why are we not concerned about the place we all live in? Melting glaciers, natural calamities, climate change, and shortage of water are just a few of the major alarming points. If we don’t do something soon, there can be more consequences. Environmental pollution can not be pinned on a single country or individual as we all have been participating in it directly or indirectly and we certainly won’t be able to change it back to normal in a day but little efforts every day can lead to a big change. Wondering how we can save the environment? Starting with the basics, we can dispose of the wrappers in proper dustbins after eating and also try to separate them into biodegradable & non-biodegradable waste. This will help to ensure better disposal of waste products. Secondly, we should stop wasting water. From now on, wherever you see a tap running close to the tap, we can also install a rainwater harvesting system to conserve water. Lastly, switching off the lights & fans in our classroom when no one is there can help save electricity. All these things are easy and do not require much effort. Just determination and willpower towards doing our bit for saving the environment can make a big impact. We must know that change starts with us, let’s pledge to put in our best efforts to save our environment from today!

Speech on Save Environment (5 minutes)

Here is another useful speech on Save Environment for 5 minutes:

Save environment speech

Good morning to everyone.  My name is _____ and my topic for today’s assessment is the Save Environment. Have you ever wondered how would it feel to not wear masks during the pollution that happens after every Diwali? Imagine hearing the sounds of birds in the morning not just over the hills but near our balconies. With the increasing standard of living, our environment has been continuously degrading. We clean our phones with unnecessary cache when it starts to hang, what are we gonna do when our mother earth is stuck? If the children of today’s modern age do not understand the importance of saving the environment, there won’t be an environment for the coming generations. Our news channels are filled with the news of climate changes, natural calamities & water scarcity. There are 308 districts in India that do not have a supply of drinking water & 17 states that are facing water shortages. We cannot make the big contributors that harm the environment to stop right away but we can bring a change in our lifestyle that will also have a positive impact on mother nature. Here’s how all of us can bring our own share of change. Most of the houses have packet milk, so when you cut the packet, do it from the top without cutting any pieces. The short triangle piece from milk packets is microplastic that can’t be recycled and is often dumped into oceans, and if consumed by fish or sea animals it can also result in death. The second thing you can do is stop bringing chappatis in foil, instead, bring it in a cotton cloth. This will not only reduce the use of foil but also save you money spent on aluminium foil. Similarly, instead of using and wasting plastic straws, you can bring your own straws made of aluminium and steel material that is reusable. Other small things that can bring an impact are using wooden toothbrushes & hairbrushes, avoiding the use of plastic bottles & lunch boxes, proper disposal of wrappers, and switching off fans and lights before leaving the room. These small efforts from us can leave a bigger impact on saving the environment. Other than these, we can always plant more trees in parks, footpaths and even near the school buildings. Avoiding the use of plastic bags, try to carpool, encouraging recyclable fashion, and much more. Earth is our home & for the last few years, it has been suffering from various calamities and climate issues. Before it’s too late or even run out of time, we must try to bring these changes in ourselves and also inform our families and friends about it. Let’s unite & bring back the balance our mother earth needs.

Speech on Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution is an issue of grave concern. Day by day, the condition is getting worse, and it’s high time to take action. Read the following article, collect maximum ideas, and develop a comprehensive speech about pollution in our environment – one of the interesting speech topics for kids .

A couple of sample speeches are given below. Go through them and utilise the resource to prepare a short speech on pollution.

What is pollution? Pollution can be defined as the introduction of unwanted harmful substances into the earth that brings adverse effects on the environment and living organisms. It destroys the ecological balance. There are mainly six types of environmental pollution and they are air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution, thermal pollution, and radioactive pollution.

Air pollution can be defined as the mixing of external harmful gases and particles in the atmosphere. It is caused by the release of contaminants like toxic gases, chemicals, and other particulate matter. The impact of air pollution can be severe; it varies from person to person. Air pollution impoverishes our lives by causing global warming, acid rain, ozone depletion and increasing the risk of cancer, respiratory diseases, skin diseases, etc.

Water pollution is caused by the illogical waste management of human beings. Contaminants are introduced into the water bodies by human activities like disposing of untreated industrial sewages, agricultural runoffs with fertilisers and pesticides, dumping of solid wastes, etc. Water pollution is a great threat to marine life. Disrupting marine life affects our food cycle and damages our ecosystem.

The contamination of soil due to the presence of chemicals or other harmful particles is called soil pollution. It, directly and indirectly, affects our lives. Excessive use of chemicals like pesticides and fertilisers for agricultural production, mining, improper waste disposal, and acid rain are some of the major causes of soil pollution. As a result of soil pollution, the soil loses its fertility and deteriorates natural vegetation. It adversely affects the organisms residing in the soil, degrades agricultural productivity, and even results in famine.

Noise pollution is caused by the excessive amounts of noise in our environment. Noise pollution is generally man-made, and it badly affects the natural balance of our ecosystem. Any sound which is over 85 decibels is harmful to human health. Due to globalisation and industrialisation, the level of noise pollution in our environment has increased drastically. Some of the main contributors to noise pollution are machinery used in industries, noise emitted by vehicles, sounds produced during construction work, noise during public festivals and social events, etc. Noise pollution has become a major issue for many developed and developing nations. As a consequence, people are facing sleeping disorders, hearing loss, hypertension, stress-related illnesses, etc.

Thermal pollution is caused by the sudden increase or decrease of the temperature of a natural body of water. Industrial machinery and power plants are the major contributors to thermal pollution. For the process of cooling machinery, water from nature is collected and used. But after this mechanism, the temperature of the water gets altered. By pumping back the water, the thermal balance of the natural source of water becomes affected and results in thermal pollution. It changes the oxygen level and destroys ecosystems.

The pollution caused by the release of radioactive substances into the environment during nuclear explosions, nuclear weapon production and decommissioning, mining of radioactive ores, and disposal of radioactive wastes are called radioactive pollution.

All this pollution has had a great impact on our lives. Many environmental catastrophes like global warming, acid rain, famine, drought, earthquakes, etc., are the returns given to us by earth for our greed. If we continue to pollute, then be ready to face the end.

Environmental pollution is one of the most troubling global issues. It is caused by the harmful effect of pollutants that are discharged into the environment by the irrational actions of human beings. The actions of such pollutants badly affect our environment and transform it into an unhealthy place to live. Environmental pollution can be stated as the unfavourable alteration of our environment with severe long term consequences. Improper waste management, exploitation of natural resources, and urban-industrial technological revolutions are considered some of the main causes for environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution is a global issue, and it is not at all a new term to any of us. The phenomenon has been here for many decades, but the solution still remains obscure. The wheel of time is spinning over human beings and nature. Nature will always find its way to survive, and it’s our only hope. Like the words of John James Audubon, “A true conservationist is a man who knows that his fathers do not give the world, but borrowed from his children”, let’s realise that the conservation of our environment is never a choice but an urgency for our future.

The aftereffects of environmental pollution are intolerable. It results in the loss of vegetation, irregular functioning of the ecosystem, loss of biodiversity, and poses a threat to human life. Any pollution that brings undesirable changes to the environment can be listed as environmental pollution. The types of pollution vary depending on the nature and the component on which the pollutant marks its effect.

Nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide, mercury, CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon), particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds are some of the harmful pollutants that cause environmental pollution.

  • “Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented.” – Barry Commoner.
  • “Sooner or later, we will have to recognise that the Earth has rights, too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans.” – Evo Morales.
  • “Where the quality of life goes down for the environment, the quality of life goes down for humans.” – George Holland.
  • “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” – Mahatma Gandhi.
  • “The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved.” – Richard Rogers.
  • “Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans.” – Jacques Yves Cousteau.
  • “Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be dispersed because we’ve been ignorant of their value.” – R. Buckminster Fuller.
  • “Pollution is a serious one: water pollution, air pollution, and then solid hazardous waste pollution. And then, beyond that, we also have the resources issue. Not just water resources but other natural resources, the mining resources being consumed, and the destruction of our ecosystem.” – Ma Jun.
  • “We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.” – Aldo Leopold.
  • “The ecological crisis is doing what no other crisis in history has ever done — challenging us to a realisation of a new humanity.” – Jean Houston.

What is environmental pollution, and what are the main pollutants?

Environmental pollution can be stated as the unfavourable alteration of our environment with severe long term consequences. It is caused by the harmful effect of pollutants that are discharged into the environment by the irrational actions of human beings. Any pollution that brings undesirable changes to the environment can be listed as environmental pollution. Nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide, mercury, CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon), particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds are some of the harmful pollutants that cause environmental pollution.

The contamination of soil due to the presence of chemicals or other harmful particles is called soil pollution. It, directly and indirectly, affects our lives. 1. Air Pollution

Talking About the Environment - man on mountain

Gina: Wow! It’s such a beautiful day! The sky is so blue.

Oli: I guess… It’s been nice all summer, so I don’t notice it as much. Maybe I’m getting spoiled!

G: I wasn’t expecting it to be like this. My Dad came here a few years ago and he said the air quality was really bad.

O: He’s not wrong. It used to be terrible. In summer, you’d often get thick smog covering the whole city, but it’s improved greatly in the last decade or so.

G: What changed?

O: I think it was driven by people’s attitudes. Ten years ago, no one was interested in environmental issues, but nowadays there’s much more awareness of things like air quality and how it can affect your health.

G: Sure, but that can’t be the only reason.

O: Well, no. The local government also brought in new laws and regulations. They introduced restrictions on driving in the city centre, made it illegal to use wood or coal fires for heating, and moved a lot of heavy industry away from the city. Plus, there are much tighter regulations nationally, too, like with car emissions: compared to even ten years ago, cars are much cleaner.

G: It’s impressive that they could make such a big change in a short time. Ten years isn’t long for these things.

O: True, but there’s still more to do. It can still get hazy in winter. They’re investing in public transport infrastructure, though, so I think it’ll carry on getting better.

In your hometown, is the air quality good, or do you have problems? Can you remember any of the phrases you heard in the dialogue to talk about air pollution? You heard:

  • The air quality was really bad.
  • You’d often get thick smog covering the whole city.
  • It can still get hazy in winter.

‘Air quality’ is a useful phrase for this topic. You can use it with different adjectives. For example:

  • The air quality is terrible.
  • The air quality is better than it was ten years ago.
  • The air quality is great for such a large city.

Learn more about adjectives in this Oxford Online English lesson on How to Use Adjectives .

‘Smog’ is a thick fog, caused by air pollution. If the air is a little dirty, so that you can’t see far, you might describe it as ‘hazy.’ Here’s a question: what do you think the government, companies or individuals can do to minimise air pollution? In the dialogue, you heard several possible solutions, such as:

  • The government brought in new laws and regulations.
  • They introduced restrictions on driving in the city centre.
  • They made it illegal to use wood or coal fires for heating.
  • They moved a lot of heavy industry away from the city.

‘Restrictions on driving’ could mean different things. For example, London has a congestion charge, meaning that drivers have to pay every time they enter the city centre. Some cities have banned vehicles with diesel engines, while others have created large pedestrian zones. Let’s practise! Here are three questions for you.

  • What’s the air quality like in your city?
  • What is your local or national government doing to improve air quality where you live?
  • What do you think is the best way to reduce air pollution?

Pause the video, think about your answers, and write them down or say them out loud. If you need more help, review the dialogue and this section. There are many words and phrases you can use. Ready? Let’s move on to our next point on talking about the environment.

2. Waste and Recycling

Talking About the Environment - recycle bin

Oli: Whoa! What are you doing?

Gina: What do you mean?

O: You can’t throw that in there!

G: Why not? It’s garbage.

O: Yeah, but it’s recyclable. It goes in the blue bin.

G: You mean, I have to put all recyclable stuff in the blue bin?

O: Not all. Plastics go in the blue bin, paper and card in the brown bin, and bio-waste in the green one.

G: ‘Bio-waste?’

O: You know, food waste and stuff like that.

G: Is that it?

O: The black bucket is for glass and tins. Do you not recycle?

G: In my hometown you can recycle a few things, like glass, but we don’t sort our garbage like this. It seems very complicated!

O: Then what, all of your rubbish just goes into landfill?

G: I guess… I’ve never thought about it. I just throw stuff away and forget about it.

O: It was the same here not so long ago, but now we’ve got used to sorting our rubbish and recycling as much as possible. It’s much more environmentally friendly.

G: I’m sure you’re right.

In the dialogue, we mentioned several different types of garbage. Quick question: can you remember three of them? By the way, the words ‘garbage’, ‘rubbish’ and ‘trash’ all have a similar meaning: they all mean the stuff which you throw away. If there is recycling in your city, you might need to sort your recyclable garbage, meaning you put different things in different bins. Generally, you can sort garbage into recyclables and non-recyclables. Recyclable garbage might include glass, tins, cans, paper, card, plastic, and bio-waste. Waste which is not recycled is often sent to landfill. This means the waste is buried in a big hole in the ground.

Sometimes, waste might end up in a dump. A dump is like a landfill, but it isn’t buried, so it’s just a big pile of garbage on the ground somewhere. Now it’s time for you to practise. Here are another three questions for you:

  • In your city, do you sort your garbage? If so, how?
  • What waste is commonly recycled in your country?
  • What happens to non-recyclable waste?

As before, pause the video and make your answers. Practise them a few times before you continue. Let’s look at our next topic on talking about the environment.

3. Talking About Food Safety and Farming

Talking About the Environment - farming

Gina: That book looks interesting. What’s it about?

Oli: This? It’s by a Japanese writer. It’s about farming and how we could make farming more sustainable.

G: OK… You’re a graphic designer. Why are you reading about farming?

O: It’s interesting! Farming produces the food you eat. It’s not like it doesn’t affect you.

G: What’s his idea?

O: He’s basically saying that modern farming methods can produce more in the short term, but in the long term they degrade the land and end up costing more.

O: One thing he talks about is pesticide use. If farmers use pesticides and herbicides, then they create an ecosystem which depends on those artificial products, which are often harmful for the environment. If you grow food organically, using more traditional farming methods, you can grow the same amount of food without using pesticides at all.

G: So he thinks we should go back to mediaeval farming or something?

O: Not exactly. I can see you’re sceptical , but I think you should read it, too. It’s not just theory, by the way. He’s used his ideas to set up several farms in different countries, and they work just like he says.

G: Hmm… I have been thinking about these things, actually, especially with meat. I saw a documentary about livestock farming and slaughterhouses, and it was shocking. I guess most people just buy the food and don’t think about where it comes from.

O: Right, so you’ll definitely like this book, too. You can borrow it once I’ve finished.

G: What’s it called?

O: “ The One-Straw Revolution .”

Do you think about where your food comes from, and how it’s produced? Modern farming is heavily mechanised—it depends heavily on machinery, automation, as well as chemical products like herbicides and pesticides. Herbicides kill weeds, meaning unwanted plants. Pesticides kill insects and small animals which might try to eat food crops.

Farming needs to be sustainable. ‘Sustainable’ means that something can continue. For example, if you earn $1000 a month and spend $2000, that isn’t sustainable. Maybe you can do that for a few months, but you can’t do it long term. In the same way, some farming methods are unsustainable. In this case, farming can degrade the land, meaning that, over time, it becomes more and more difficult to grow anything.

On the other hand, some farming is organic. ‘Organic’ means that food is grown without using any artificial chemical products. Of course, farming isn’t just about growing plants. There is also ‘livestock farming’: raising animals for meat, eggs or milk. Animals which are raised to provide meat are generally killed in a slaughterhouse.

What about in your country? Think about these questions:

  • Are farms usually bigger and more mechanised, or are they mostly smaller, using more traditional methods?

4. Climate Change

Talking About the Environment - ice cliff

Oli: Do people ever talk about global warming in your country?

Gina: For sure! It’s a big issue. We have a long coastline, and a lot of the land is close to sea level, so the dangers feel very real.

O: I feel like people often don’t pay attention to these things until it’s too late.

G: It’s already happening, though. There’s more flooding than there used to be, and older people, like my grandparents for example, all say that summers have got much hotter than they were 50 years ago.

O: That’s kind of scary. I read somewhere that even if we cut carbon emissions to zero, global warming would continue for at least fifty years, because of the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere.

G: The big topic for us is sea levels. If the ice caps melt, they say sea levels will rise by two or three metres. For some countries, that wouldn’t be a big deal, but we’d lose almost half of our land.

O: I don’t think any country will be immune from the problems if it continues. So, do you think there’s a solution? It doesn’t look optimistic from what I’ve heard.

G: I mean, people talk about things like carbon taxes and reforestation programs, which are helpful, but I don’t think there’ll be any real progress until there’s true international cooperation. So far, I don’t see any sign of that.

In the dialogue, you heard us talking about climate change. Can you remember climate change vocabulary and phrases we used to describe the causes and effects of climate change?

By the way, you can use the terms ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’. People use them with the same meaning. Climate change is caused by increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The main greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide, or CO2. Sometimes, instead of talking about carbon dioxide or CO2, people will just refer to ‘carbon’. You can hear things like: ‘We need to cut carbon emissions significantly.’ Climate change may lead to several problems, particularly flooding caused by rising sea levels. Although there aren’t clear solutions, some people suggest that carbon taxes or reforestation programs are good ways to combat climate change. A ‘carbon tax’ means that companies would have to pay the government if their operations released CO2 into the atmosphere.

Let’s see: can you use some of this language? Here are three questions for you.

  • Are you worried about global warming? Why or why not?
  • How would your country be affected if sea levels rose significantly?
  • What do you think is the best way to deal with climate change?

Pause the video and make your answers now! How was that? There’s a lot of language in this lesson, so don’t forget to review any sections that were difficult for you.

Hopefully that helped you feel more confident talking about the environment in English. Thanks for watching!

Speech on World Environment Day for Students and Children

Short speech on world environment day.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 globally. It is a day on which we spread awareness about the environment and the need to conserve it. Moreover, it is essential to advocate for a greener environment and conservation of nature. It is quite simple as when we conserve the environment today, the future generations will be able to lead a healthier life. We cannot be so selfish and use up all the resources for ourselves. World Environment Day is the perfect opportunity to make people aware of the issues we are facing and how one can contribute to saving it. Thus, it is quite important in its own way.

speech on world environment day

Importance of World Environment Day

World Environment Day reminds us to strengthen the world and ensure that nature is preserved at all costs. It throws light on the causes which are causing serious harm to our environment. For instance, industries and factories are contributing largely to pollution. They are deteriorating the quality of air that we breathe and the water we consume.

Thus, this day serves as an eye-opener for many citizens who aren’t aware of all this. In other words, it spreads awareness amongst the common people which the environment is facing right now. Moreover, it also encourages the public from different societies and communities to take active participation in celebrating the day.

Further, it also urges them to become active agents in developing environmental safety methods. Not just that, it also encourages everyone to keep their nearby surroundings safe and clean so that everyone can have a cleaner, greener and more prosperous future.

Every Little Deed Matters

On the occasion of World Environment Day, it is essential for all to realize that every little deed matters when it comes to saving the environment. No matter how small a step you are taking to lead a greener lifestyle, it does make a difference. Because, if everyone starts doing little deeds one by one, it will turn into something big. As the saying goes every drop makes an ocean, it is true in this case as well.

As there are a lot of diseases that originate due to unhygienic living conditions and dirty water, we must begin there. For instance, when water remains stagnant or unclean for long, various insects and bacteria start growing there. This results in deadly diseases like Malaria, Dengue and more. So, we must make sure to cover the tanks, pots, coolers and more which may become a breeding ground for such insects and diseases.

Similarly, we have to talk about the issues of garbage disposal. Especially in our country, people litter around everywhere. It is essential to firstly dispose of waste properly and also segregate the wet and dry waste accordingly.

These little deeds will make you realize how wholesome your life will become. It is not always about the money and luxury, the little fulfilling things and change in habits can also prove to be very effective.

Thus, we have the World Environment Day which serves as a reminder to protect the environment at all costs. All the resources of nature from forests to oceans and soil to air, we must conserve.

To sum it up, always remember that the gifts and blessings which nature endows on us are priceless. It is rather essential to conserve them all for a better future and life for all. Always remember that small steps will help you reach your goal.

Essay on Environmental Protection

Environmental protection is improving, defending, and maintaining the quality of the environment. The main methods of environmental protection are recycling, reusing, and reducing; however, some other methods such as Green Energy production, green transportation development, and eco-friendly industrialization also exist. Not only residents but also businesses and industries should play their basic roles to improve the environment.

The History of Environmental Protection

Humankind has always been concerned about the environment. The ancient Greeks were the first to develop environmental philosophy, and they were followed by other major civilizations such as India and China. In more recent times, the concern for the environment has increased because of growing awareness of the ecological crisis. The Club of Rome, a think tank, was among the first to warn the world about the dangers of overpopulation and pollution in its report "The Limits to Growth" (1972).

In the early days of environmentalism, people thought that the best way to protect nature was to set aside areas where humans would not disturb the environment. This approach, which is known as preservation, was given a major boost in the United States with the establishment of the National Park Service in 1916.

The modern environmental movement began in the 1960s when concerns about the negative impact of humans on the environment began to increase. In response to these concerns, governments around the world began to pass legislation to protect the environment. In the United States, for example, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in 1970.

The Principles of Environmental Protection

There are three fundamental principles of environmental protection:

The precautionary principle: This principle states that if an activity has the potential to cause harm to the environment, then steps should be taken to prevent that harm even if there is no clear evidence that the activity is damaging.

The polluter pays principle: This states that the party responsible for causing pollution should be held responsible for cleaning it up.

The public right to know the principle: This principle states that the public has a right to know about any potential threats to the environment and what is being done to address them.

The goals of Environmental Protection

There are three main goals of environmental protection:

To protect human health: This is the most important goal of environmental protection because humans cannot survive without a healthy environment.

To protect ecosystems: Ecosystems are the foundation of life on Earth, and they provide many benefits to humans, such as clean air and water, food, and fiber.

To promote sustainable development: Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Environmental protection is a practice that aims to protect the natural environment from the hands of individuals, organizations, and governments. It is the need of the hour because the Earth's environment is deteriorating every day, and the reasons are human beings. They are mishandling the Earth's environment to fulfill their needs. If it goes like this, then it is difficult to say that the future generation will have a safer environment to live in. Through this essay, you will learn the importance of environmental protection.

A Long Essay on Environmental Protection

It is imperative to protect our natural environment from deteriorating, and the only way to do that is through environmental protection. This process should be adopted by every country as soon as possible before it is too late. The objective of this process is to conserve all the natural resources and try to repair some parts of the environment that are possible to get repaired. The biophysical environment is getting degraded permanently because of overconsumption, population growth, and the rapid development of technology. This can be stopped if the government plan strategies to restrict these activities to perform in a controlled way. This environmental protection essay can be a great help for the students to understand the environment they are living in.

Voluntary Environmental Agreements

Voluntary environmental agreements are getting popular in most industrial countries. Through this free essay on environmental protection, one will learn more about this type of agreement. These agreements provide the companies with a platform where they are recognized if they are moving beyond the minimum regulatory standards for protecting the environment. These agreements support the development of one of the best environmental practices. For example, the India Environment Improvement Trust (EIT) has been working in this environment field since the year 1998. Through this environmental protection essay, one is getting so much to learn.

Ecosystems Approach

An ecosystem approach to environmental protection aims to consider the complex interrelationships of the ecosystem as a whole to the process of decision making rather than just focusing on specific issues and challenges. The environmental protection essay writing will give a more precise overview of this approach. The ecosystems approach aims to support the better transferring of information, develop strategies that can resolve conflicts, and improve regional conservation. This approach has played a major role in protecting the environment. This approach also says that religions also play an important role in the conservation of the environment.

International Environmental Agreements

In the present scenario, many of the Earth's natural resources have become vulnerable because of humans and their carelessness towards the environment across different countries. As a result of this, many countries and their governments have come into different agreements to reduce the human impact on the natural environment and protect it from getting deterioration. Through this environmental protection essay in English, one will get a much clearer view on this matter particularly.

The agreements made between different governments of various countries are known as International Environmental Agreements. This agreement includes factors such as climate, oceans, rivers, and air pollution. These agreements are sometimes legally bound, and in case they are not followed, it may lead to some legal implications. These agreements have a long history with some multinational agreements that were made in the year 1910 in Europe, America, and Africa. Some of the most well-known international agreements are the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Through this environmental protection essay, it is clear that governments are taking steps to solve the environmental issue, but it is not enough.

A Short Paragraph on Environmental Protection in English

Earth is a beautiful place to live in, with the most favorable environmental conditions for living beings. But we humans are making it vulnerable and are destroying our own homes with activities that are causing pollution at an increased rate. In this protecting the environment essay, 200 words will be explained properly on how to save the environment.

Environmental protection has become the need of the hour as it is getting destroyed each day. So, governments are making policies and are coming into agreements with other countries to come up with strategies that can protect the environment. Some companies also have the same aim of protecting the environment from the activities of humans.

In this short article on environmental protection, it is clear that if sudden steps are not taken then, our future generation will have to live in a polluted environment that is conserved very conserve difficult. Environmental protection is the key to a safe and secure future with a beautiful environment to live in.

With pollution increasing each year and causing deterioration of the natural environment, it has become necessary to take steps to protect the natural environment. As we know that the reason for all these problems is humans, governments should make policies to restrict their activities that are causing harm to the environment. If they are not stopped urgently, then the world might see some catastrophic destruction in the coming years. For example, climate change has been a huge problem, and this is one of the causes of increased pollution. A secured future depends on the environment as a whole.

Speech on Conservation of Environment

The 5th of June has been designated as World Environment Day since 1947 to do something for the environment and to care for the earth. We celebrate Earth Day to learn about methods to save our planet. Here are some sample speeches on conservation of environment.

  • 10- Line Speech on Conservation of Environment

A green and clean environment is essential for a pleasant and healthy existence.

We must stop using poly and plastic bags to conserve the environment and instead choose eco-friendly alternatives.

By accepting and adopting a basic lifestyle, we may safeguard our environment for the next generation in various ways.

We may avoid using petroleum by taking public transportation daily, and saving energy will assist in saving a significant amount of coal and water.

Promoting digital technologies will result in fewer papers from natural resources such as wood.

We should save clean water by adjusting our regular habits, such as using less water when showering, cooking, and cleaning.

Governments must take concrete action to address the overexploitation of timber, water, and other natural resources.

A safe environment is critical to the continued existence of life on Earth.

The continued use of natural resources may result in the most significant imbalance in the atmosphere.

As inhabitants of this earth, we must work together to do their part to preserve the environment.

Short Speech on Conservation of Environment

Long speech on conservation of environment.

Speech on Conservation of Environment

We are all aware of how vital the environment is to us. In other words, we cannot disregard the need for environmental protection. People are accountable for hurting the environment to improve their livelihood. The atmosphere is confronting numerous destructions at the time of development. It becomes critical to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. As a result, you must be aware of environmental protection. Environmental contamination is caused by deforestation, population increase, and illiteracy.

Human Activity and Environment

Human activity has a negative impact on the environment in numerous ways. These include issues with pollution, population growth, waste management, climate change, global warming, and the greenhouse effect, among others. The main factor endangering our ecosystem is the presence of dangerous gases in the air.

Automobile usage that is out of control has escalated its impacts, which releases dangerous gases like carbon monoxide. Electronic equipment like refrigerators and air conditioners also contaminate the air by releasing dangerous chemicals. The many effects of these gases are contributing to both air pollution and global warming.

Humans are the only ones who are accountable for environmental devastation as a result of their activities. As a result, no one other than individuals can contribute to environmental protection. We must make numerous efforts, such as avoiding damaging products, using renewable resources, avoiding plastic bags, taking public transportation, etc. These activities will aid in the preservation of the environment.

Environmental contamination is one of the most serious issues confronting our modern world. However, there has been significant technological advancement in recent years, which is also detrimental and harmful to the environment. We can improve the planet by taking modest steps like planting trees. To save our environment, we must all work together to support it.

Need to save the environment

We are all aware of Earth's deteriorating quality of life, but we must start seeing the signs. The severe weather proves that people need to save and secure their assets now more than ever. As we can see, natural catastrophes and calamities are becoming more common, and people have died due to these calamities. The melting glacier is another alarming reason we must protect our environment.

Furthermore, increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is proven hazardous. We shall be in a good situation if we take immediate action. It is always said that by conserving our environment, we rescue humanity. The earth has endured for many years and will continue to do so; only society is at peril, so we must begin today.

Ways to save the Environment

Recycle | To safeguard the environment, we must begin with proper trash disposal. We need to start with recycling and proper garbage disposal to accomplish this. Along with reducing coal usage, renewable energy sources such as solar and hydropower must be increased. It allows us to live a more environmentally friendly and healthy lifestyle.

Water Conservation | On a city scale, we can see that they must plan based on available water supplies. This can aid in the conservation of water resources. When feasible, avoid using hot water and instead use cold water. Furthermore, the farmer employs organic fertiliser on their land instead of insecticides.

Air Pollution | Along with reducing air pollution at any cost. Everyone should avoid using personal vehicles. Reduce global warming by taking public transportation and not wasting electricity. When not in use, turn off the lights and fans. Make sure to utilise a recycled product to avoid creating extra waste.

Plastics and Plantation | Avoid using plastic bags in favour of reusable bags, and most importantly, plant as many trees as possible. When you plant a tree, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere drops, improving air quality. Planting trees is just as vital as preventing deforestation, so discourage it.

Initiatives to be Taken

Government must enact stringent regulations for businesses that release toxic waste in order to handle waste properly. The purpose of the awareness campaigns should be to motivate people to use public transportation as frequently as feasible. Additionally, everyone must plant trees. The less private vehicle use, the fewer dangerous gas emissions are produced, and the more fuel is conserved.

Every year, we lose numerous plants that have the potential to clean the air, and it may begin with us. So, I request each of us to plant a tree every year, which helps reduce environmental pollution. Teach your parents, friends, and others to be environmentally responsible and to try to save the environment for a brighter future.

Environment Speech

We have provided various speech on environment for the students. All the environment speech are written using very simple and easy words. Speeches are written in wide range of words capacity according to the students need and requirement. You can select any of the speeches given below according to the time limit of 3 mins, 5 mins, etc.

Long and Short Speech on Environment in English

Environment speech 1.

Good Morning Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As today, the whole school has been assembled here for this beautiful occasion of World Environment Day that is celebrated on 5 th June every year; I would like to say a few words dedicated to the environment.

The environment is the surroundings made from five elements namely- Air, Water, Land, Sky, and Fire for us to flourish. It has been always said that only earth has the most favourable climatic conditions that help us to survive. We should be very grateful towards the earth that we have been provided with such a great environment that has everything in its nature which helps us to thrive. But day by day we are ruining it on the highest pitch that will eventually lead us towards our destruction.

We should understand the importance of the natural environment and try to deduce our non-eco-friendly activities and imperatively plant as many trees as we can and save water that is the two biggest issues.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Environment

Environment Speech 2

Hon’ble Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As this special assembly has been called for addressing the biggest issue these days regarding our environment, I would like to express my views on it. It has been recognized by the entire world that our environment is not as it was before. There are drastic changes that have been occurred since few years such as climatic changes, increment in natural disasters, etc all due to our changing lifestyle.

Our environment consists of 5 elements- Air, Water, Land, Fire and Sky and we have disturbed the process of entire ecosystem by cutting the vast amount of trees who contributes the most in balancing the environmental cycle, installment of large polluting industries, hunting/poaching of animals leading towards their endangerment, etc.

Out of this, the question arises is that what kind of future we want or what kind of future we are going to hand over to our next generations? Is this the kind of development we all have dreamt about? Walking with a mask on our faces, struggle in floods and earthquakes, destruction of animals who aren’t even aware of what’s happening around.

Now this is the high time where we need to recognize the importance of our natural environment and try every possible action towards saving it from saving water to planting trees.

Environment Speech 3

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers and my dear friends. The topic of my speech is Environment. Environment is the surrounding in which we live. It is the source of life. Our whole life is dependent to the environment. It directs our life and determines our proper growth and development.

Good or bad quality of social life depends on the quality of our natural environment. The need of human beings for food, water, shelter and other things depends on the environment around us. There is a balanced natural cycle exists between environment and lives of human beings, plants and animals. Human society is playing vital role in degenerating the natural environment which in turn negatively affects the lives on this planet. All the human actions in this modern world directly impact the whole ecosystem.

All the actions have brought a big change in this planet which resulted in many environmental problems. Increasing demand of technologies and industries in the modern time impacts the nature. The increasing invention of new technologies has changed the interaction of people with environment which permits more population to grow.

The modern technologies have immense power which has altered the whole environment in an unimagined way. The indiscriminate use of environment is the root of ecological crisis. Such continuous increase in the technologies and human behaviour are correspondingly very serious. Such amazing technologies have become the reason of economic growth in 20 th century however it had dramatically affected the natural resources.

Some of the environmental problems are rapid growth in world population, deteriorating natural resources, diminishing forests and wetlands, erosion of soil and coral reefs, depleting underground water, regular shortage of fresh drinking water, vanishing plants, salinization in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Middle East. Some other issues are loss of biodiversity, rapid extinction of some important animal species, collapse of fisheries, rising air and water pollution, rise in atmospheric temperature, thinning of ozone layer, spoiling rivers, seas and underground resources.

Even though science and technology have radically altered the terms of adaptation to the nature, we still need to adapt to the environment. Human society is embedded in an environment. We must not forget that the human being is first and foremost an animal, sharing living space with other animal species in an environment on which they are mutually dependent. It is our responsibility to save our environment and earth and make the possibility of healthy and happy life here.

Environment Speech 4

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech over Environment. To run the life in healthy happy way, we all need a healthy and natural environment. Continuously increasing human population adversely affects the forests. Human beings are cutting forests to a great extent for making their home to live securely however they do not think of the problems arises due to the lack of forests.

It completely disturbs the natural cycle between environment and life on the earth. Because of the over-population, the number of various chemical elements is increasing in the atmosphere which ultimately causes irregular rainfall and global warming. We cannot imagine the negative effects of global warming over the climate and lives of human beings and other living species.

According to the research it is found that the perennial snow mountains of the Tibet were totally covered by the thick snow in the past however those thick snows are getting very thin day by day over last few decades because of the global warming. Such condition is very dangerous situation and indication of end of life on earth which needs to be taken very seriously by all countries worldwide. It is very true that climate change goes very slow however slow continuous process is very dangerous.

Because of the regular changes in the environment physical structure of the human beings and other living species has been changed from generation to generation. Increasing human population needs more land for agricultural cultivation and living purpose which force them to cut more trees and forests so the deforestation has its own dangerous side effects.

Increasing level of industrialization has countless harmful effects on the atmosphere because of the poisonous chemical emissions and dangerous wastes drainage in the big water resources such as Yamuna, Ganga, and other rivers. The ever changing (negatively) environment is not the issue of only some countries or government; it is the issue of whole human fraternity because we all are the reason of this negatively declining environment so we all are responsible to save our natural environment for the healthy survival of life on the earth.

Protecting the atmosphere is the matter of high importance for all the present and future generations of mankind. The main purpose of my speech today over the environment is only to increase the public awareness among common people about the reasons of declining environment as well as need of healthy and natural environment for the life on earth. So, it is my humble request to all of you that please contribute to save your environment.

Environment Speech 5

Good morning to my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech on the Environment to increase awareness among public about the negatively changing environment. An environment is the natural surrounding which covers and protects us from the natural disasters.

However, our healthy and natural environment is getting worse day by day and taking the form of demon affecting everything from non-living to living beings. What we know is two types of environment called natural environment and built environment. The natural environment is one which exists naturally and the one for which man is responsible such as cities etc is called built environment. There are many natural and unnatural factors polluting the whole natural atmosphere.

Some of the natural factors like volcanoes, flood, etc are the reasons of declining environment. However, manmade reasons are more rampant caused due to the reckless and the caustic human nature are highly responsible for the environmental pollution. Self centred human activities are highly responsible for the destruction of the environment. Other environmental threats like forests degradation, global warming, pollution, etc are the reasons of environment degradation. Continuous increasing temperature of the earth surface in the atmosphere because of the many human made and natural means calls to the various natural calamities causing disturbance to a great extent to the healthy and common life of human and all other living beings.

Our natural environment has become hugely changed in the last few decades and has taken form of big and powerful demon affecting the lives of people every single moment. Nature has made everything to run in balance with the natural cycle however many factors causes environmental corrosion. The factors like population growth and economic advancement are considered as the major factors giving rise to many other secondary factors.

We must understand the importance of ecological balance and try our best to run it naturally in order to prevent the effects of environmental disasters and promote the existence of healthy environment. We should promote common public in our surroundings for the clean and green environment to prove the meaning of proverb like “We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment”.

Environment Speech 6

First of all I would like to say good morning to the Excellencies, respected teachers, and my dear friends. As we all know that we have gathered here to celebrate this auspicious occasion, I would like to speech over the environment in order to make you aware of our continuously declining environment so that we all together can be successful in saving our environment by taking some effective steps. As we know that we live on the planet of earth having different types of surroundings called environment within which we can eat healthy, breathe freshly, and live safely.

However, what happens to our lives if any means of natural or manmade causes of environment degradation takes place, we cannot imagine the extent of loss to the human and other living beings existence. The ecology balance and natural cycles has become disturbed which is very hard to bring back and give it a natural shape. However, there is a common saying that “prevention is better than cure”, so we never gets tired of trying our best to save the environment.

Physical environment on this planet provides all of us a favourable required condition and supports the existence and growth of various forms of life here. Natural or physical environment is provided by the nature however all forms of the living beings together constitute another environment called biological environment. Both of the environments are closely connected to each other and make a unique natural system for the life survival. If the biological environment gets disturbed, physical environment automatically gets disturbed and both hugely affect the human lives together.

Another environment which is completely depending on the human is socio-cultural environment made by the human beings. Whatever environment is, it must be healthy, safe and secure to continue the evergreen life on the earth in present and future.

We should realize our mistakes and concern about the environment in order to keep it clean, safe and secure for the healthy life. Many of the human activities like deforestation, industrialization, technological improvements and so many are leading our environment towards danger and keeping lives at risk by influencing the growth, development and survival of all organisms.

Various types of environmental pollution such as water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, etc are disturbing the ecosystem and causing variety of health hazards to the human beings and animals. Environmental pollution is damaging the ecosystem and destroying the delicate balance of the natural ecosystem. So, now-a-days environmental pollution is the matter of great concern and consideration for which we all together follow some effective steps and carry on until problems gets solved completely.

Freedom of speech and LGBT rights: Americans’ views of issues in Supreme Court case

a short speech on environment protection

A majority of Americans think business owners should be able to refuse to provide services in situations where providing them may “suggest support for beliefs about lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) issues” to which they have personal or religious objections, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

Pew Research Center conducted this analysis to provide insight into Americans’ views about a prominent issue currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. We surveyed 5,079 adults from March 27 to April 2, 2023. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the ATP’s methodology .

Here are the questions used for the report, along with responses, and its methodology .

In earlier surveys, the public has expressed positive views of the impact of legalization of same-sex marriage and broad support for policies aimed at preventing discrimination against transgender Americans.

A bar chart showing that 60% of Americans say business owners shouldn’t have to provide services if it may conflict with their LGBT beliefs.

But in a question reflecting the arguments in a pending Supreme Court case, 60% of Americans think business owners should not have to provide services if it might signal support for beliefs on LGBT issues that they oppose, according to the survey conducted in early April. Around four-in-ten (38%) say business owners should be required to provide services in these situations.

The Supreme Court case centers on a challenge to Colorado’s public accommodations law by website designer Lorie Smith, who says the law violates her right to freedom of speech by requiring her to design wedding websites for same-sex couples.

The oral arguments in the case highlighted the competing rights at issue. Smith’s attorney said her client’s complaint is based on the message being conveyed by her work, not the customers who may be affected. However, Colorado’s solicitor general said that by ruling in favor of Smith, the court would undermine the state’s accommodations law and open the door to discrimination because of a person’s race or religion, in addition to their sexual or gender identity.

The survey question does not ask whether business owners should have the right to discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people. Rather, it asks whether business owners who object to providing services that could suggest beliefs on LGBT issues – such as a “designer of wedding websites who has objections to same-sex marriage” – should be required to provide these services or be able to refuse to do so.

Views by party, religion

A bar chart that shows White evangelical Protestants most likely to say business owners should be able to refuse services that might conflict with their views on LGBT issues.

As with opinions on same-sex marriage and transgender issues, there is a wide partisan gap in views of whether business owners should be able to refuse to provide services if it conflicts with their views on LGBT issues. Republican and Republican-leaning independents overwhelmingly side with business owners who object to providing services in these situations (82% vs. 17%). By a smaller margin (59% to 40%), Democrats and Democratic leaners say business owners should have to provide services in these cases.

Opinions also differ by religious affiliation. For example, while 83% of White evangelical Protestants say business owners should be able to deny services in situations where it could conflict with their beliefs, just half of religiously unaffiliated adults say the same.
